I've been asked this question numerous times by rangers, and I never know which way to answer because I'm still not totally sure of the affect INT has on poisons. Should rangers initially focus on mastercrafted melodic xegonite (STR, AGI, INT) or regular xegonite (STR, STA, AGI) in T7?

well it has been a few since i had to use crafted but the str/agi/int set would be choice of most rangers that had to use this how ever depending on your lvl there are some peices found off named in sos, blackscale, hof, nest that is alot better then most of the crafted. id also say look at the leather crafted set for a few peices as well as relic armor if you are of level to get n a pu raid or two. good luck on what ever you choose

I'm still wearing my pre-nerf cobalt leggings. The mitigation difference between those and the T7 rares is almost nil, plus it has some decent STR/INT stats. So until I find some T7 fabled leggings, I'll be status quo. I think I'm the only chain wearer in the guild without T7 fabled legs, lol.

So, if you have the pre-nerf cobalt, I'd stick with it. If you have the post-nerf cobalt, I'm not sure what to do. The T7 mastercrafted is pretty weak. You can get EoF treasured gear that is much better. I'm wearing some EoF treasured leather boots (Trueborn Bloodseeker Boots) that have +20 STR, STA, WIS and +972 vs magic, divine, and poison.

A full set of melodic xegonite gives a decent boost to INT, which improves poison procs, weapon procs, and Focus. (Not sure how fast skill-ups happen since EoF, but high Focus is nice for Rangers; you can completely ignore mobs that are beating on you, with minimal interrupts, while you kill a mob on the healer, or finish the one the tank currently has targetted.)

Another advantage is that you will certainly stick out in a crowd. In all the time I wore it, I only saw one other person in purple armor ... everyone else opted for the red armor (standard xegonite) and all of the scouts looked the same ... except for me and the occasional bard.

However, melodic xegonite tunic & leggings cannot be imbued, so you sacrifice two armor procs for the INT boost. (I would not try to mix melodic and imbued; you will optimize neither INT nor STA, and look like an awful mess in the process.)

I personally chose full melodic for T7 and was quite happy with the choice until I replaced it with fabled & legendary gear. In fact, I still keep my melodic in my inventory as backup gear. I rarely missed the armor procs lost by not having the imbued pieces, but others may feel differently.

So unless the ranger really wants the imbued armor procs, or needs the STA more than INT, I'd recommend a full set of melodic over other flavors of xegonite chain.
