<DIV>When befriend animal breaks after 24 minutes does the mob then attack you like when coercer charm breaks or does the animal just wander away or despawn?</DIV>

It turns on you just like a Coercer's charmed pet does.Edited to add: The easy way around this is to park the pet in a safe spot before the charm expires then get yourself as far away from it as you can.<p>Message Edited by Mronin on <span class=date_text>11-21-2006</span> <span class=time_text>09:33 AM</span>

Just a guess... but if you have been manipulating your friend for the last 25 min to do all of your grunt work, it's gonna be a bit peeved at you.  =D  So my guess is that it will become aggro once it charm breaks.

How stable is it? does it break every minute or so, or tend to last the full 24 minutes most times?

<DIV>To add to what Mronin said, I'd use it in conjunction with  thorny trap.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Park the animal a distance away, set trap between both of you, break (or have duration run out), and do what you want with it from there. :smileyhappy:</DIV><p>Message Edited by Pharly on <span class=date_text>12-18-2006</span> <span class=time_text>07:29 AM</span>

<DIV>yes it turn aggro once charm break, however your expet will be mesmerize for some secs. That gives enough time to snare/root and or recharm it. When charm is breaking your screen will be flashing yellow, warning you that you lost control.</DIV>

Can anybody tell me, which animals can be charmed and which not? Is there a restriction to non enhanced (^^^) creatures?<div></div>

<P>For Befriend animal. Its strictly animals. Beasts. Spiders, Bears etc...I'm currently 63 and the only zone I was able to find usable pets was in Loping Planes. That made it useful. However, the only time you can stealth really is before combat. So don't plan on having a pet that will just hold aggro while you use your best abilities. Of course, if I had this earlier on in my levels, you could probably find other places with animals. I know I ran around Solusek's Eye with a 48^^^ While finishing up some Heritage quests. So I'm sure at lower levels you can find useful zones with animals. Useful is the key word. </P> <P>Again though, stealth breaks with a pet attacking so don't plan on wanting to bring him to a group if you plan on pumping out some major dps. The only abilties I was able to use stealthed were melee stealthed attacks, but you have to be quick. The cast timers are fast so those may work at times.</P> <P>Now here is the problem I had with the Charm Pet ability. Besides the very strict guidelines of what an Animal is, It rarely lasted 24 minutes. Even Pets of equal level. Maybe it was just me. Don't get me wrong, you can chain solo like no ones business with a pet. It really does make killing easier. But...let me warn you, I got more debt from solo with a pet, then I did solo without. They just broke charm way to often. Being in the middle of combat and having  2 mobs beastie on you is not fun. Especially in Loping planes where aggro is everywhere. I've since dropped the ability and just gone back to what I did before. It is useful don't get me wrong. </P> <P>A mob standing on top of a shiny that you want, no problem, sick the pet on em and harvest it. If you want to change it up a bit, go for the pet. Just gets tough to find one so far at high levels (outside of LP). Just find a dedicated tank if you don't want to go the pet route. They work just like pets, let them get beat down while you burn the mob. If they die you just evac =D. Thats what I do with my Pally brother (Dwarves make great pets.)</P>

Thanks for the answer.I really like the idea of an animal (especially a bear or a wolf) accompanying my ranger, but after your post I'm not shure if it is worth spending this much achievement points. Furthermore I have to follow not the most useful arm of the ability-tree to get this feature. If I understood you right, the greatest problem is, that the charmed animal breaks surprisingly and mostly before the 24 minutes ran out. Isn't it possible to simply charm the animal again, or is the recast timer to slow (btw. what recast timer does this ability have?)? The best way to avoid this mess would be to charm a neutral animal (on the condition you can find one). Is it possible to change zones while having a befriended animal? After what you wrote, I guess not, but just to be shure...To abandon the stealth attacks is not so hard, as long as the animal can hold aggro and I can use my bow. So the question is, how good can the pet hold aggro? Just in case I don't have a runty dwarf at hand <span>:smileyvery-happy:</span><span></span><div></div>

<DIV>For the recast, its instant. so you can recast anytime. Its a long recast though, if the mob is by itself, really its not a problem. With our hp's the way they are, even with great avoidance and some decent gear, I still got beat down, but you can do it. If you are in the middle of combat, don't even waste your time. Just run away. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you change zones, the animal is gone. The cool thing about it is...and this really isn't so cool, if you call home or zone and there is someone afk there, they won't make it lol. The pet will aggro them when you are gone.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>The pet can hold aggro fairly well. Just come in slow on the dps. Start out with the hard stealthed attacks, then dump on the pet. And slowly burn it down. Have ignorant bliss to help with keeping the aggro down. Its not a bad ability, they just need make some minor adjustments to pet breaking, and stealthing.</DIV>
