I just started this game with a few of my friends and noticed that I could only be a Ranger if I started in Qeynos. I know about the betrayal quest, but i don't want to do that becuase i am currently playing with my friends and I want to play the game with them. My question is: Can an assassin use bows, and if so how much different is it than a ranger?(power, effectiveness, and just all around usage) I definetly want to use a bow, so hopefully I don't have to go through this long process.

If I chose to play a Ranger and start from scratch at Qeynos, can I play with my friends later on who are evil and play in Freeport? I just started the game today, and I'm trying to find the best way to be a ranger while playing with my friends who are on the evil side.

Message Edited by Mermeep on 12-05-2005 01:56 AM

I agree completely with Khaly. Once you get past the early 20s, you and your friends can be from different cities with no consequence. The only areas that become a pain to access and fight in are the lower depths of the sewers under Freeport and Qeynos -- eg: Edgewater Drains. But, even those areas have ways for good/evil to play together, it just takes longer to get there.

My Assassin is only 37, but I find that my ranged bow attacks are fantastic. I have a great blend of close-combat rogue type skills, and good selection of ranged combat and stun/root skills to keep things interesting. To me, a ranger is "too much" focus on ranged combat. While soloing, I get a lot of damage from my assassin by stunning and running around backstabbing my opponent, and while the ranger can do similar technique, the damage benefit is considerably less.

If you want to be a "plinker" - fighting at range in a group most of the time, I'd think a ranger is the best choice. Think of them as Wizards with bows. =)

You can make a ranger and get to commonlands fairly easy even at low level, go out to Qh get a boat ticket to TS and then see if u can find someone with escape to zone into Nek and escape you right to the CL zone. But it would be even easier for your friends to go to qeynos to join you, they simply buy a ticket to thundering steppes <aka TS> then run to antonica from the dock pretty safe run, get on griffon to qeynos station and meet you out in Antonica. Once you get higher level pretty much you will be grouping, and hunting along side all races from each city, and you can even be in guilds that are made up of both cities, as was said the whole qeynos vs freeport thing never really came to be...yet anyway. Edit* Forgot to add, it is even easier now to travel since they bumped natural speed, you can pretty much out run everything so if u got a good map you can just tear thru nek forest dodging what you can, but still say your friends would have it much easier getting from FP to Qeynos.

Message Edited by NerroVI on 12-05-2005 08:09 AM
