<DIV>Anyone have any tips or tricks they use to raise their ranged skill? I'm lvl 26 Assasin and my ranged skill is 70 or so. Mobs always resist my ranged attacks, I assume because my skill is so low. So anyone have any advice on how I can bring it up to par fairly quick??</DIV>

buy stacks and stacks of cheap arrows and use your ranges CA's more on non-grey con mobs... it just takes time

You might want to just Head Shot or Open Shot on the pulls as mobs are incoming and then use backshot while fighting.  Just use tin arrows since they are cheap and your ranged skill will slowly go up.  The big thing is to just make using the bow a habit and then the skill will slowly start to catch up to your level.

<DIV>I agree with Khalysta. My bow skill trailed behind a lot until I got Opening Shot. Then I made it a point to pull with my Bow CA at least 50% of the time. My skill is now maxed, can't remember it missing + poison procs on bow shot 75% of the time. You are the same lvl as me. I either open up with Ebon or Assassin's Blade from behind or Head Shot from far off. Ebon usually hits for 200ish, Assassin's 500-600 and Head Shot 200ish with poison of another 100 between the large opening and the small dot. Anyway, no matter how you do it get it maxed. The ranged attack for an Assassin is one of our most useful attacks.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>I was lvl 18 when I first equipped a bow :smileytongue:.  I was working on the Oughran Foulforge(sp?) quest and he was still kicking the snot out of me so I decided to kite him.  Needless to say I failed every shot :smileywink:.  So I went to the Sprawl I believe it was and started shooting lvl 4 mobs :smileyvery-happy:.  I missed them over 50% of the time, by the time I had around 50ish skill I was able to hit them about 95% of the time.  From there I started kiting lvl 11 and 12 carrion hounds and same thing, 50% or worse at first, around 90 skill I has destroying them and was finally able to kite Oughran.  Now I kite mobs 3-5 lvls higher than me whenever I'm out gathering and happen to catch aggro or when I'm working on quests.  Kiting definitely is a staple to our livelihood when soloing, whether you solo the entire encounter or just use it to soften up a mob, definitely something that IMO you need to get up to par asap.  GL!</DIV>

<P>I didnt' get my ranged skill up until I was level 48.  I had gotten Faltering Blast Master 1, so I decided to get it up.</P> <P>If you go to Nektulos Forest, you can train a group of bears towards the lake.  Just before the lake they will stop chasing you and the encounter will break.  They do not, however, run back to their spawn point.  You can just shoot them for an eternity.  Just use auto-attack.  You don't need to use CA's.  You just can't get skill points on mobs that are grey to your current skill level.  </P> <P>After I got my skill to about 140ish, I had to do the same thing with Nightbloods in Enchanted Lands.  You can run them back to just before Chomper and they will do the same thing.  </P> <P>I maxed my skill in about 3 or 4 hours total.</P> <P> </P>

our ranged ca's are a big part of our DPS in a group. many posting here seem to be emphasizing that you need range skill for kiting. while that's true if you don't have maxed ranged skill you're not achieving your max dps potential in any situation. i use faltering / spitting ALL the time and assassin's pretty often as well. given the higher chance of proc on poisons and an imbued bow, they are well worth the cast and reposition time. just be careful you watch what you're doing so you don't get adds. keep in mind you don't have to be facing the mob to cast them and keep an eye on your surroundings when repositioning. <div></div>

<DIV>This week I was mentoring down to 25th level.  I did not remember the the bow skills on those abilities require a much higher range to the target.  By the time you have Spitting Viper, you can take two steps back and land your bow abilities--but it takes much more minimum range in the low levels.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>With the right combination of debuff/damage poisons, you can have more trouble managing agro from bow skills than from your highest melee attacks.  After the tank has agro, do your bow abilities and you can end up with huge damage as multiple damage numbers--200's, 300's, 400, and even 500's and 600's pop.  Sometimes this gets the mob's attention, though, and ruins your damage output or even kills you.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I use a poison which debuffs poison mitigation, by the way.  </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Julian Granger</DIV> <DIV>The Discipleship</DIV> <DIV>Antonia Bayle</DIV>

<P>Hi,</P> <P>I don't post here very often but I think that this post deserves some comment. I am a level 42 ROTUNGA Assassian and I recently traded in my long coveted Bloodlet bow for and ebued shortbow. I cannot emphisise how important archery is to an Assassian. I cannot tell you how many times I have darted in and out of melee to get off a chain of shots to the amazement of my group as mobs that are 5 levels above me crumple beneath the hail of my IRON arrows. Yes I use a short bow and IRON arrows along with a nice poison. At 42 I still use backshot for the added DPS followed by deadly shot and then Assassians Shot (Headshot if your not this high level). Average dammage in the time it takes me to get all of this off is around 1100 points of dammage with the short bow. With a long bow its even more disgusting, hovering around 1200 to 1300. See each of the 3 attacks will also be accompanied by an additional normal attack that does anywhere from 75-150 points of dammage on average. A real conservative estamate would be Ranged (75), Headshot (150), Ranged (75), Deadly Shot (150), Ranged (75), Assassians Shot (150): which adds up to (75*3(150*3)) = 675 (This does not include poison! which is about 25-50 per attack on average!) Now keep in mind that Back Shot, Deadly Shot and Assassians Shot are all DOUBLE ATTACKS offering 2 Poison procs per use. So the conservative estimate on poisons is about (25+(25*2)+25+(25*2)+25+(25*2) = 325. So our grand total on conservative estimates is 675+325 = 1000. Now this is grouped and does not include any melee attacks and is assuming we are fighting heroci mobs.</P> <P>Solo is a whole different story as I cannot use back shot. But using pathfinding and moor this little rat can run in a nice circle and widdle down ^ up heroic mob in about 70-80 secs. Assassinas and Rangers are MASTERS at bow kiting and thus its my advice that if you are going to be effective in a group or solo with the minimum down time you need to get your bow skills up and invest in a decent bow. The best way to get this skill up is to go buy stacks of tin arrows and kite blue and yellow mobs until you get your skill up. Once your skill is maxed out for your level go after solo or small group mobs that are 3-4 levels higher then you (KITE! you But off) and you will level like mad. By the way, unless you have uber platinum, there is no need to use arrows better then iron.</P> <P>As for Melee...well... stay behind your target...if you can't, KITE! Assassians have no business tanking...thats for tanks...we are Assassians!</P>

Here's the 3 things I did to raise my skill (and I had a ranged skill of 30 about 2 months ago).  1) Start using your bow in groups  2) Get alot of cheap arrows and a couple of healing potions ... if your high enough (around 40) and can solo the sisters in Nek Castle .. sneak into the instance. Start the quest, kill a few of the sister (around 4 I think), get the demon to spawn (cant remember which is sister it is) and shoot your little heart out. He'll nuke ya back, but the damage isnt that bad. Course again depends on levels, I could get about 20 shots off on him before having to run down the stairs to heal with potions. 3) Head to TS with a backpack full of arrows. Shoot a giant, when he approaches you and starts combat, slowly pull back until your bow starts going off again. Giants are ussually so tall, you can stand and shoot them while theyre in melee. Yep, I get bored late at night and have a lot of time on my hands. =P ~Thetmes 47 Dark Elf Assassin Draconic Legion, Unrest <div></div>
