View Full Version : DPS heaven and helll

Ive never been out damaged on any epic encounter. You'd think that Wiz / Warlocks would be putting out more.. but in long fights where they end up running out of power... there DPS drops quick.

For instance, last night we raided an Epic x4 Lv55 mob. I was holding 200 dps with no issue. ( I was trying not to get agro ) I can push it a tad higher .. 230 - 250 but then I tend to have agro issues. Im not talking about quick 2min battles. Im talking about 10min encounter where im putting out 60 - 70 - 80k worth of damage alone.

It all depends what weapons / poisons / adepts / masters.. you have. Then the common fact of knowing your role and your class.

For instance, Wyrmsteel pwns against drakes / dragons. For optimal performance you have to research your targets a bit.

Message Edited by Elvar on 07-23-2005 06:47 AM

Message Edited by Elvar on 07-23-2005 06:58 AM

LOLThe fact is assassins are under powered. 1.)Our DPS is around 200ish at raids against single mob type (i.e.Drayek), and if the mob is not pierce immune or slash immune. Given the same group makeup and same quality of gears (i.e. same buffs) Most bruisers or brawlers will have no problem out-dpsing us. 2.)We have no group buff vs Wizzy resistance buff, Warlock poison buff, Dirge Mig buff etc. We have no group invis vs Swashy and Brigand3.)It cost 3g in most servers to attain a decent poison, and 6g+ to attain a legendary posion. A stack of decent arrows cost 50s -1g, special hunting slashing arrows cost even more. 4.)Assassin seems to pick up aggro like crazy, I can't remember any other class steals aggro more often.(then again Warlock is having problem with that too.)5.)Not unique abilities (Pathfinding is offset by horse, Evac is not unique ability, Sneak is wrost then invis.)

At his point of the game " being Lv 50 " I really have no need for cash. My guild supplys me with what I need .. food / drink .. weapons and armor. So spending cash on good poison is not a concern. Infact I bought 20 vials of Translucent Touch of the Void about 2 months ago. Since then Ive maybe gone thru half.. and I dont think I spent more then 40-50g thru a friend ive done buisness with in the past.

Also alot of assassins dont even use there ranged attack. Assassins shot , Spitting Viper , Faultering Blast ... They all hit for around 500 - 900dmg and Faultering Blast throws out 2 shots ranging 300 - 500 dmg each. Also I noticed that poison and proc rates are much higher with ranged weapons.

What Im getting at is ... last raid I parsed the final mob. Fight lasted around 4 - 5min. I pulled 251.4 DPS and did a total of 62,000 damage by myself. Im MORE then content with those numbers. The mob was a named drakota Lv55 Grpx4 ^^^

Compared to most of our other guild members who barely made 100dps throughout the encounter. I have yet to see these Bezerkers and Brawlers that can push higher numbers then me.

Im not saying there are some out there that can, maybe they have great gear / spells but just cause there are a few that have pulled a good round out of a fight, doesnt mean that were under powered... or they are too powerful.

My 2cp's

Message Edited by Elvar on 07-27-2005 06:23 AM

I tend to agree with the above poster about poison/arrow cost not really matering......i only use bow for CA so i just use cheap hunting arrows.....

My main concern is agro loss....If they did nothing in the combat revamp but change our CA'damage to reflect the weapon we wielding and gave us a much better hate reducer on a small timer i would be happy (ok maybe more dps too )

BTW so far i have 9 adept 3 CA....saving up for punch blade ATM

Message Edited by Skratttt on 07-27-2005 09:03 AM

I know its not right comparing warlock and assasin but I have one of each (neither 50 yet) and the warlocks damage is higher. I've read many posts in the warlock forums and all I know is how to nuke. Ever heard about something called Devastation? Its the lvl 50 warlock spell and at master 1 it can deal 3,000 damage to each of up to 5 targets. I know you like that lol :smileywink:. Oh and btw someone said Guardians do more spell damage...LMFAO.

Well I also have a guardian and they get a spell that heals them to full hp but then a 30 second timer comes up and when that timer is up the guardian is killed by MASSIVE magic damage to make sure the guardian does not live so in other words that damage is to themselves...good try though :smileyvery-happy:.

Assasins get crazy dmg but on long recast timers which limit them . If assasins timers where like warlocks wed have warlocks start taking steriods before you can say knife to try and compete.

I agree if I dont have either my 60sec hh or my 3min hh up a warlock may be able to out dmg me on a single group encoutner ^^ like a giant in PF or SoL.

But .. on epic encounters.. I dont care what class you are. I have not been out damaged on an mob Lv 52^^^ x4 or higher. Especially when I can use my Wyrmsteel toys. If I happen to have a chante rin my group I can get to around 140+% hasted. That combined with procs / poison and my own line of debuff's / DoT's nothing can touch me. ( or our class in general ) if you know your role as an assassin

Cheerz

Fallenup, dude, u crack me up. i for one enjoyed your post. do you write for Ali-G? if not, give him a call, he could use your material :smileyvery-happy:

as far as the conversation at hand, i will say that it is too hard to say due to situational damage. as above posters have mentioned the wiz/warlocks will destroy on AE but on longer fights our melee alone will keep our dps way up when power's gone. it all just depends on mobs, upgrades, gear, and your competition at the time.

I have a warlock and an assassin. I raid with both. I can honestly say that my warlock has yet to be outdamaged by an assassin yet on a mob that isn't poison-resistant [ Spirits of the Lost anyone? ]. We don't run out of power with Grisly Contract (527hp for 402power at Adept 3, at Master I it's some sick number of power, like almost 600 or more). With Robe of the Invoker, Golden Efreeti Boots, Ring of the Nightblood ( still waiting for prismatic blah ), and the spell I mentioned above, I just don't run out.

I still like playing my assassin more though, it's more of a challenge to do the damage. I can eat a bowl of popcorn w/ my warlock and still do 100% of DPS that I do when I'm 'trying' [hah?].

I hope the revamp makes my assassin do more damage so my guild can ask me to play my assassin more

>I have a warlock and an assassin. I raid with both. I can honestly say that my warlock has yet to be outdamaged by an assassin yet on a mob that isn't poison->resistant

Congrats to your choice of warlock. I have a Wizard/Assassin duo - my assassin is only level 28 so I cannot really compare the two classes for highend content,

but clearly my assassin has been a far better soloer up to level 30 than my wizard was.

Typically assassins make 2-3 times the damage of my lvl 50 wizard on raids, because 80 % are resistant to fire and cold. Together with warlocks, assassins are the best DPS on raids, closely followed by bruisers and monks. On non-resistant mobs though usually my wizard comes out about 20% higher than a lvl 50 assassin. Everything is going to change anyhow with the revamp, but clearly Assassins are doing excellent DPS as they are, and will probably recieve a further boost with the revamp.

Message Edited by masseman on 08-05-2005 08:32 AM

Its people like you Fallenup that make it necessary to have warning labels on coffee cups.

Please don't tell me how good assassins are at 27-28, we have all been there and most of us, you not included, are at higher levels and are dealing with real issues with our class.

It won't happen.

there was a bloodlines ability that healed you up to full health but I think 1 1/2 minutes later it would hit you for one and a half times your maximum health. maybe it just hit you for one and a half times the health you healed. I think the point was to survive a fight and get somewhere easier to recover your shard or give your healer a better time to revive you.
