<DIV>i tried to add this to another thread but noone looked at it, or so it seems. Anyway. swashies have a similiar thread about swashbucklers, i was wondering if anyone could think of any assasins ( no gunpowder users please. ) from fiction or reality. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I'll start it. how about gord of greyhawk or riddick. ( i know riddick is sci-fi, but all he ever uses is those knives. ) </DIV>
<DIV>How about one of the most famous. James Bond. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

You all know him....and you all love him. He is model T800....AKA THE TERMINATOR!They don't get much more legendary than that! You have newer models, but T800 still kicked major butt.John Connor: You just can't go around killing people. The Terminator: Why?John Connor: What do you mean why? 'Cause you can't.The Terminator: Why?John Connor: Because you just can't, OK? Trust me on this.

The Jackal
Ogami Itto , the one and only!<img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
<DIV>The Jackal? As in Carlos the Jackal? While he is more a terrorist then an assasin, he was a very incompetent one. If it weren't for the fact that people did get hurt by his series of screw ups he would actually be funny. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Seriously, he's credited with being involved in the Munich olympics attack, but he didn't really emerge as a terrorist till 3 years after. This is after washing out of a Soviet terrorist school that will pass almost anyone who wants to screw with the west... (you know any rich, spoiled, college students who think becomming communists is a cool way to rebel against society? Thats good old Carl)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>His first round of attacks? Against European banks. Lets see, the first grenade was flung out by the revolving door, (no injuries), the second attack caused some minor property damage, the third injured the owner of the bank with shrapnel (he made a full recovery). Lets not forget some other famous screw ups like the attack on a french nuclear reactor (the rockes weren't strong enough to dent the protective shell). He really doesn't start killing people untill his wife gets caught. After that he can't find work in the soviet bloc, heck, event the PLO won't do business with him. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The only thing he had going for him was he hadn't been caught. That came to a close when he retired, Syria booted him out before the first Gulf War, so he hid in Sudan. Well, despite working for islamo-facist-fundamentalists he still didn't get it through his head that his rich party lifestyle was everything they hated, so they handed him over to the French. (Ironically enough he was arrested in a hospital where he was being treated for having very small assests, if ya know what I mean). He now wastes away in a french prison mostly forgetten by the rest of the world.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So please, do not try to compare him to our class, we would need a sever nerfing to equal him :smileytongue:</DIV>

<DIV>Maybe he's referring to Bruce Willis as The Jackal.</DIV>
<DIV>Mhh can t decide on one so I list my two favs</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kalam from Steven Eriksons books</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Waylander from David Gemmels books.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>from movies it would be Leon but thats a gunpoder guy again.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I would say <STRONG>Leon</STRONG>, even if he is a gunpowder user, but he is also firm with knifes <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

<DIV>The greatest assassin, or assassins if you will, are the ones you never heard about. Nor ever will. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> However, to add my two copper to this. The greatest assassins were the ninja's hands down. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> they would just as soon apply poisons to your rose garden and watch you die, not ever knowing they were there. That is the best assassin, ones that don't leave their names behind for glory. But the ones you never knew where there, or will ever learn their names. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> Tarathiel</DIV>

Waylander pwns Entreri! <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
<DIV>The weaponsmith from the Dark Elf trilogy, the one that mentored Drizzt, would probably count as a legendary assassin. Too bad I cannot remember his name at the moment.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>And this is not a particular person really, but Japanese ninjas were reknown and feared for their uncanny ability to assassinate someone.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Definitely Aretmis Entreri... if you don't know who he is read the books you won't be dissapointed.
<DIV>I'll have to second The Brother aka Achmed the Snake from the Rhapsody series...nothing like a half firbolg to cause havoc =P</DIV>
<DIV>If you've read the books, it's hands down Artemis Entreri as the best assassin around. His character was so good, it made me wish they were book staring him instead of Drizzt.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>For real life though, I would say that Hanzoi Hitori (sp) would be the best assassin around.</DIV>

The Men:Jack the RipperJohn Wilkes BoothBaron Gilles de RaisBrutus of RomeHassan El Sabbah (leader of 420 assassins)The Women:Canidia, Martina, and Lucasta of Rome (the trio of women poisoners)Toffana of ItalyVan der Linden of Leyden (confirmed assassinations of over 102 people)Those are just some of the real life examples of famous assassins that I can remember off the top of my head. If you want, there is a BIG list of infamous assassins and those famous people who were assassinated. Check it out here:<a href="http://www.brainyencyclopedia.com/encyclopedia/l/li/list_of_assassins.html" target=_blank>BIG LIST</a>You guys know the what makes an assassin an assassin by definition right? It's not that they killed people, or perhaps they killed someone for money. It's that they killed someone FAMOUS or became infamous themselves. If you are hired to kill someone not famous then you are just a mercenary at worst or a hitman at best. If you kill someone for your own agenda you are a murderer at best or a serial killer at worst. If you kill someone FAMOUS for any reason, or you become infamous through your killings you are then dubbed an assassin. A person that never killed someone famous or never got caught can not be called an assassin.<p>Message Edited by DocGiggs on <span class=date_text>01-06-2005</span> <span class=time_text>07:30 AM</span><p>Message Edited by DocGiggs on <span class=date_text>01-06-2005</span> <span class=time_text>07:31 AM</span>

Artemis is pretty awesome as well, but i dont know, Ghost from the Cleric quintet was pretty mean (Also by R. A. Salvatore). </P> <P>I mean comeon he could possess your body when ever he wanted and there was nothing you could do about it. He could make you cut your own throat, go back to his own body and watch you die without even phisically touching you. Cant get much better of an assassin then that.<BR></P>
