I'm suprised this hasn't been discussed lately, or if it was.. I missed it. As far as I know.. other scout classes can hit mobs as long as the weapon in their prim hand isn't resisted. This is not the case for assassins. Here's a list of combat arts that can't hit Pierce Resist mobs no matter what we have in our Primary Hand: Seeping Wound Infected Wound Condmning Blade Bloodthirster Massacre Assassinate Which means that the only thing we can use on those mobs is: Lingering Blow Mask of Night Punch Blade That just doesn't seem right to me. It makes us almost useless on pierce resist targets compaired to other melee dps classes. As far as combat arts go anyway. Do other classes have this problem? or is it just us? Discuss...

Message Edited by ERROR on 07-14-2005 07:10 PM

This has been discussed over and over between preds and wizards especially. It's better today than it used to be because many mobs used to be pierce resistant and then highly slash resistant as well making preds all but useless. I wouldnt say we are useless though on pierce immune mobs get some slash/crush arrows and you can use assassins shot and faltering blast for big hits combined with the 3 you listed and I can often come out on top of the dps charts still and thats with just a partial spectrum of my abilities. We aren't alone though in this since wizards suffer the same problem with fire/cold resists and often fall far short of us in those situations.

you forgot about massacre and shadow assault. i know they arnt the best attacks, but they are a good combo to us with surveil since punch blade is on the same timer as mask of night, and they hit pierce immune mobs.

Spitting Viper is pierce only as well, regardless of arrow type

The list of attacks that cannot be used on pierce immune targets is: Assassinate Assassin's Mark Bloodthirster Condeming Blade Infected Wound Seeping Wound Spitting Viper All of these attacks are the lower dps attacks that assassin's have. Plus, skills like condeming blade and assassinate lend themselves much better to picking off adds in a raid (which are not pierce immune though the main encounter might be) than to actually dps the main mob. Both of these skills have long reuse timers, so their beauty is in doing large damage fast, not in doing large dps. The large dps attacks for assassins are Faltering blast, Lingering Blow, Mask of Night and Punch blade. All of these can be used against pierce immune mobs. Add the fact that in most raids you are likely to run oop or close to it anyway, it doesn't matter how you got oop as much as you think it might. And of course, slashing mobs present the chance to use prismatic which gives a power regen. Then end result is, that in short durration fights you would greatly miss attacks like spitting viper and bloodthirster, but for longer lasting raid targets you will find your dps does not change much wiether it be pierce or slash only mob.

Good Post, Sumanye.

But, what's up with Assassinate not hitting pierce immune mobs? The description clearly states that it does magic (not pierce) damage, and it counts as magic damage on HH.

And, btw, Massacre is a highly overlook skill for fights with lots of adds or trash mobs. When you can blast 5 mobs for 300 points each and proc poison on multiple mobs at once, the damage totals can add up fast.

I mentioned this to a dev while I was testing the new instance for the Live event a few weeks ago, he said he was going to pass it on to the CA guys. I'm sure he did since he is VERY good about that sort of stuff. He thought it should be some where around half and half. I'd be happy if I had a few major attacks that were not pierce based. I do great dmg on most raid targets however those pierce resistant ones really kick me into low 100's. Best thing to do is keep /bug'ing it and mention it to every SoE empoyee that you meet.
