<DIV>Hi guys,</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Like the title said, I am new to EQ2, started playing about a month ago and went for a Ranger.</DIV> <DIV>It appealed to me to be a Tier 1 DPS character and I loved the fact that I could do ranged DMG. </DIV> <DIV>I am level 22 now and so far it was pretty cool. At first, I only had 2 ranged attacks and all the rest were melee, so I was a bit surprised since i found myself meleeing more than shooting arrows (soloing that is).</DIV> <DIV>Later on, I got more ranged attacks and right now, I think that I have 5 ranged attacks, 1 of them is from stealth.</DIV> <DIV>Right now, I am a bit frustrated with my Ranger since when soloing, I can't utilize all my ranged attacks when attacking a monster. I'll explain: it takes a lot of time for each ability to execute, so by the time I fire my second (sometimes third) attck, the monster is on top of me and I have to melee. Now at lvl 22, the monsters hit much harder so it's difficult for me to melee without dying.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When I group, I have the leisure of standing away and firing my bow but once I complete a cycle of all my ranged attack, I just keep standing there, doing nothing for long seconds waiting for my attacks to refresh... I was expecting that while teh ranged attacks are refreshed I could of at least keep firing regular shots but that happens once every 7 seconds or so...</DIV> <DIV>So I have to run in again and melee and then run out again and shoot my bow and so on... is that the way a Ranger is supposed to be played? running in and out all the time? Am I doing something wrong here?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My gear is very good, I have all ad1 and ad3 CAs so my damage is not a problem, but again, when I solo and teh monster is on top of me I am not doing a lot of dmg because my melee skills are not that great and when groupd, I have very long times for my ranged abilities to refresh.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Any help would be apreciated because I want to keep playing my Ranger and want to learn how to play him properly.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks all <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Hum, I'm still new like you are so probably not the best reference, but one thing I have noticed that would be easy to over look, especially if you spent alot of time grouping for awhile, is that Avoidance gets shot to pieces if your parry/defense skill etc isn't within like 2 or 3 of your cap.. I mean its a HUGE hit...which could be a reason why you are getting pounded in melee <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> being that you are higher than me, all I can say is, i only have those 2 ranged CAs, so yes, i run in and out all the time <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><div></div>

Also, get at max range and open up with your high damage attack. You will get a snare later on that will let you get more shots off before the mob reaches you. Don't forget your root. When they reach you root them step back and fire another ranged CA in their face. Soloing is hard as a ranger and even harder at your level.</font></div> <div> </div> <div>When I group, I have the leisure of standing away and firing my bow but once I complete a cycle of all my ranged attack, I just keep standing there, doing nothing for long seconds waiting for my attacks to refresh... I was expecting that while teh ranged attacks are refreshed I could of at least keep firing regular shots but that happens once every 7 seconds or so...<font color="#ff3300">Ranged auto-attack is really only used extensively on raids. At your level, dont wait for ranged auto-attack. Use all your ranged CAs then cycle through your melee CAs.</font></div> <div>So I have to run in again and melee and then run out again and shoot my bow and so on... is that the way a Ranger is supposed to be played? running in and out all the time? Am I doing something wrong here?<font color="#ff3300">You need to stand in the sweet spot. At the sweet spot, you can do both melee and ranged attacks without moving. It is different on each mob but in awhile you will get the hang of it. You definately dont want to be wasting time running in and out.</font></div> <div> </div> <div>My gear is very good, I have all ad1 and ad3 CAs so my damage is not a problem, but again, when I solo and teh monster is on top of me I am not doing a lot of dmg because my melee skills are not that great and when groupd, I have very long times for my ranged abilities to refresh.<font color="#ff3300">Make sure you are using cheap shot/stealth CA/back stab combo. Also use your root and snare to get distance. Also, drop into defensive stance when they get to you. You might want to go sword and board as well. Liek I said soling as a ranger at that level is hard.</font></div> <div> </div> <div>Any help would be apreciated because I want to keep playing my Ranger and want to learn how to play him properly.</div> <div> </div> <div>Thanks all <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div> <div> </div><hr></blockquote></div>
