You guys are getting me down. :smileytongue:

So many negative posts. I'm not saying they are unjustified but some positive posts would be great. I'm only level 25 and just came back to the game. I'll be leaving for 6 months right away so i'm killing my time for the next month playing EQ2. So what do you enjoy about assassins?

The Memory of what been an Asssassin realy felt like. all othere RPGs-MMO's I'v never complained about the way the Assassin's were made to be. They looked Acted & Killed like a True Assassin.

Here I feel like the class is some form of drunken scout master class that only has enough brains cells left to do one decient attack every 15mins.......

Our Advoidence is beyound shoking..........

Only truely possitive note about an assassin is we can sneak pass [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] for some quest's sad thing to counter that out is.....were hideing from KOS [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] we should be able to kill -.-

I miss the hayday (around your lvl) when you'd backstab and someone'd go "woah, who hit for x number?" nowadays its like I burn both Deathly Blade & Assassinate & no one even notices, Hell the mobs usually freakin parry (from behind mind you) one of em! I do enjoy insta invis... nice for when i'm HIDING from mobs instead of killing them since I can't solo worth [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] while my swashbuckler friend just shrugs those mobs off... Though I also enjoy dueling every 15 min since no one sees the assassinate coming... that poor monk thought he'd beat me :p

At level 48 i'm still not noticing this gimpiness assassins have, but perhaps i just lack perception - with some room i can easily arrow kite a double or triple arrow that isn't immune to poison, cast spells, or a brawler archetype, and in general i can endlessly kill mobs up to 3 levels higher consistently in melee, would need to burn all my 1 minute timer abilities and hope they don't miss/get parried to kill something 5-6 levels higher. The only real flaw i've noticed is that well, surprise surprise, assassins aren't the kings and queens of frontal assault, and when cheapshot only lands for two seconds on anything with an up arrow or heroic, well... i'm pretty sure you all know where that goes.

I constantly hear people whining and moaning about our class being gimped, but at level 45 -- I still haven't seen any gimpyness. With good armor, good weapons, and good quality spells, I am able to out-tank, out-DPS, and out-maneuver almost anybody my level in a group. I tell people I feel like a monk without the Kata, and I get to wear chainmail and do better DPS.

Too many people in this game compare their class to other classes, and if they are even slightly outpaced in one ability, they cry [Removed for Content] and start the rampage of whining. Don't listen to them, there is nothing inherently wrong with the Assassin class.

If there is -any- room to complain, it may be at the end-game raid level where we get killed in close combat, and our ranged abilities are lacking compared to rangers, etc. Deal with it.

Insta invis is fun. Our big hits are fun. And the style in which you get to play is very fun. I have to work for my dps, and so when those numbers are way up there its very satisfying. Despite being slightly gimped on some spells when compared with rangers, when people I know need DPS they come to me. I don't fair as well on some of the high raid mobs, as i'm only level 54 - but for any of the t5 raids or exp grouping I can always get a spot should I want it. We have our problems, but when things play out right we still have the ability to lay out some serious damage. That being said, it was better when I was in my 30s and 40s, and especially before they made colbalt gear the basic standard, along with ad3's/masters as being the minimum at what you should have. Other skills just scale better than ours, so when people are running around with all ad3's it creates a dps problem.

Lots of vailed negatives for a "stop getting me down" post!

I seem to be alone on these boards--I'm a 60 Assassin who thinks we're F'in great! Then again, I'm not a constantly raiding Assassin, I prefer to single group with close friends. I do agree with some of the negative things I've read from other 60's--there is work to do, but I don't believe we're broken (with respect to normal, non raiding encounters I guess).

