View Full Version : enhanced cheap shot combo :)

It just suddenly occured to me that I have never seen Numbing Strike mentioned in this forum before, but anyway... We all know the ol' cheapshot -> attk off -> stalk + move behind mob -> ebonblade trick yes? Well here's a new variation hehe: cheapshot -> attk off -> move behind mob edit2: and just beyond your normal melee range -> numbingstrike -> shroudedstrike -> ebonblade -> cloakedbarb m/ awyeah m/ super combo :smileywink: It is gonna take a lot of practice to get it right though hehe. edit: even more advanced = combine it with a solo heroic! luckybreak - cheapshot - .......... numbingstrike - ........ :smileyvery-happy:

Message Edited by Trei49 on 05-13-2005 11:21 AM

Message Edited by Trei49 on 08-12-2005 08:06 AM

root will break as soon as you hit a mob with melee dmg so you are better of following stun directly with a stealth melee attack. however you can numbing strike / attack off. back up and hit the mob with assassin's shot or deadly shot. if you get lucky and the initial dmg of the first bow attack doesn't break root, you can chain the two together. i use numbing strike this way all the time when soloing. i also use numbing strike to lose aggro. i find it more reliable than evade / attack off. i find that if i turn off auto attack just as numbing strike is landing i stand a good chance of root not breaking. similar to eq1 if root lands you can back away and the mob will immediately turn on the nearest person. however it also seems that your own auto attack will immediately break root in any situation. i prefer to not use macros for attack off but i imagine you could. so while your proposed combo won't work you are right that most folks never mention numbing strike and it's a very useful ability.

["... I'm guessing you haven't actually tried this yourself ..."] You guessed wrong :smileytongue: Yeah, even the combined-with-a-heroic one. ["... root will break as soon as you hit a mob with melee dmg so you ar ..."] Just a chance to break, like the mage roots. I haven't had many instantly break upon damage on me so far, though I never seen one last for a full 12secs either lol. ["... so while your proposed combo won't work y..."] It isn't a "proposed" combo, and it works. Try it. Use it as an opener sequence for starters if you want: Position yourself far enough behind mob to use melee arts AND ranged arts, then numbstrike -> shroudedstrike -> ebonblade -> cloakedbarb edit: my current combat opener chain in order -> vlad'sneckshot for def -5 dbf -> insidiouscut pierce+slash dbf -> vex another def -5 dbf + slash dbf -> luckybreak HOstarter -> cheapshot HOadv. + stun -> numbingstrike root + HOfinisher + pseudo-stun for... -> shroudedstrike stealth for... -> ebonblade maxed pierce dbf for... -> cloakedbarb with the occasional AM thrown in somewhere. Often brings yellow EL bears to 40% hp by the time it gets to turn around.

Message Edited by Trei49 on 05-13-2005 07:07 PM

once you hit the mob with numbing strike , it will no longer be stunned, no? so how is it you then hit it with cloaked barb since , even if rooted, it will turn to face you. i don't see how that's possible and i don't know what a pseudo stun is. what is that?

Our melee arts have quite a bit longer range that I previously thought hehe.. You can be in range to activate both melee arts and ranged ones but not your auto melee attacks. Apparently this spot is also beyond a mob's normal attack range, which somehow causes the mob to not turn around when rooted; maybe since it can't reach you and it can't move to reach you... it just do nothing. (thats what I meant by 'pseudo-stun' - its not a true stun, but it can have the same effect to a certain extent) You can test this by rooting a mob, back off 10-20m and flank it as quickly as you can at the same time. It won't track you. For now, the easiest way for me to pull it off is to just jump over the mob as usual after cheapshot, then hit numbstrike about a midsize-halfelf body length away without turning around. Maybe some of you might think its not worth the time to do, but it sure is fun for me

Message Edited by Trei49 on 05-16-2005 10:25 AM

I like that sweet spot you are talkign about as well where I cna fire off any of my combat skills as they become ready as well as keep an eye on the H.O. status for the group to make sure we keep it going and get those 4 steppers complete

I so want to believe you man. However I have tried this all night on gnolls at least 15-20 times and it has never stuck when I hit him with numbing strike... they may stay rooted but they always turn around as soon as I hit them

I have to wonder this myself... I sometimes have mobs turn around to face me as well. Even the stun effect change on alot of skills to just say target can not attack not stunned, however at 50 sounds like solo is still a decent chance using the back attack combos.

["... I so want to believe you man. They will not turn if you are beyond their melee range (or was it the other way round...?.. :smileytongue: ) . If you are talking about them turning when you hit them after they were rooted... yes the root can break, but the chance can be greatly reduced by keeping your own automelee out of range. I have been able to stand almost 1.5x normal halfelf bodylength away from targets and still pull off my combos.

[ Then you were too close to the mobs, assuming your root didn't in fact miss or get deflected...] Ahh that could be it actually.I didn't see that part in the OP and must have miss read it.. I was speaking of them turning as soon as they got rooted... making me not be able to do the second part which you listed as shrouded strike, thus nulling the entire combo. Sure I could back off and deadly shot / assassin's shot but I could do that without all the hooey .
