So, bought my rat pet. Cost me like 14 silver off a vendor. What does it do? hmmm he will follow you around. Wont guard you, or attack on command. Kinda just sits there making little rat noises when your getting beat on by other mobs. Dont buy it IMO, unless you feel the need to waste 14 silver. I hope this is just a bug atm.. Kinda lame if not.

<DIV>i read several places that it is just for show. its one of our few novelty abilities. every class gets a few . we also get a high elf illusion at 40 or so and a shadow illusion at 50 i believe</DIV>

not meaning to derail the pet rat thread, but the guards outside qeynos wont attack you (if you're evil)once you get inside, they... sort of.. smack you around, but they dont do damage, they just throw you outside the city... someone else said they made it into the city and i was trying for 30 minutes.... maybe when we get a higher level sneak..

<DIV>I've been rolling around with another assassin lately who has the rat pet. The pet seems pretty useless but every once in a while the pet manages to get aggro. Even in EQ1 I never was a class with pets so I dunno if my buddy is using some sort of /pet taunt command or something, but just shows that they can actually do something. I prolly won't waste the money on it yet. If I wanna see a rat, I can just look at myself.</DIV>

<DIV>Hey Smeg</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Yeah I have this rat and Smeg and I were playing about with it at Owlbears in Nektulos. For anybody who cannot find the rat combat art, you can buy it in north freeport, opposite side from dark elf/ fg access quest <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. Close to the BIG tree there are 3 trainers selling skills. Rat pet is curently broken, you can buy it, cast it, it can follow, stand still, that's all, it will never attack, guard etc you. It makes some squeeking noise and it's BIG rat like rats in FG. Also it can take occasional hit from enemies so if you got high fps already np to use it as light meatshield. Hopefuly later they will fix it so it will be able to attack some<img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<DIV>I personally think we kinda get jipped in the whole level 20 special skill thing. Both Crusaders get a horse and we get a rat. Pfft.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Though I suppose some of the others are useless too.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But yeah, like some others have mentioned, it did draw aggro for me once. I was sneaking past a hostile with the rat pet out, and it aggroed on the rat. Not that it was particularly useful, since because it doesn't fight, it won't hold any aggro or anything.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Most useful thing it does is bother your friends <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV>

I have to say I am a very happy owner of my new pet rat. Yes it drove me mad a few times messing up my wooden furnitures at home, yes it cost me a few deaths saying hi to its cousin the bat in Nektulos Forest, yes sometimes it goes crazy in group and over taunt the main tank. Oh and that cleric gave me a face when I was asking him to heal my poor Gonobi...But then a lone assassin needs company at times. Alone deep in enemy territory, nothing is better than a trusty pet rat who listens and will never sell your secrets to nobody. And oh I enjoy yelling MICEEEEE while jumping onto that cute dark elf in the group...

thing is useless, only use i found for it is when soloing you can agro enemies using stalk, and they go for the rat instead of you.other than that its totaly useless, unlike the SK/Palladins horse.Wizards also get gipped too.. they get an equally useless pet cat.Wardens and furys get to turn into a wolf or a lioness respectivley, and i hear that when they do their stats slightly improve.sort the rat out! even if it just attacks for like 5dmg every 2 sec its beter than just sitting there like an idiot.Only real fun i have had with it, is sneaking into Baubleshire, going stealthed, joining the Wholesalers there and then running around the wholesalers using slipaway and watching the reaction from the gnome chars inside.. some ran away from ratty! heh was fun for a bit.

<DIV>Rat pet needs a revamp. Currently, it's garbage. I understand "fun" spells but...come on...having a horse is FUN. Having a pet rat follow you around without any function is fun for about...2 minutes...5 if you're really patient.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

I dunno - I think it's useful. I started a thread about it, but you can set up your rat to get agro when you solo. With the mob's back turned to you, you're able to do a bit more damage per fight than you normally would otherwise. Once in a great while, I can get my rat to keep agro for an entire fight - I've gotten him down to about 25% health. He takes a nice beating =)If you experiment with it a little, you might find a use for him when you solo.

The Warden/Fury spell to turn them into wolf/lion form is NOT their goofy level 20 spell. The Fury level 20 "fun" spell coats their target in glowy dust. That's it. If you think a pet rat isn't cooler than that, then you're crazy. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

<DIV>Since this is a MMORPG, I see no problem if the rat did nothing other than stand there and squeak. I find anything that helps you feel immersed in the game environment is a plus to a RPG.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>However, I am sure that SOE has something in store for the rat in the future. My guess is that the rat will occasionally taunt the mob off of you so that you can use backstabs while soloing more effectively. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The problem was the rat was probably taunting too well and being used as a meatshield, which was overpowering the class. I'm sure they are working out a way of balancing it where the rat only draws the mobs attention for a split second so you have to pay attention and backstab appropriately.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Don't hold your breath though. Enjoy the rat for what it is: a fun aspect of being an assassin that take the game a notch further. Furniture doesn't do jack either, but you still see people shelling out loads of money on it.</DIV>

the SK horse is a LOT beter than pathfinding i think you will find.what you need to outrun it is a scout with good agility, journeymans boots, and SPRINT.also the cheapest horse that you can buy at the stables for 2pp + is only as good as the lvl 20 Pally/SK horse.hmm... bit unfair if you ask me.

I used my rat down in groups in edgewater. Some of the mobs there do a random 400 point damage to the group. I found that having my pet rat out it lowers the percentage of me getting hit. There has been a few times where he has took a hit for me and even has died in my stead.

Except that the assassin rat has no additional benefit, which is exactly how it's supposed to be. The fact that the Crusader horses give a speed buff is a bug, as has been said many times over. However, if the devs were to suddenly have a change of heart and add some benefit to the fluff spells, I think it'd make more sense for the Predator pets to provide some sort of scouting capability, much like the Eye of Zomm spell from EQLive. That seems to fit better overall than having a pet rat give stat buffs.