Here's what I like:

1. I'm F'in Evil! I hate Qeynos noob leveling lands, and the cheery loop-de-doo of that place... I love goin through town hand having NPC's say "Look dis way an I'll clobber ya" ... hehe

2. DPS. WOW, I parse just about every night after logging off. In my groups I am consistantly #1 or #2 in DPS. My range is 250-800 DPS, averaging 400+ over all fights in a night, even since the poison nerf/Mark upgrade. The only ones that beat me are warlocks, wizzys, and rangers but I beat them as much as they beat me for the most part. Last night in a fight against one of the main named in the Roost I parsed 1043 DPS in a 30 second fight. It was a 30 second fight because I was there. In 28 seconds of fighting in that 30 Second fight I put out over 29000 damage. NO other class can do that. Granted all My big hits were up, but I *planned* it that way, holding back just a little before getting to her. In a raid against Darathor (for prismatics) I parsed over 500+ dps, highest in the raid. I went FULL heat resist gear, sacrificing stats, and did not die. 2.5 minute fight, I put out 92000+ damage. The next two highest were 50k range... And there were plenty of wizzy's warlocks and rangers there by the way. I consistantly do *more* than half the total damage to a mob in any group I'm in, and any fight that I'm workiong it on (sometimes I slack and my DPS drops to 180-250 range, hehe), with any group makeup I find. My char is a monster and all my friends think of me first when they're heading out for an adventure. I MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE IN ANY GROUP. Fun fun fun!!

3. BIG F'in hits!!! Leveling up is one thing. But I always liked to get new high hits--getting stronger! My highest now is 11901. I made it to 10'th on Guk even with the other 8 or 9 stupid sploited 80k numbers. I'm certain that number would have been top 100 world were it not for that also. I consistently hit for 6000-8000+ every 15 minutes and 3000 to 5000 a lot (finishing blow 45 seconds, deathly blade 3 min), and hit for 900-2500 beyond comprehension. I'm constantly having people say "who the F hit for 8720?!!" and someone else in the group snickers, "that was Nihyn again." Or saying on a raid "Just got a new High Hit!!" Someone asks, "How much?" I reply "11901" and they say "HOLY [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]!" (cause thier high is like 2000-something at best). GREAT feeling!

4. Roleplaying is fun with my Assassin... "what's in it for me?" when asked if I'd come somewhere... and "Im not evil, it's just my job..."-- I even have non-armor (fancy clothes) that I wear when not fighting... tons of fun on the roleplaying side.

5. Assassins have a great server wide chat channel -- /join guk.assassin ... I never really talk there (shy I guess) but I listen like mad to that channel... Great info.

And btw... from listening to the Assassin channel I've come to realize that what I do (above) is with junk (expletive not used for fear of being far-botted!) gear!

--

Nihyn Lihves
60 Assassin, Guk

I can only say so much, but I LOVE my Assassin. And poison is my new best friend! hehe. I just discovered Enchanted Lands (ya I am only lvl 33) but I love how I can go up to a mob 3 or 4 levels higher then me and beat him down. I have leveled 3 times in the past week with him in EL, mostly solo. The fights usually dont last any more then 30 seconds, thats a lot quicker then my Fury can take him down. And in groups (in Runnyeye) I am always asked to join. If my big moves are up (Assassins Blade and Ebon Blade right now) even Wizzies have a hard time keeping aggro from me, hehe. But these are the words from a somewhat newbie, take them for what they are worth. I have a 25 Fury, 20 Wizzie, and 33 Assassin, love them all, but always come back to my scout!

A quick story from last night illustrates what I like about my Assassin (Level 29 only at the moment):

Hunting Dragoon Sentries near the Gul Thex Citadel in Nektulos Forest. I pull one of the level 25v sentries as I am only at about 70 per cent health. I get one of those weird ones where another Sentry adds for no reason (I pulled with Head Shot so I don't get proximity aggro). No biggie I think, my original target is 1/2 dead from the ranged CA and Evac is up. I quickly put my original target out of his undead misery, and shift my attention to the unwelcome visitor. I then notice he is a 25^ and I am already half dead. Again Im pretty sure if things head south evac will still save the day. I go through my usual routine, getting my dots happening and placing my Mark on my victim. My health is getting alarmingly low and the Sentry is still well over 1/2 health when suddenly good old Mark procs and his health drops like a rock. I get off a cheap shot, move to a rear position, shrouded strike and finish with Assassin's Blade. Poor over confident undead fool never knew what hit him. To complete the picture was the glorious ding sound, bringing me to my current level of 29. And of course the instant invis afterwards made recovery downtime a breeze with no fear of discovery (wasn't really necessary as the ding had restored my health to full but its nice to have the option to drop out of sight post battle)

Few classes have the ability to turn a losing situation into a win so dramatically as an Assassin. My main is a Necromancer so I am used to good solid DPS via my pets and dots, but for straight burst damage my Assassin is a blast. I am not so naive to believe it will be easy all the way to 60. But for the moment I am having fun and in the end isn't that what we play games for ?

