<DIV>I apologize if this is something that has already been covered.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Today, my friend wanted to create a new character, and wanted me to make one with him. So, I decided that I would roll an Assassin, after seeing my brother play it a lot, it looked like fun. Upon reaching level 3, I think it was, I got the first ranged combat art...Double Blast. The description was as follows:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Deals 4-7 Ranged Damage to target.</DIV> <DIV> <DIV>Deals 4-7 Ranged Damage to target.</DIV> <DIV>If weapon equipped in ranged.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The last line confused me a bit. My primary alt, so to speak, is a swashbuckler, and his Frigid Throw combat art specifies that is has to be a throwing weapon in ranged. So, my curiousity arose when I saw it just said "weapon". So, I bought a cheap throwing dagger sheath, and some cheap throwing daggers, equipped them, and tested if Double Blast still worked... It did.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>(Amusingly, the animation showed me pulling on a nonexistant bow with a dagger in my hand rather than an arrow, then it showed an arrow fly towards the mob and then an arrow sticking out of the mob, then I continued to throw daggers normally.)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Curious whether this were something weird, like a bug or something, that only applied to that combat art, I logged onto my brother's assassin to check all his combat arts. Faltering Blast, Assassin's Shot, and Spitting Viper all say "If weapon equipped in ranged." I didn't take the time to test all three of those, but it seems that all the Assassin's ranged combat arts can be performed with throwing weapons as well as bows.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Judging by the animation, though, I'm not 100% sure this is how it is supposed to be. On the other hand, it seems pretty odd that, if it were a bug or a mistake or something, it'd be on all of the Assassin's ranged combat arts.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Of course, even with the option to use throwing daggers, I've seen what my brother can do with a good longbow, and remain a bit doubtful that many Assassin's would use throwing daggers anyways.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Once again, I apologize if this is a topic that has been covered already. Thank you for your time and insight. =)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Edit: After a little bit of extra research, I discovered that the Dirge's one ranged combat art requires a "ranged weapon", while the Troubadour's requires a bow.</DIV></DIV><p>Message Edited by Xaile on <span class=date_text>10-17-2006</span> <span class=time_text>08:42 AM</span>

I think it is really just a matter of class flavour.  Assassins also have a kind of demi-identity as ninja's and thus we have to be able to use shirukins <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />The animations are a bit strange, but thats most likely laziness on SOE's part.  I've had my assassin for a year now and it has always been this way, rangers use bows and assassins are proficient in the use of all sharp objects.<div></div>

<div></div><div></div><div></div>They used to require bows to work.  I remember getting this really great pouch for throwing knives(for the level), filling up on throwing knives, and clicking on one of the ranged attacks and it wouldn't work.  That was two or thee monthes after the launch of eq2 though, so I maybe remembering wrong, but I do quite distinctly remember not being able to use that sheath I got with my ranged attacks.<p>Message Edited by Neribus on <span class=date_text>10-18-2006</span> <span class=time_text>09:01 AM</span>

<DIV>I really can't see that being much of an alternative at the highest levels either. Bow has a much greater ranger than thrown weapons and even though good bows are somewhat scarce a good pouch is [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] near non-existant, especially in the fabled range wherei think there are two, one of which is off a contested and the other from tarinax. somebdy correct me if i'm wrong there.</DIV>

<div></div>Yeah, its kinda sad.  You know whats worse though?  The fact there are like double or triple the number of two-handed swords then bows and throwing weapons.  Considering that so many AAs require something or nothing in the off hand, why the two-handed swords?!?!!?Edit: Fabled t7 bows have a range of 25 or 35 meters,  the Membranous Spine sheath(throwing) has a range of 25, and the Combine War Satchel(throwing) has a range of 35 meters.   So it depends on whether or not you can get the combine war satchel, and if you had a 35 meter bow, if you will be downgraded in range.<div></div><p>Message Edited by Neribus on <span class=date_text>10-18-2006</span> <span class=time_text>11:13 AM</span>
