<DIV>A friend of mine is gonna start playing EQ2 in a couple of days. He wants to be an assasin, so he asked me if any races have advantages over other races as assasins. Since i dont know this im asking all of you, if anybody can provide a good answer to his question please post it here:smileyhappy:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Grogh of Runnyeye</DIV> <DIV>Iiam Drunk of Corbantis in SWG</DIV><p>Message Edited by Snowwalker on <span class=date_text>11-29-2004</span> <span class=time_text>02:56 AM</span>

<DIV>Dark elf of course <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>on a serious note the game is designed so any race can play any class and they truly mean that. So there really is no superior race in the long run and you should just play whichever one you prefer the most. Just realize good races need to betray to freeport.</DIV>

Kerra and Half Elf are considered to be two of the best.

I wouldn't even consider good races for a new player. Betraying is very hard and should only be done by people who played the game before. So half elf... and wood elf (who i personally think has the best stats) shouldn't be considered.remains dark elf and kerra. up to his personal opinion. For sure since stats dont matter that much. So just choose what you like but as new player i would take a native freeport race.

<DIV>I picked a kerran myself. They have both a decent strength and agility. With the traits and items you can buff up anythng you want. I think at lvl 19 with some buff items I have agi 62. So you'll be able to get up there with any race.</DIV>

I am newly (and proudly) a wood elf assassin. The betrayal quest was indeed a pain, but in the long run, it wouldn't have been half as much trouble if I new where all the named mobs were EXACTLY. Pulling an orc party together in Commonlands is never hard. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> The verdict, I'm very happy with my choice of race. Wood Elves supposedly aren't too strong, but with my assassin blade/badlands stiletto, poisons, and shadowblade, the mobs aren't usually around long enough to make a call! The biggest problem with wood elf is low HP relative to other classes -- I can definitely recall when I coulda used those two extra hits!-----------------Lupyn of FreeportEverfrost

I wouldn't agree at all that any race can be good assassin, mostly yes, but I DO care about the racial ability<img src="/smilies/283a16da79f3aa23fe1025c96295f04f.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />DD There are HUGE differences between sonic vision, ultravision, infravision so pick up carefuly.Areas like willing cave/FG are very dark even with high gama using visionracial skills really helps. Stats are YES! irrelevant because later you will be on high numbers anyway and some + or -5 doesn't matter.

<DIV>As a ratonga I have less str but more agi than most others. Do I see a difference? Maybe. I tend to have more power left in a fight than assassin of other races, but this could just be attributed to my playstyle. When I often examine myself vs other assassins of equal level I usually have more hps and more power, but that could be attributed to me having better equipment.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All I can say is this. As a ratonga I hit just as hard if not harder than those big races that are assassins. I "think" I get more power and thus more attacks as I have a higher agi. I think race does matter, however, it is easily mitigated by having decent equipment.</DIV>

Any brothers from Halas? Personally I like barbarians a lot. More str for harder hits and sta for hp. Works well in many situations.

<DIV>speaking of stats, does str affect the min/max damage per blow for assassins? Or is it just agility. Curious what folks have found.</DIV>

<DIV>From my experience I have a self-buffed agi of 101 and yet my str is barely 35. At 24th level I have hit for 477 melee hit using app1 Assassins Blade using steel rapiers (5-15, 1.2 speed).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I think agi does more than str indicating damage. It might be that maybe agi effects the overall damage ceiling, but str determines avg damage per hit, but who knows.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>All I do know is I am a puny, but quick, ratonga and I have no problem dealing out massive amounts of damage.</DIV>

I share that opinion but some disagree with it.Guess only a dev can answer on this. Altho its posted everywhere that agility is the most important stat for a scout which is a dps class. But maybe it's my weird wood elf mind that makes me think that agility is important for the dps then <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />
<DIV>lvl'd a pally to lvl 21 and now are really bored, and dissapointed, i played a ranger in eq1 for about a year and a half and loved every lvl w/ him. now i allready rerolled and made a scout. im deffinatly thinking of makeing something along those lines. and i am certinly leaning towards the assasin subclass rather than ranger. thus switching it up a bit. .. my race i picked this time was a highelf mearly for the model graphix lol. as we all know basic stats dont matter much in the long run. im only lvl 5 and allready alot happier than playing my 21 wood elf pally piece of @#$ worthless poor excuse for a paper tank <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> o and i cant wait to betray and meet up w/ everyone in freeport.</DIV>