Sark on behalf of Slaene the Level 29 Iksar Necromancer (a true cold blooded killer).

Message Edited by Sarkoris on 12-30-2005 09:48 AM

No class is ever perfect but [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] I love playing my 60 assassin. Tons of dps falling out of our pockets. Not as much as rangers but oh well. I love having some strong ranged attacks and once you get in the habit Concealment can start a kick [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] CA chain without getting aggro if you do it right. Its definitely a challenge to play an assassin compared to some of the other classes because you have to work hard for your food timing hits with debuffs and aggro and such but its a lot more interesting. So many other small things to love...evac, pathfinding( for us horseless scouts....whoever heard of an assassin on a horse), apply poison( which i thought was lame til i found every single tank asks for it), finishing blow( some say not enough or have to wait too long to use..well ill take a 3k hit whether its the first or last 20% of health), brutal focus( a nice little boost), the list goes on.

I'm a lover not a hater, Rhys 60 assassin/Kithicor

Agreed alt is a 28 assassin, can't get any stealthed attacks off on a 25^ or so using cheap shot. But that isn't to say that I still don't have a blast, really fun class.

? At 54, I can get that combo to work vs ^^^'s even. Not 100% of the time, but probably 70-80%. Maybe you just lag more or something. I'd heard talk of cheap shot scaling, so maybe thats the difference, but when i'm on the ball and it all lands right I can cheap shot, mask of night, then use any of my stealth spells and have em land. /shrug

2 seconds is plenty of time to get off a stealth attack. Hit cheap shot, while it's casting jump at the mob. It lands, mob stunned for 2 seconds, you're behind him, mask of night, assassinate... I do it all the time.

Honestly, the work that it takes. I've tried several other classes, all seemed boring in comparison. Ok, perhaps it is a masachistic streak that makes me think this yet although its a tough class it is by far the most rewarding. While others may not recognize the work that goes into playing the class the personal satisfaction is what keeps me playing.

What I like about my assassin ?? about zip. After the revamp assassin was turned from a great recon/utility/DPS to pure DPS with some utility left.I hate it.My assassin is lvl 50 and he is 2 steps from dead and buried.....only reason I keeps him is that he was my first true character (made alot of characters that never hit 20's)....and with the faint hope that devs shall make assassins into the great class they once was.I chose assassin because I love to sneak around and scout behind enemy lines, now...about 1/3 of all the mobs in a zone can see me...plus that ALL nameds can see me.I'll stop here or else I'll just go on forever about how I hate the new assassin. But Im glad to see Im not the only one who see's the assassin as almost destroyed.

Etolle -

I'm with Pist here. With practice, you can make good use of Cheap Shot while soloing. The 3/4 second stun it provides vs. heroics is enough time to jump over the mob's head (or run around in some cases) backstab-invis, then backstab from stealth for a nice damage bonus. Only 3-4 of your stealth attacks are going to cast rapidly enough to make the time window, the "big damage" ones (assassinate, etc) aren't going to pull off in that short time, but the lower damage debuff strikes or ones with a good DOT component will.

- Denzel Lugassi, 47 Assassin of Mistmoore / Soul Harvest

I personally Love my Assassin. Have a 60 zerker, 38 pally and 20 bruiser. By far love playing my assassin much more than any other class. Might not be the best DPS in the Game. Might not be able to avoid aggro all the time. It's plain and simply the fact that we can't just stand there and click the mouse button. To play an Assassin effectively and with any degree of success, you have to constantly think, manuever and anticipate what is going to happen. It is the simply the fact that you have to constantly be active to do anything.

