If you pick an assassin you will automtically be hated by guards over in qeynos. The merchants will not sell you anything ect.But if you want to sneak around there you could stealth. If you planned to live there you would have to betray and become a ranger automatically.

Are rangers and assassins the same?

no, rangers are based around ranged (bow) combat arts while assassins are focused on melee.

And all rangers are automatically noobs at conception.

Question, seeing as I'm considering assassin as my fae class when the new race goes live. Are assassins good soloists, or do they typically need groups in order to do anything?

Timing, choice of stance, and equipment play a huge role in this. And I even find this to be somewhat fun.

This helps a bunch, I may have avoided the class otherwise. Good to know that solo is possible.

With the Assassin, I think it's more of a challenge to solo than it is for many other classes. This does make it interesting, but if you want a class that's easy to solo with (especially if you're new to the scout archetype), then I wouldn't suggest it.
Message Edited by BaruMonkey on 06-09-2006 01:25 PM

Soloing is doable for me, but harder than most of my alts. I do HUGE damage, but probably 75% of my attacks are stealthed or positional (or both).

Soloing also really depends on what you wish to kill. Mobs with no up or down arrows are nice as they grant an exp bonus upon killing and are fairly easy to kill in straight melee if you pull properly and use the correct poisons. Normal/Named mobs with a single ^ can be taken on if you learn the proper high dmg combos like the popular cheap shot+mask of night line+ assassinate/deathly blade line. It does take decent gear to be able to take out these types of mobs when they are yellow, but if you can get ahold of some rare crafted gear at later levels it is very easy to do. I live as a solo assassin and am currently lvl 62 hunting lvl 66 no arrow mobs and dont really worry much about dying and even look for the occasional named to take on so dont be afraid to get out there and try an assassin because they are very fun to play.

With the right poisons and weapons with procs you dont even need to worry about the stealth game for exp grinding as it is completly possible to pull with a high dmg bow art then just melee and frontal CA mobs for good exp. The stealth game brings in alot of extra dmg and when you learn it you can take on some strong mobs, but for regular soloing you can do just fine head on if you try.

Message Edited by Herculez on 06-09-2006 02:48 PM

Assassin is a great class, dont get me wrong I wouldnt change for the world. But if its a good solo'r you are looking for we are deffinately not the right choice. Rouges are far superior soloers with not nearly the amount of positional attacks and 10x's the stuns then we get.
