So i was in HoS other day and got like 5 resists for Malignat mark (m2) in a row. So this got me wondering and hoping someone can answer this for me. What resist is associated with mark? not the dmg from agonizing pain but the resistability of malignant mark when you first apply it to a mob. I think its magic because when it gets resisted u dont wait the full 30 secs for recast. Thx in advance

Im pretty sure it says "you try to pierce xxxx with Malignant Mark, but xxxx resists". I'm aware that it doesn't require the whole recast if it's resisted, that just means it's being treated like a spell, but there's spells that do physical damage out there.

From what i have seen it appears to be based on magic. I put the splitpaw snare on my bar for that zone. Seems that that extra little magic debuff is enough to stop it from being resisted.

I'm pretty sure if it was based on magic, it wouldn't say you try to pierce a mob with it though.

[Sat Jul 29 18:51:52 2006] YOU try to pierce The Mutagenic Outcast with Malignant Mark, but The Mutagenic Outcast resists.

Pierce.

I'm fairly certian it's Mental resists... I play alot with my Troubador friend...... You should notice that when tanks have a hard time with taunts being resisted (also Mental based), you'll have the Mark line getting resisted as well... When ever the Troub uses thier debuff (snare/debuff - mental), it makes it much easier for both Taunts and Mark line to stick....

If you remember back to T6 with the Purple Piper, he is Mental resistant also... Troubs have a hard time landing spells, Tanks have a hard time landing taunts and Assassins have a hard time landing the Mark line...

Gwern - 70 Assassin / Parody - 67 Troubador - Kithicor

Message Edited by Aienaa on 08-02-2006 03:15 AM

I know its not peirce. Not sure about mental though. From looking at the parses of those two nameds in hos that resist the mark line alot they seem they are both resistent to mental and magic more than the average mob. Either way it doesnt take much debuffing to get past it. I find that when i debuff magic i have no problems landing the ca. But it is a quick fight and in a raid everyone is debuffing so somebody could be debuffing mental at the same time. I raided the zone last night so wont be able to test it out for till next week. If anyone raids the zone earlier see if you can test it and keep us posted.

I was pretty sure it was mental as well..back in T6 you couldnt land Exposing mark on mental immune mobs, but then again, it still doesnt make sense that it would say you try to pierce : /

From the single line of text, its impossible to ascertain. When Mark triggers, I believe it reads out as your _____ Mark hits XXX for XXX points of piercing damage, correct?

Once you put it on a mob, it can't be resisted again. The damage part has 0 chance to be resisted.

So im guessing applying the mark is based on the mobs avoidance?

I too would be interested in knowing exactly whats its resist check is against. The wording of Skratch's post does appear to point in the direction of pierce but as others have said they lean towards mental. Could the flavour text given when you apply it be wrong (or worse deliberately misleading).

Either way I know it was by far the best M2 choice I have made.

Sark on behalf of Slaene.