I've read numerous posts about assassins complaining because they can't out DPS so and so. Big deal. If you had more DPS, you would always be dead. If you are playing effectively you can still do massive DPS and stay alive. Was in GoAA the other night hitting 900+ DPS every fight. Pulling aggro? yes, every once in a while. Dieing? twice in 4 hours i think. It's all about playing your toon to the best of it's ability, not yours.

Would never trade my assassin for any other class.

You hardly ever see me post in the Assassin forum because I really don't have much issue with her. She's my main, she's 55, she kills stuff dead when I aim her right- no complaint. I've played the other classes and have several alts on a couple accounts and this really is my favorite.

I'm able to solo fine when needed but I spend most of my time in groups and feel like a solid contributer even when grouped alongside a ranger friend.

It'd be nice to be able to have STR added to our self buff line because they did change things to make STR became rather important to us. Just as in EQ1, Sony loves big round numbers so if you're not feeling the DPS power and your STR is under 250 or *shudder* under 200 go shopping and get yourself above the magic number 200 and see the difference.

It'd be nice if all scouts had a group buff for safe fall, but that may just be my personal wish because I often am denting up the plate wearers in my regular group when I lead them to "something interesting on track I wanna check out" and head off in a straight beeline.

It'd also be nice if our Mask attack cloaked us from AE while putting us into stealth so we could be lazy and stay at the sweet spot we've found back there for positional attacks instead of having to joust and spend time repositioning. I've seen some folks mention here that they sometimes aren't stealthed when they use Mask - that's never happened to me, I may just be lucky and been spared some bugs.

All classes are very dependant on equipment stats, if you're feeling frustrated with an inability to solo or do damage I'd strongly suggest looking over STR, AGI, WIS (overall resists) and to invest in imbued Legendary chest & legs if you aren't in Fabled. When you're shopping it isn't necessary to get the most expensive thing, some stuff I've got was the cheapest thing but had the highest STR or is filling in a resists need until I find something better. Always use handcrafted debuf and damage poisons which are proper tier for your level, it's a big part of your dps so bookmark www.eq2alchemy.com if you haven't already. When you're in a tight spot use your cheap shot & the strike line carefully to keep things stunned as much as you can. Be observant in groups - try to watch your tank's taunt rhythm and time your big damage to fall after he's got solid aggro and just when his taunt is coming available for use. It's a dance.

I'm by no means uber - I have no Master 1 abilities and no Fabled but I'm able to take on even con and yellow con solo mobs and have survived blue heroic groups and that's about all I need to get through the soloable quests I've had so far. Dying happens but usually when I've just said "Oooh hang on a sec, wanna try something" :smileytongue:

I play many alts (I have 8 toons lvls 20 - 50), but my favorite is my Assassin. He is only 32 at the moment, but I am truly enjoying the results I get with him during a fight. My 50 Inquisitor takes a goodly amount of time to take down a mob. Granted, with the Inq I never need to worry about adds as I can just cast a reactive heal and be back to the main MOB death. But, after playing my Assassin, I realize taking down a MOB as if it was an annoying gnat is very pleasurable. I pay more attention with my Assassin which allows me to immerse moreso in the game. I find while playing my Assassin, I am truly experiencing the escapist fantasy I wanted from EQ2.

I love my assassin because it gives me the ability to have a mentally unstable ratonga (it has been pointed out that all ratonga are mentally unstable, i find this an affront to my kind. My mother only tried to gnaw the leg off of one ogre in her lifetime, granted it was within 30 seconds of a messy death but still...) who has an obsessive compulsive disorder when it comes to 'stabby'.

Unfortunately the rest of the people who tend to be on at the same time as me are now mocking poor Algazeed. One day, one day they will wake up to find a knife in their back, or a knife hole at least (i'm not leaving a perfectly good dagger behind at the scene). Or rather not waking up with a dagger wound in their back, but you get the idea? yis?

stabby...

I LOVE my assasin, and someday I hope to even play her well =p. When I duo big nameds with with the hubby (SK / INQ 2 boxer) my favorite is when the clerics out of power SK out of power/tricks and he says ok honey make it dead please, and we do =). Theres a lot more to it but thats my favorite part.
