View Full Version : Training Safe Fall?

How should I go about increasing my Safe Fall skill? I'm new to EQ2 rangering, and just hopping off of things doesn't seem to do it (except once I jumped off a ledge in the Elddar Grove, near a waterfall, and died instantly... no Safe Fall gain, but it was the first time I sustained damage from falling, and it was rather strange as it was no higher than any other ledge from which I'd plunged to a perfectly secure and painless landing). So what is the trick to gaining skill in Safe Fall without dying?

You'll need to get it up over 100 or so (use the griffon towers), then go the the mage tower in South Qeynos. Start with the lowest portal (I think it's the one on the right as you go in the tower). Go in the portal, jump off...and keep on, working your way to the highest portal, This is easiest because there's no running to get back to you jump-off point. Jump..take a step..jump...boring as heck, but is very efficient. You should be able to max it out in a couple of hours.

Safe fall got slightly more tricky since the falling damage update in EOF, nonetheless, I have had success jumping down from Kelethin.

I am at 280/350 and the only place I can get a skill up is SQ tower from the hgihest point. I even went to Sol Eye once and jumped all the way down from the top walkway to Nagafen's walkway. One thing about Kelethin is that not all the ground is level. I can still get points at 300+ safefall but it matters where you jump and where you land.

Safe Fall is really beginning to irritate me. I've gained three points in it so far, and all three times I had to die to gain that point. I jumped off the griffon tower about twenty times without gaining a point (and usually without damage, there's apparently ONE PIXEL on which I can land and take damage and thus, I guess, have a chance at gaining Safe Fall skill). I jumped off the tree in the Elddar Grove, and once nothing happened, and once I died and gained a point. I found a small cliff in Antonica from which I could jump and take damage, did that about twenty times, and only gained a point the one time I overshot and died.Is there any way to gain Safe Fall at low levels without dying? It only seems to happen about a third of the time even then, so I can see myself racking up an XP debt it would take six weeks to undo before maxing out the skill. :smileymad:

The problem with training safefall now is the fact that there are new mechanics which make it so that if you fall less than a certain distance you take no damage, then alot of damage if you exceed that. It didn't always use to be this way. You can use the ramp in the commonlands to train safefall as you can go up the ramp as far as needed before falling, hope that helps.

If Glide suspends in combat, could you engage a MoB that will take a long time to kill you and then start jumping off cliffs? I was going to suggest getting into a duel, but realized you would leave the combat circle ...

Bounce!I've found, just like in EQ1 for those of us who had monks there, that bouncing down a cliff tends to get me more safe fall skill ups than just freefalling. Now it's tricky. You don't want to jump jump. You want to sort of tumble down, so you take damage, but not too much damage, and you get a lot of contact with the cliffside. I haven't tried it as much since the fall changes, but it did still seem to be working last time I went to work on safe fall.

The sides of the Halls of Fate Isle in the Bonemire work well for the method Gwyneth suggested. Also instead of relying on a mystic to give you free movement in the water you can use a Gnomish Floatation Device (equipaple at lvl 5 Throw on a Rebreather (equipable at lvl 49) and you are set.

I trained the last 50 or so of my safe fall pts on the isle of the ravasect in the bonemire. There is a cliff to the left there, if you are looking away from the dock, that is up a ways past the epics spawns kinda right above one of the undead towers. You can invis and jump off as long as ya want. And get a little hunting in when the mood strikes ya.

Brega, 70 Ranger Test Server

There is also an adornment for cloaks that reduces falling damage. I found it invaluable in training up safefall

I am at safefall 280 and have not had a skill up in probably over 6 months. I think it is broken. I have fallen to my death many times trying to get a skill up and with 280 in safefall that is a very long fall. I don't get skill up in SQ tower anymore and I rarely take damage jumping from Kelethin. I have stopped trying as there is obviouslly something wrong with it and 280 protects me from most falls anyways.

Strange.. My safe fall is stuck at 275 and I havent had a skill up in months. The red portal in SQ mage tower is too low, I dont get skill ups. The yellow portal is too high, I die every time. Is there anywhere in between? I sure havent found it yet! Or else the skill up is completely broken

It's been about six months now for me too. I'm stuck at 230. Spent 2 hours in the mage tower a while back jumping. Took damage each time, yet nothing.

If your dieing in the mage tower get an adornment for a cloak. The T5 one reduces damage by 25% and the T6 by 30%. That should be enough to keep you alive from the fall from the yellow platform at your level. It is just that it takes a lot more jumps at that level to get a skillup. You will be jumping for hours to max up lol.

Hours? It's broke right now. Thousands of jumps so far without a skill-up. And I'm not dying. Taking damage, but not dying.

I've gotten two to five level ups in a row while out in Antonica. From 90-100, it only took me 30 minutes while jumping off the North side of the spires in NQeynos by the griffon tower.

With pathfinder, I could run up the steep hill faster.

While in the Tower though, I don't seem to get any or it takes an hour to get 1 point. I'm only at 112, so I should still be leveling up fairly quicky. I still have to use the ledge before ground and I take some 300 points of damage so I hve to stop and wait every so often anywys.

I seem to get more levels if I take damage instead of just the system message.
