View Full Version : Focus Aim Bugged?

<DIV>Noticed something last night whilst raiding Chel Drak.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Clearing the trash up to him, and since they're only groups of yellow heroics, I'm doing my normal trick of starting in stealth, hitting Focus, then Selection and Rain of Arrows to knock up as many AE crits as I can before running in circles begging the tank to get aggro back. I try it on the first lot, but when I hit Selection I get the message "you must be in stealth to use this!". Bummer, thought I was... OK, must have copped an AE or something. Better luck next time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>But no. Happens again, same message. Third time, I pay closer attention, and sure enough Focus Aim is breaking my stealth. This is before I've engaged anything by the way. I know it'll break it if you're already in combat and try to sneak then focus. That's why I've always done it this way by starting out in stealth mode...</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So was this just me? Please tell me this is some pre-patching bug and not a fixed change... I don't want to lose any more of that 10 seconds having to cast a stealth...</DIV><p>Message Edited by Lesca on <span class=date_text>11-16-2006</span> <span class=time_text>07:53 AM</span>

I'm not 100% on this, but, after seeing what happened with Hawk Dive, it's probably intended.... <strike>You know, because it's not fair to people on pvp</strike> Oh, wait, nm, they said they wouldn't change PvE due to PvP... Must be a bug <span>:smileytongue:</span>*wavehand*There is no focus aim**/wavehand*<div></div>

Just checked on Beta, works as it used to with Focus not breaking stealth.<div></div>

<P>Fingers crossed on 'unintentional' then. We'll see how it (and the aforementioned Hawk Dive) pan out once EoF hits live.</P> <P>Good thing too. You can rack up near on 4K DPS with that little combo on the heroic worms group in DT - it's my one chance in the raiding week to stick it to the Assassins. And Wizards... And Zerkers... And... <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>

<P>Been like that for over a month .. at least in Chel'Drak's instance.</P> <P>Another thing, you need to also be in stealth (does not include Surveillance or Longblade CA lines, but the default "scout stealth" CA .. cant remember name) before engaging, then hitting Focus Aim to remain in stealth.. then fire off Selection. It's a one off sequence per encounter. Once engaged (in any encouter) you cannot enter Stealth and hit Focus Aim without breaking stealth to fire off Selection. </P> <P>However, (and no idea why this is the case) some instances like Chel'Drak and 1-2 other areas i've noticed in recent times (cant remember which) that this sequence does not work. There's definetly a bug somewhere around this. There should be no reason why it works in most zones/instances/encounters yet fails to work in a few.</P> <P> </P> <P> </P> <P> </P>

<P>It's not a bug and it's been like this since I can remember. It broke your stealth because you were considered to be in-combat. Focus only leaves you in stealth if you use it while not in-combat. Check your group and see who can drop you into combat mode even if you haven't attacked. There are several skills other classes have that can drop you into combat without you attacking. I haven't raided on my ranger in a long time and can't remember them but I can guarantee Focus broke your stealth because of something someone else in your group did that dropped you into combat mode.</P> <P> </P>
<P>I'm too slack to use focus aim with selection i'd rather use it with rain of arrows then devitalizing arrow confounding and tripple volley. Tbh i try and get off as many CA's with focus aim as i can and so going into stealth a burden on my 10seconds as it normally breaks.. I chose M2 selection so i may give that a go. BUt as for parse Lesca you should be 2nd just behind the assasin in the right group. I know in our raids it goes Ranger assasin ranger(me) i'm not as good as the other ranger lol and then swashy.</P> <P> </P> <P> </P> <P> </P>

<DIV>If I start out in stealth before engaging, I can get off Selection, Rain of Arrows and a Triple Volley all within the space of Focus Aims' 10 second duration. So they generally crit and knock up some nice numbers. That is with Poise, of course. As a rule, I parse just behind the Assassin. Some fights I'll beat him. Sometimes our Wizards nuke the **** out of everything and do insane numbers. I'm always right up there though. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> A large portion of the time I'm raidleader and MA as well, and still manage to parse top two / three, so I'm happy with what I'm doing. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Seems to be working fine again though, so might well just be Chel's instance that screwed it up. It's <EM>never</EM> done it for me in any other zone unless I manage to stuff it up off my own back (it's been known), and I've been raiding for a long time now...</DIV>
<DIV>Lecsca i'll try it out next time we raid chel i've always been too busy finding my water breath earing or trying not to zone out so i normally slack real nice on those first mobs and save my energy for mr Chel himself.</DIV>

Cheers. Be interesting to see whether it is just that zone... Bit weird if it is and beggars the question of 'why?', but I've learned not to ask that kind of question anymore. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />

I had to stop becuase I was pulling aggro about 20% of the time I opened with this combo. I would love to go back to it becuase it gave me some insane numbers. How do you do this without pulling aggro? BTW, my rain and selection are both masters, triple is AD3, and all my de-aggro self-buff is also a master. Also, I'm still using Grizz with T7 ammo.<BR>

Then focus, etc. I rarely get agro that way (it gives the tank a few extra seconds to taunt).</div><p>Message Edited by Teksun on <span class=date_text>11-15-2006</span> <span class=time_text>09:32 AM</span>

How do I not pull aggro? One word: Paladin. <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P> <P>In all seriousness, when I have Amends on me, I can pretty much blast the crap out of things and not get aggro. Granted once or twice it's resulted in a messy Wildorf (Pally) death where I got a bit too over-enthusiastic and he ended up with angry mobs on him... And if I've not got him there sometimes I can end up as a greasy spot on the floor. But it works out, since he offtanks a lot and reckons Rangers are good for a continual stream of aggro through Amends, rather than the burst damage of say a Wizard.</P> <P>But yeah. Get a Paladin and then try it. It does indeed give you looney tunes numbers. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></P>
