<DIV> <DIV>A lot has been said in regards does STR or AGI mean more where damage is concerned.  So I decided to do a quick little survey of the top 25 on the worldwide melee hit chart.  I found out that it is dominated by high AGILITY races as opposed to high STRENGTH races.  Here are the numbers:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Half Elf:  7</DIV> <DIV>Ratonga: 6</DIV> <DIV>Dark Elf: 3</DIV> <DIV>Kerran: 3</DIV> <DIV>Barb: 2</DIV> <DIV>Human: 2</DIV> <DIV>Wood Elf: 1</DIV> <DIV>Gnome: 1</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There it is.  The larger races are not represented very much at all in the large melee hits.  At the levels most of these folks are the barbarians had roughly DOUBLE the str of most of the AGI races.  Also note that there is not a single ogre or troll in the top 25.  One would think with their very high strength they would hit for a ton of damage and yet not a single one in the top 25.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>While not a conclusive survey I think it does give more weight to the arguement that AGI is more of a factor than STR is for our damage.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thoughts?</DIV></DIV>

I always thought for us it was both. Reading the manual it says STR is for damage, and then under AGI it say's it's for evading and for some chars damage output as well. I would think you would want both stats as high as possible, but you guys are higher then me.

I don't think looking at it by race gives you a clear indication of whether STR or AGI matters more. I think all your chart is showing you is that people choose high AGI races more often to make Assassins.EDIT: Going and looking at the top 20 shows that a few of them have more STR than AGI, a lot of them have them pretty close to the same, but MOST of them have way more AGI than STR. So I would say STR probably doesn't matter much, if you're an assassin.<p>Message Edited by cweaver on <span class=date_text>12-09-2004</span> <span class=time_text>09:06 PM</span>

<DIV>That chart makes total sense but the conclusions are incorrect.  First of all the core scout races are all agility based.  Ratonga, wood elves, haflings, half elves and so on that make up the scout races are all there because they offer 20+ agility for power and elves in general are just highly popular in this game.  A number of other factors also weigh heavily in the overall damage conditions like assassin's blade spell level, weapon tier/quality, what debuffs were used, the mob they hit, and also the strength.  So to say that agi > str based on a chart that gives little other information is making false assumptions.  What you need is various races, using the same weapons, spell versions, same mob and debuffs to come up with valid conclusions.  Agility though is not a modifier of damage instead its for our power.  Strength is the modifier according to the devs but from everything we have seens its a very low modifier.</DIV>

<DIV>You shouldnt belive that to much, the high hits are mor about luck then anything else. I hit harder then any under 37 on server and yet im only 33. Our skills are based on our luck and the mobs defense againt the attack. With a bard i get over 200agi and yet i never made over 900dmg with them, without a bard i got 101 agi and i hit for over 1100dmg and im a weak race, one of the weakest (DE).</DIV>

<DIV>Just my opinion from casual observation but it seems that back stab damage is tied more into skill and character level than it is to any stats or damage rating. I was using a 3-9 base damage dagger at level 22(assassin's quickblade) . I upgraded to a 5-15 damage spear as well as finished quite a few quests that greatly improved my agility and strength. That's a pretty big upgrade damage wise And guess what, my max backstab using the assassin's quickblade was the highest hit I had. The average damage seemed to stay pretty constant as well. The only things that have seemed to increase the damage on my backstabs is gaining levels and upgrading my skill level. So, just in my opinion, stats and damage ratings don't really make much difference.</DIV>

<DIV>Pssst.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Weapon damage is based on strength...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But our abilities are based on Agility.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Try it out. Equip some strength items instead of agility ones, and your Shadow Blade will actually hit for less damage. Also, weapon damage has absolutely no effect on Shadow Blade damage.</DIV>

<DIV>What you have to take into account is that more agility gives us scouts more power, more power equals more combat arts, more combat arts clearly outweights any small bonuses you would get from normal weapon hits. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

Scout dmg (as well as other classes) comes from Combat Arts not from Autoattack.

<DIV>The problem with this short survey is that right now that list is littered with power levelers - do a survery again in 2 month's when the people with jobs have had enough time to hit 50th and see how it stacks up.</DIV>
