I just recently started this game with a friend of mine and his roomate. My friend's roomate is a coercer (or illustionist, I forget which) and he's a Brigand and I want a scout class but the dirge/troub doesn't interest me. Basically we'll be grouping pretty much (with me mentoring at the time as I get much more playtime than both of them combined) so what would be better for our little band of heroes? (We're freeport so the Swashbuckler and ranger are out of the question of course)

Brigands still do plenty of dps and a skilled/geared brigand can do equal dps in later levels, they have only one stealth attack so you do not have to worry about getting knocked out for the most part. Brigands also have many more stuns then assassins and massive defensive debuffs. ~The brigands offensive stance is basically the same as an assassins (melee %chance to proc for a certain amount of damage along with an increase to offensive skills, ie. slash/pierce). ~The assassin defensive stance increases agi/defence/parry while the brigands increases defence/parry/mit. Brigands and assassin both have another main self buff, assassin is agi/dps while brigand is str/mit. ~As brigands get all the mit buffs they also get a taunt so with the lack of stealth attacks and with the taunt a brigand can makeshift tank. Assassins get a hate transfer which greatly helps the tank hold agro in group situations.hope this helps you make your decision, either way both are fun classes and you will enjoy :smileywink:

Ratonga is more assassin-ish in my opinion. So play an assassin if you want it from an RP prespective. Rats are sneaky, and devious like an assassin.

But, if you want it from a class perspective, I think a brigand is best at lower lvls because they can just tear through mobs because their reuse timers aren't that long. So they are great for chain pulling and grinding xp type situations. Brigands are also great because they can debuff a mob to basically nothing.

Assassins are great because they can do more dmg then any other melee class in game at the moment. A very positional class, but its not a problem if you have a good tank .

They are both great classes, its a win picking either class.

If you like raiding :Brigand. They do about -100 to -300 dps below assassin on single target. They can out dps us on stun, fear or heavy aoe. But they can raise the DPS of your raid by a hellofalot. Basically if I am a raid leader, I would take a brigand before an assassin. Also with amazing reflex, you don't really have to worry about aoe. Only problem that I see with a brigand is Aggro management. But with some Ignorant Bliss and good raid set up you will be fine. If you go Brigand, go with Double Attack AA, it should also boost your DPS by a bit, duel wield weapon sucks [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] and proc is a joke in t7. That being said. This is a game, and nothing is cooler than an assassin. For most of us that endure through T5(hmm like Warlock, briuser, zerker will out dps us easy) will know that we play the class cause we like the class. Nothing is more fun than droping like 20k damage in 10 sec. And stealthing around [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] to drop assassinate on solo mob in t5. And kiting [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] like Jack in t5 for 30 min to get a wood box, because we can. I also tried a Necro, coercer, pally, fury, wizard, and a defiler. Imho Assassin is the class that is the most challenging: Positioning, resist gear, CA order, aggro management, In-out to use range attack, making sure we are not backing into mobs. If you play an assassin, all the other class will put you to sleep, well may be except MT. If you like grouping:I would choose assassin, dispatch isn't that big of a deal in group. Since most of the junk will be dead pretty fast. Also I can't remeber any crazy aoe heroic mob at all, even that named in nest is cake. Also I can't remember how manytime I saved our group with killing blade, decapitate and finishblow, when the MT was dead.If you like soloing I would go swashy or brigand. Don't get me wrong, assassin can solo ok. But I seen Swashy kicking the crap out of 4-5 solo mobs in less than 20 sec. Personally I can solo anything blue heroic 3 up anywhere. White is about 50/50 depends on the type of mob. And yellow if I have room and time to kite.

Its best to have a variety of classes.

Go brigand. There are a handful of classes that are overpowered in this game and brigands receive honours out of those. They are a top class in every single aspect of gameplay whether you solo or raid etc, even pvp. They cannot go wrong in any form of the game even if you tried.
