View Full Version : DPS over the assassins lifetime?

Is the Assassin DPS below average over the course of the entire level range, or does it start to lag behind at the higher levels only? I ask because I am recently returned to the game, and have a 29 assassin and 20 ranger. While I prefer the assassin slightly, it's not enough to make me level a class thats going to be behind the power curve through the entire leveling process. Thanks in advance <div></div>

<DIV>In the end play whoever you want because changes will continue to happen so whoever is highest and most popular today may not be so tomorrow.</DIV>

While I appreciate the feedback, I have never been of the play whatever class you like mentality. I get a large part of my enjoyment from knowing that I am making a real and noticable contribution to my team. I don't enjoy playing a class that is sub par compared to it's counterparts making it that much harder to contribute, not to mention get into teams in the first place.   I realize that in mmo's things change, and if they do then I can always change with them. Call me crazy but, I enjoy the leveling process, what I don't enjoy having to work twice as hard as the next guy to do it . <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />  Just a yeah, they are behind the dps curve their entire life, or no, it only affects them near the end game would be awsome. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

I have a friend who has a 50+ Assassin, he quit her because he hated the class (didn't delete her tho) and made a Templar and loved her. Then the combat changes were brought on and he hate his Temp and saw that Assassin's were better in his opinion. So, life in this game can run down one road and take a short cut on you if your not careful sometimes <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

Thats why I don't really worry about things being changed in the future, I have changed classes many times in many games. I just like to know I am making the best contribution I can to my group while I am playing. Thats why I asked about the power curve during the entire leveling process.  If it's only at the end, 50+, where assassins start to slip, then I don't care.  I'll worry about it when I am 50+, if however, it's an uphill fight the entire way then I will just save myself some grief and play my Ranger or something else <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> <div></div>

not to whine or what, assassin was quiet good from 1 to 40, then the slope start going up slow. while other class has significate boost on their DPS. We are hoping for the upgrade for our class however.

I'm only level 37, but right now I'm pretty happy with my assassin.  Up until the high 20's, my dps wasn't really any better than the tank I usually play with.  He's a guardian, typically 2-4 levels higher than I am.  Once I hit 30, it's really made a noticeable difference.  We were fighting level 37^^^ right before I hit 37 and I was doing about the same dps as a necro one level higher than me in the same group.  We did nek castle last night with a guardian, troubador, defiler, inquisitor, warden and me(assassin).  Granted I was the only dps in the group, but I often did double the dps of the guardian and more than the rest of the party combined. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> Where it seems to hurt right now is any mob's that con red.  I miss a lot, so my dps takes a big hit.  Mages (especially necros) don't seem to be affected as drastically.  I have read a lot of posts about our sub-par dps with parses to back them up.  I'm just hoping it gets fixed before I'm really affected by it.  If not, I'll just switch to my bruiser until they fix us, although I think assassins are much more fun to actually play. <div></div>

<P>well, if you want exact feedback on your question, i can tell you this:  as a 43 assassin, i have decent stats (160 str & agi w/ out group buffs, food, etc) and all adept 1 or better CA's.  since level 35 or so and even at 43 i have been king of dps (i parse all the time, every battle) in any group i'm in, pick-up or guild.  i regularly group w/ a wiz of the same level w/ adept spells and 261 int (wiz class dmg is affected by the amount of int they have) and i still beat him 19 times out of 20, and that's not even really using the 5 min mega backstab to bump up my dps.  upgrade your gear, CA's, weapons, use the best poisons u can afford, and make your attack que the most efficient u can and you will have great dps... at least until level 43 for sure =)</P> <P>this is all ASSUMING: a) i am within a level or 2 of the other dps classes 2) that the mob is yellow or lower.  if the mobs are orange or red to you but only white to the other dps'r, u will always lose.</P> <P>i personally love the assassin more than any of the other classes i've played.  i'm sure the ranger would be fun too, but i like mixing close battle and bow shots vs. just bow shots.  but that's me.  if raw data is what you're looking for, there is my 2cp from level 43.  yes, peeps say that towards 50 and up it will drop off, but i guess we'll just see.  hope this helps.</P>

During levels 30-45 I recall being able to dish out enough damage to surprise most pickup groups and cause aggro issues for most tanks. Around clvl 45 the other DPS classes caught up and surpassed us in certain circumstances. Before the combat update the melee classes that could consistently out DPS my Assassin were Swashbucklers, Berserkers, and Bruisers. After the combat update, the divide between myself and these classes that reside in lower DPS tiers than the Assassin has grown significantly. Our aggro situation is certainly much different now with our aggro reducing (Predator) and aggro transferring buffs (Assassin). <div></div>