<DIV>You obviously havent had your butt kicked by a rat-onga lately have you? Being a little ratonga and out damaging all those ogres/trolls/barbarians is just beyond cool.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But to keep in line with the thread, has anyone even tried a troll or ogre assassin? I have noticed that a barbarian assassin is in the top 10 on largest melee hits, so by that standard at least they seem to be functioning just fine.</DIV>
<DIV>i was thinking of makeing a rat assasin .. but went w/ the highelf cause of his last hair style opion <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> only problem is now .. cause i wanted that hiar so bad ill have to deal w/ that **mods 4 teh win!!1!** betrayal quest </DIV>

<DIV>Ratonga are good for assassin. I wouldn't pick any other race to play an assassin. I have often been told by the groups main tank that i do to much damage and it scares him. The main key though is to know when to hold back and lessen the hate you generate. </DIV><p>Message Edited by Inomine on <span class=date_text>12-04-2004</span> <span class=time_text>04:19 AM</span>

From a pure stats standpoint Kerra then Barbarian would make the best assasins. They both have good agility so will have plenty of power and have high strength so they will hit hard.

<DIV>Barbs and Kerrans? Has it been proven anywhere that str adds to your damage for AGI based classes? I see a lot of elf and ratonga assassins on the highest melee hit boards so all that AGI must have something to do with damage as well.</DIV>
<DIV>All races ar equal so just pick the one he likes best, the biggest problems for assassins is agro couse you will get it alot unless the tank is really good.</DIV> <DIV>With good gear you will get as good stats as any other race, but as low lvl it can be a bit different. Many would sage pick ratonge they have highest agi so they are the best, well thats just pure bs so just pick the race that looks good or so.</DIV>

<DIV>Racial vision is the biggest difference between classes. With my ratonga's sonicvision I never have a problem with the dark and i dont really have a need to a light source. Also, I think that the smaller races are easier to manuver which can make a significant difference since you're constantly trying to get behind a mob and cheap shot's stun doesn't last long.</DIV>

<DIV>For me the scout class and its sub classes in all, have always been a class of access and free travel. I choose an Iksar because of the generally neutral stats, with a push in STR and AGI, some STA as well, near human attributes. I planned ahead for the traveling and exploring by choosing a race that gets an inherent enduring breath. So truly I feel I can freely explore the world quickly and safely. So race selection is more than just stats, what you want to do in the game will deterime what you want to play and enjoy for many levels.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>Just pick which race you think is the coolest. Just remember that if you pick a good race for assassin you will have to betray. betraying isn't hard just a little time consuming. and what is this stuff about wailing caves being so dark? they never seemed dark to my iksar, and he didn't even have a torch.</DIV>

<DIV>Go for looks with your assassin. Like everyone says, the stats are pretty much so close it's not worth mentioning. I don't have a dev's word on this but it seems like stats or weapons don't mean anything for computing your damage for skills. The assassin gets most of their damage from skills. I haven't parsed to get actual percentages but it seems like well over half the damage is from skills and the other 40pct or so is from regular attacks and poisons. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So, agi = more regular hits landed + more power for skills which means they're capable of more damage during a single fight. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Str = not sure how it effects total damage but probably doesn't make too much of a difference since most of the damage is coming from skills anyways. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Sta = Well, shouldn't equal much. Scouts don't tank and if they do it's against something that's not going to be able to touch them let alone do real dmg. If you happen to be in a group with a tank can't keep the agro off you this might save your life. But then again, those couple extra AGI points might have caused you to dodge a couple more blows or land a couple more hits to finish the mob off. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Oh well, who knows. I currently play a Wood elf assassin because I like how they look and their racial bonuses. You're gonna be staring at your char for several days worth of playing time, so pick something that's pleasing to your eyes or to your roleplaying tendancies. I wouldn't recommend the betrayal quest to anyone! No, in actuality it was a change of pace that I didn't entirely hate but wouldn't call a fun time. *wonders if that last part made sense* It took somewhere between 20-30 hours to complete everything and I gained lvls 15-19 during so it wasn't the worst possible thing. Anyways, g/l h/f and if you wanna play a wood elf assassin, go betray like I did and come get ridiculed by the locals in the streets of FP like I do. For some reasons the dogs don't seem to like me much <img src="/smilies/9d71f0541cff0a302a0309c5079e8dee.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> </DIV>
