View Full Version : Rare Medium or Light Armor for the 40's and 50's
Rare Medium or Light Armor for the 40's and 50's? Not sure if this subject been touched on, i guess, if your in a grp most of the time do you REALLY need the mitigation, as you shouldnt be takin hits, but im thinking about a full suit of rare armor, or regular if its too expensive for my 40s and up to 50. Any suggestions?

when soloing, if you're getting hit often, use medium.

in groups, use STR armor.

See i have the same question

Currently at 43 i use Pristine fulginate chain....wished it were ebon but thats waaay expensive....now for the price of an ebon coat i can have a Aug tunic/legs/sleeves/bracer....

It definitively is better than fulginate ...But am affraid to purchase only to upgrade down the line soon.......

I have a complete set of each armor and I have to say, in my opinion, medium is superior to light. I needed a second set, because some of the more difficult, multi-hour raids can be pretty taxing on one's armor. So I thought, why not make it light armor and see for myself how it performs. After comparing the performance of both, I only use the light as a backup set these days. I'll equip it for the first part of a marathon raid session (i.e. Thaen, Frogloks, etc...) so that I have my good set for the last and hardest section of the raid.

A couple of factors influence my decision. First and foremost, some of the best armor I've seen in the game, Poison Etched, is a Scout's dream; heavy in AGI and STR and Medium in weight. I don't think you'll get any arguments about this stuff being a natural fit for scouts. I should add that I'm close to completing my set and because of that, probably somewhat biased. Secondly, on these high end raid mobs, it adds value to be able to take a hit or two. The mitigation and avoidance offset numbers that I've seen, based on armor weight, strengthen the argument for medium. Even if you are skilled enough to never ever get aggro, some of these high end AE attacks are significant, and I can absorb those hits more effectively with my medium gear than I can with my light gear. Admittedly, I'm not comparing Fabled Medium to Fabled Light, but my light gear is nothing to snicker at. I feel the same about Ebon vs. Augmented as well.

Perhaps I've really only addressed any questions about armor preferences at the end game and not the 40 - 50 levels. However, I guess I just kind of prefer to consider where one will eventually end up and use that as somewhat of a guide as to what the developers really intended for our class to wear. To each his own; I go with Poison Etched Armor for the ultimate set at this point in the game.

Seymore Draco

50 Assassin - Nerfed - Oggok

Message Edited by SeymoreDraco on 06-29-2005 04:34 AM

I must ask; where does this poison etched drop? Sounds like dream armor.

More on-topic, I’m 43 currently and have been seeking to finish off my base set of equipment, less fabled gear (which I don’t want to count on getting any time soon), so I can start spending my cash solely on upgrades. I decided to go with light armor since the mitigation didn’t seem to be significantly lower than fulginate, and my first few ebon were spoken for already (piercing weapon, BBC, slashing weapon) not mentioning the sheer expense of obtaining enough. One final factor that went into my decision was the upcoming combat changes, and my reading that light armor was going to be better for avoidance than medium (cannot recall exactly where-one of Moorgard’s posts).

There’s my plan: what do you think?

Lol guys.. of course if you get that kind of high end fabled medium you should always use it. But this guy has just turned lv40 and he wants to know what kind of armor to get.. yeah sure, get poison etched pieces! throw in a cryptic metallic BP for even more pwnage!

Rare Medium > Rare Light > Common Medium > Common Light

If you have access to the ebons for cheap, or the money to be able to burn or them, then Rare Medium is the way to go. Of course, like you said, you can get 4-5 pieces of rare light for about the cost of one rare medium.

If I were you, I'd go ahead and get the rare light and then work on the fabled and rare medium as time goes by. Like one of the posters said above, its always good to have 2 sets of armor if you're going to be raiding.

Try to harvest/buy/loot an ebon. Obviously everyone has their own opinions, but sharing my humble view, it's your best bet until you get a little higher in level and can access more of the raid content loot tables. I worked really hard to get an ebon cluster and have a pristine imbued medium chain chest made with it. I wore that through my 40's until I hit 50 and I can tell you that the proc really makes a difference solo'ing. It doesn't seem like much, but some is better than none. I felt like it went off a lot too... it's worth the investment.

just my two copper...
