<DIV>Hello everybody.<BR><BR>I just recently started playing the game again since EoF came out. I have a level 69 defiler, but i didn't spend much time chatting with higher level rangers, so i haven't exactly looked for any "great" advice. That is why i am come here.<BR><BR>Can anyone tell me how the DPS of a ranger compares to that of an Assasin around the same gear type? Or how their DPS compares to that of a rogue of the same level / gear type. I understand they all do damage in a different fassion, that is, rangers gain a large amount of DPS through the bow. Also, how are the rangers soloability throughout the levels? I just created a Fae, and i'm having a ton of fun with my ranger, but i don't want to be a completely useless class to a raid or group.<BR><BR>Having said that, Thank you all very much in advance to taking time out of your schedules to answer my ...hopefully fairly simple question.<BR><BR></DIV>

<DIV>This is just my experience.  Ranger's DPS is about 20% less than an Assassin's, 10% less than a Swashie's, and about 10% higher than a Brigand's.  Brigands have some great debuffs though.</DIV>

idk much about raid dps, but i do know that once you learn how to kite, soloing is very effective.

<DIV>62 Ranger here.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you take the time to really learn the class, you will find your heaviest hits come from your Bow.  Always have the best you can get, and add in poisons for that added punch.  I have found in raids, Rangers can cause agro issues if they open up with their main DPS shots to early. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As for Armor, you will want your avoidance as high as you can get it.  You want to avoid being hit if at all possible.  Rangers have a glass jaw at times. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You will also want a good poison/debuff combo for your weapons.  I use a triple threat that stacks.  Dot/Slow/debuff Mittigation.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>If you work at getting app4/adp3, your bow shot pulls could almost end the fight before the mob arrives.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just my 2 cents worth.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>thanks a lot for the replies guys, i really appreciate it. They were all very helpful. My new main concern is...A) am i going to be dishing out ALL of my cash on arrows and poisons? I'm thinking about either making an alchemist...to make my own master poisons..or a woodworker to perhaps make arrows for myself, would either of these be a good idea?<BR><BR>Thanks very much!<BR><BR></DIV>

<P><FONT face=Verdana size=2>70 Ranger here.. I enjoy the soloing of the Ranger Class. And your main DPS will come from the bow... about 3,800 - 4,800 hp x 2 as an opening shot.... follow that with a Stun shot you have time to fire another set before the Mob even gets close. If you also use the Trap, then as you run backwards, still firing, you root the Mob / Group in the trap, and use your AoE ranged...  thats another 2,500 off each in the group... </FONT></P> <P><FONT face=Verdana size=2>Rangers are a great class and in the Raid situation they have massive DPS...  Use the Ranger to Pull that Epic x 2 then transfer the aggro to the next blow..  normally the MT's bow, allowing you to get behind the Mob and do what you do best... RIP and Slash... ;7)</FONT> When you find that sweet spot behind the Mob, where you can use all of your attacks, Ranged and Mellee, slipping into stealth a dealing major truama to the Mob, slowing and stuning.....   If you like a skillful Class, with plenty of movement and fast action, great soloing and never have a problem looking for a Raid Group....  Ranger..</P> <P>Yoemi</P>

<P>In a raid setting, you need a great bow and the right group and the best arrows you can get.</P> <P>I didn't have a problem with arrows once I had master1 summoning.  At less than that, I had to buy arrows regularly.</P>

<DIV>Ranger's DPS has potential, but you have to be on the ball. We have to typically work harder for our numbers than the other scouts in raids. If your talking groups, rangers can perform just fine as long as you can click :smileyhappy:. In raids, you always wanna find that "sweet spot" your just close enough to use your melee CA, but just far enough to use bow  auto attack and bow CA. You also dont wanna miss or delay any auto attacks, since bows typically are 7 second delay (or shorter if your using the rangerbane....shortbows). Short bows dont work too well with bow CA timers due to the faster nature of them, delaying the shots can add up and hurt your DPS in the long run.</DIV>

Granted I've only raided once since EoF, but I did manage to top the DPS charts every now and then. I can't believe I was out runng a Necro, Conjuror, AND an Assassin. It was a really good balance between the four of us.<div></div>

Speaking of runing backwards, Am at work  <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> but has running backwards been nerfed like it has for mounts?  Ie., slower?

<DIV>No, if you get off your mount, you can still run backwards just fine.</DIV>

Well the Ranger can be broken into three categories: Solo, Group, and RaidSolo: We solo great on solo mobs. We can probably kill solo mobs faster than most every other class besides a wiz or warlock. Most solo mobs are dead before they reach us. Soling is hard until you are around 28 when you start getting more bow attacks. By the time you are level 50, killing solo mobs is cake.Group: We own in groups. Our DPS is probably the highest in groups because we do a ton of upfront damage with great hate reduction. We can spam through all of our attacks and the fight is usually over by the time we reach the last couple of melee CAs.Raiding: We fall way short. Brigand, Swashies, and ASsassins can all parse higher than us, and will if they are well played and similarly geared. A tightly played Ranger can parse consistently between 1100-1500 DPS depending on mobs. This is versus a assassin, swash, and brigand who can go 1300-1800 depending on mobs (this is with similar gear). In conclusion, if you like the idea of a Ranger continue to play. If you like grouping and soloing contuinue to play. If you are playing only for end game viability and raiding, the ranger might not be the class for you. Most raiding guilds are not accepting rangers apps anymore because you don't need more than 1 or 2 (if any) and most guilds have already fulfilled that requirement.<div></div>
