As an old school EQ1 player i played a necro, then for the sake of our raid guild i remade a monk (kunark time), cause necros besides summoning corpses were prety useless for raids in those old days (pets for some reason were banned from some raids ) .......monk was awesome i could dps but most importantly i could split and pull mobs like no other class.........after lots of raiding enjoyment spliting dificult mobs (NToV most fun....Eashen of the Sky fluries were quite a task to survive when spliting him) we got nerfed to hell and i quit eq1 right bout midway up the planes of power progression, since they were trying to break the whole split pull strategy......tried restarting another raid usefull char...did bard....awesome soloing but not a class for me.......then did a vah shir rogue...fun as heck....impossible to solo with ...so leveling would be a super hard task....right bout then i quit the game....So when i started playing EQ2 i decided i would defintively forgo the whole "can solo good" aspect and go for a one dimensional dmg dealing class....dmg dealers are allways usefull...and remembering how our old guild and raid leader from EQ1 could kick so much [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] with dps assassin was my choiceWas gona make an Iksar assassin, being i allways loved iksar weapon quest lines in eq1 (cause u actualy had to think and discover hidden iksar lore)...but i guess the whole curiosity of playing a "New" race mooved me to be a RatAllmost 1 and half years later i dont regret being an assassin over a brig(allmost went brig lol)/ranger/swashbucklerSo anyone else??? what mooved you to choose the path of Stealth and Ambush (back when we actually chose our path...i liked those quests) over others

In EQ1 I played 5 toons at the same time warrior, cleric, beastlord, druid and enchanter. When I started on EQ2 I wanted to deal the damage on raids so I made an assassin. Also, dreams of my ex wife helped to

I came from playing EQOA on the PS2. I had a barbarian tank and enjoyed it. Never did do too much grouping with rogues but I sure knew it when I did because I had to taunt like crazy. I kind of liked the allure of the Assassin, didnt care about soloability or anything like that (we can solo, its just a long grind). As far as the race I went with kerra over the rest because it was something new to me and the other classes I couldnt see myself playing. Havent tried any of the other scout classes but I'm thinking they'd be a let down after being an Assassin first.

There's a certain image that comes with assassin that I find particularly fun. Elements of espionage and intrigue come into play, so more than thinking in terms of the classic ninja I play my assassin like Norrath's equivalent to a secret agent (which of course assassination is a part of that). My assassin works more like a mercenary, taking contracts from the highest bidder and holding no political ties to anyone save for her closest allies and friends - yet even her own family has no idea what all she does in her line of work. It's a rather enjoyable RP element for me.

The damage-dealing aspect is but icing on the cake to me (nothing like tearing through in about 10 seconds what takes my shadowknight 1 minute to kill..bwahahaha!). I also enjoy the mix of various tactics and techniques to tweak the damage I do one way or another - there are a lot more nuances to playing an assassin than a shadowknight and those nuances to me are quite fun.

I started Eq2 beta as a Mystic. Playing a healing class puts me to sleep. I like to be up close and personal with what i'm going up against. I never did like standing far back shooting arrows or nuking spells. Assassin had a cool name to it, so yea i went with the class.

I'll qualify my following statements that my main is and always will be (unless nerfed into oblivion) a Necromancer.

Like the OP i played a Necromancer in EQ1. I had several alts one of which was a rogue, which I enjoyed playing but never got to a very high level. I mainly soloed due to working on a rotating shift, and the rogue was not a good soloing class.

When I got into EQ 2 beta, having followed the games progress for what seemed an eternity, one of the things that appealed to me the most was reports that most classes could solo effectively. I still made a Necromancer as a main, but enjoyed spending time playing my Assassin more and more. At first I struggled badly, having difficulty killing mobs my Necro would solo with ease. So I read the forums and asked advice of the more experienced Assassins I crossed paths with. As suspected it was my playstyle and lack of knowledge of how best to play the class that was the problem. Slowly buy sturely I upgraded my skills, armour and weapons, started making use of my positional and stealth attacks, and envemoing my blades (using poison).

A whole new world opened up to me of quick burst damage, stealth exploration, positioning for best advantage and of course good old evac.

I chose an Iksar as I started playing EQ 1 around the time of Ruins Of Kunark release, and found them to have the most in depth lore and a continent to themselves. The idea of playing a shunned class of a shunned race appealed to me, the ultimate loner.

So although I will never regret making my Necromancer my main, my Assassin will always be a close second. And considering how much I like my Necromancer, that is saying something.

Sark on behalf of Slaene, 55th level Iksar Assassin.

Message Edited by Sarkoris on 05-16-2006 10:25 AM

Since EQ2 was the first MMORPG I've ever started I read alot about the lore and the races back then before finally deciding that this character was how I wanted to roleplay and experience the game world. I have never regretted the decision or played an alt longer than 15 levels, although I rather dislike raiding and do not care about damage tiers or hardcore maximization

So, after over one year of soloing/small-grouping to level 70 I am waiting for more content to come...

Oh... before I forget... yes... killing stealthily and swiftly does have... appeal to it....
