View Full Version : Do you use Assassin's Mark, Vex when solo? (or whatever their upgrades are)

I'm 24 and have tried using these, and not using these. Seems mobs die faster when I ignore these two talents and just go for more damaging combos. Just wondering if this is what most people do, or if I'm offbase on this.

(my normal hunting spots are TS, Nek, Splitpaw...ok gear, think I'm using a couple 10.x axes atm)

For soloing: You can try to put in Dirty Tricks (Vex, etc) after a Cheap Shot as you stealth and/or reposition for a flank/stealth attack. I find that this works out quite nicely to get the mobs defense and mitigation down while (a) not costing me too much time I could be dealing damage and (b) not getting hit as I execute this debuff. For mobs that have a single up-delta the Dirty Tricks and Stalk lines work very nicely together to debuff the mob and stealth you as setup for a big hit while not waking the stunned mob. As for the Mark line, I mainly use it during the time that a mob is closing between bow and melee range (they are already poisoned, they are already snared, and they have already been hit by one of more arrow CAs), at that point the Cheap Shot+Dirty Tricks+Stalk/Stealth+<strike> combo works reasonably well.

Thanks Deak.

Typically I've been using Dirty Tricks as the heroic oppt'y starter for when Cheap Shot is down. Haven't been using Stalk at all, will have to check that out.

Message Edited by iciss1969 on 10-21-2005 11:39 PM

you should definatly try using your stalk line vs. hunt for solo stealth, it is faster cast timer and will work hand in hand with cheap shot very nicely. I have found that the exposed attack line (which deals dmg then stealths the caster) alot of times wakes the stunned mob, but if you are fast you may be able to get this combo to work nicely.

Ah thanks Dark. I have indeed been using Shrouded Strike (think thats what its called) after Cheap Shot to set up my stealth attack, didnt even think about it breaking the stun. I will give stalk a try.

When facing single-delta mobs or heroic mobs you should always use Stalk for combat stealth to avoid breaking the stun effect from Cheap Shot on such mobs, Dirty Tricks/Assassin's Mark/Ensnare can be used safely w/o breaking the stun as well. For all other mobs you can use whatever works best for you, I usually opt for Shouded Strike for two reasons: its recast is tied very closely to the that of the Ambush line and any added damage while soloing is usually beneficial. You just have to pay attention to the mobs you are fighting and whether or not a damaging attack will break the Cheap Shot effect.

i suggest having cheap shot as a hotkey and then separately having a hotkey which is a macro something like this: use ability cheapshot pause x use ability surveil in this way when fighting a non heroic mob you can use cheapshot - mask of night - stealth attack but when fighting a heroic you switch over to macro - stealth attack.
