Poisons and you: a dissertation of modern poisons in the tier 5 What is poison, can I drink it? Poisons come in 3 different types: Vendor sold, common tradeskill made, rare tradeskill made. Each type has 5 classes of poisons that deal damage in different ways. In addition to damage poison you can also buy player made debuff poisons. You may only use 1 damage poison and 1 debuff poison at once. You can not drink poison. How do poisons work? All poisons deals damage in 2 ways, an initial direct damage and a dot. When a poison is proced off one of your weapons it inflicts it's initial direct damage(dd) + it's damage over time(dot) followed by 3 rounds of dot damage. So to find the total damage of a poison you would add it's DD damage + it's dot damage x 4. If you proc your poison again before the dot completes, then the dot will overwrite and start over. Posions will not stack from other players, so if you are using the same posion as someone else in your group, you will overwrite each other's damage. What are poison classes? Posions come in 5 classes that vary the amount of direct damage and dot damage they inflict. Some posions have high direct with low dot, and some have low dot with high direct. Here is listed the different types. HDLI = high dot, low initial HDMI = high dot, medium initial MDMI = medium dot, medium initial MDHI = medium dot, high initial LDHI = low dot, high initial What poison is for me? Which class of poison you use is based on situation. If you are procing a lot, a higher initial poison is better because you will be dealing more dps per tick. But if your poisons are running their full course, you are better to have a high dot poison since as a rule high dot poisons deal more total damage. Selecting a poison is about knowing where your poison will proc and using the correct class to maximize damage. In this way, there is no best poison or worst poison. In general, when fighting ranged a higher initial poison is more desirable, and when melee fighting higher dot is usually more desirable. You also have to take into account what your fellow scouts are using. For instance, if you all use HDLI posion everyone will suffer dps from overwriting procs. HI poisons tend to be more stack friendly than HD since the majority of HI posion is delt on the initial hit. It is always a good idea to travel with several types of poison for these reasons. If one poison is good, then 10 must be better right? No, you can not stack your poisons. If you cast several poisons you will see that you have the buffs for them, but only one poison (usually the first you cast) will ever proc. Here is a chart which shows all the t5 damage poisons and what their total damage is at each point. The highest damage poison for each round is highlighted pink. You will notice that some poisons don't kick in until later on and some only get worse as time goes on. Because of this they all have their uses, and you can use this chart to determine where you are likley to proc the most with your fighting style. If you tend to vary then one of the middle poisons may be more right for you. This chart leaves out Torrent of the Ages because at the time of this writing it does the same thing as Influence of Hate. I also left out bubbling blood because it only triggers 4 times total which makes it a special and very situational poison and not to be considered with the standard damage poisons. It is also worth noting that poison damage will vary based on the mobs PR and by debuffing PR you can increase poison damage, though not beyond the values listed here.

Very nice post By rounds I assume you mean per tick, so you got initial dmg + 1st tick, 2nd tick, 3rd tick dmg totals for each. Very informative

This was extremely helpful! A quick color reference and detailed timing/damage chart like this is exactly what I have been looking for! This is sticky material if I have ever seen it! Great work =)

I see lots of procing on bowshots, but not a lot of procing on melee.

Is this your experience?

I see huge multiple procing when attacking grouped mobs. I think that maybe Blade Flurry gives causes more poison hits procs. Maybe the poison procs also proc blade flurry and there is feedback. I never have the combat spam on, though, so I have not examined it closely.

I have been using Torrent of the Ages. Now I will have to try Decrepit Stab.

For example, instead of procing 5% chance each hit, they proc 5% of the time you use it. So bow's, with their long reuse time, seem to proc more. Fast weapons, wont seem to proc as much. In EQL you could for example, have a 1.5 delay weapon with 5% proc, or a 4 second delay weapon with 10% proc. Which one proced more? You would have to do some math.

In EQ2 they dumbed it down. 10% always procs more than 5%, no matter what the delay difference in weapons is.

I find that in melee combat, torrent of the ages is more dps. The chart posted above is not based on how often the poison procs, but rather on one proc and the dot that follows. I sometimes proc torrent 3 times in a row.

However, I find that decrepit stab is more dps when bow kiting.
