I was wondering how well does an assassin do in a group (my friend plays a defiler) the rest of the group will be pickup players mostly. We will do dungeons mostly too. Just trying to find a class to play

They do great in groups as thier big hits are mostly positional (rear) so you need the mob focussed on someone other than you. I found a SK and Defiler duo that I play my lowbie assassin with and it makes a really nice trio. Everyone else we get in the group is just gravy.

It's possible to duo alright, but you will benefit a lot from a tank or somebody to take their attention so you can use your backstabs. With excellent chain armor, the assassin can actually tank pretty well, but holding aggro is a problem.

Thanks for the responeses. We will mostly be grouping and trying to hold a full group as much as possible. In rare cases when doing a quest or something for a reward if we cant get help we will be duoing this (but like i said it will be rare). In most situations we will most likely be having a full group so someone holding agro will be around hopefully

Yeah, I love my assasin in groups. Just don't put your hate transefer on the healers becuase it's more funny when put on casters who go down fast.

Assassins are IMO either the best or second best dps to have in a group, along with swashies. We both get hate transfers, which means we can dps more without pulling aggro than mages in most groups. We also have fast cast times, so we do good dps no matter how fast the mob dies.

Other dps classes have compensations in the raiding and solo'ing aspects of the game, but it sounds like grouping is most important to you.

You might want to go with swashie though, if you'll be duoing sometimes. Assassins and swashies do similiar group dps, but swashies will duo much better than an assassin would. They don't lose as much dps when standing toe to toe with a mob, and they actually get mitigation buffs and taunts IIRC.

Edit: I assumed you wanted to play dps, right? I guess I should also mention a ranger also has the advantage of fast cast timers and a passive deaggro too, but one big downside as you level will be the cost of arrows. Rangers go through a lot of them. One other thing you might want to consider is as an assassin and defiler, you'll both be freeport based. It won't really matter much after 20 since you'll be traveling to the same zones anyway, but it will make the first few levels a bit more convenient.

I'd probably go swashie, but that's all stuff to consider.

Message Edited by whytakemine on 01-16-2007 05:24 PM

For 4-6 person groups, I'd say assassins are the single best DPS hands down, but for everything else go swashy.
