<DIV>First let me me say Hi to my fellow rangers</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Now with that out of the way i need some advice and instruction. A bit of background. I played EQ at the start was a Pred for 19 lvl then left the game.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I came back when the PvP servers open lvled a wizard to 62 and sold him as I played on Vox and left the game again.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>After the wonderful look of EoF and some found memories of orginal EQ i thought this would be a great time to try it again and I chose Vox to return to.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I quickly picked up a lvl 52 ranger. I have all lvl 52 Pristine Imbued armor and bow and weapons.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have no idea how to use this toon LOL.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I have been slowly learning the skills and trying to figure the order i should pull with but I cant seem to figure out how to kite or continuously use ranged attacks. The AA line prechoosen for me was Str and I am into the 3rd AA. I dont think I have many masters I will check. Sorry if this isnt detailed enough. Can you fine people help me with how to pull decent lvl mobs ( heroic or named) of equal lvl or so. I got mowed down by green lvl 47 heroic giants over and over til frustration set in and I left to fight regualr mobs.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I wont give or in. If it cant be done I am capable of learning it i just need soem nudging in the correct direction and some advice on where and what to hunt.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I thank you much for any help</DIV>

Other than that, since you had decent gear, check what poisons you should use.... Also work on your tactics with green solo mobs (not heroics, they will wipe you as you said, if you dont know how to take em).Once you learn efficient methods of killing mobs, work your way upwards, also learn how to deal with multible mob encounters etc...Theres really no shortcut here i think, reading advices and tips wont make you a good ranger, you will have to learn how to play it yourself. And i can tell you, i had to learn how to play also when i came back from a 6 month break... (played since launch, then break short before KoS launched). ++Xan

He plays on Vox; a station exchange server.<BR>
<P>I'm just asking if "picked up" means "purchased." I assume so, since he follows by saying he has no idea how to play a ranger.</P> <P>And yeah, I know Vox is SE. Even if it's legal, my personal opinion is that buying toons is lame. I'm not going bash anyone for doing so, but I'm not going to spend my time helping someone who basically wants the Cliffs Notes version of "How to Play a Ranger," either. That's just standing on the shoulders of giants - other people did the work, and you want to benefit from that. </P> <P>Those of us that played from 1-70 worked hard over a long period of time to learn the class ourselves, and personally, I'm not inclined to try and give a crash course to people who aren't interested in putting in a similar effort. Any of the long-time members of this forum know that I'm happy to help people starting out or leveling up, but this is a different story, IMO. </P> <P>And this is just me, my principles and opinion. I'm not knocking anyone for buying a toon; it doesn't hurt me in any way. Nor am I going to discourage anyone else from helping him if they feel like it - it's their time to spend how they please. </P>

<P>Sorry to offend you good sir. I played a Ranger err. Pred at the start of EQ2. I also played and supported this game during the opening of the PvP servers playing til lvl 60+ with my wizard. I decided to change sides recently to the overmatched Qeynos side and wanted to jump back in to a lvl closs to my previous area of the game. So I picked up your illustrious class. I dont mean to offend you but I didnt want to start back at the begining of the PvP server where I am not able to server my team very well nor find people my lvl to progress thru the game with.</P> <P> </P> <P>I was just looking for some advice as to the order of my hotkeys , which skills to use and which were useless or situational etc.</P> <P>Maybe where to hunt for my lvl and what neat things to lookforward to or try. I have spent A LOT of time scouring these forums the internet, Rangers Glade etc etc etc and just could find a good source. I never ment to come here to offend anyone or cause trouble. Sorry if thats whats happened. </P> <P>One last note playing and buying or selling on a server like VOX lets someone re-enter the game after some time has passed (i.e. like myself) and still playing some old friends and catch up in a hurry. Its not all Plat farmers exploiters, people looking for the easy way out.</P> <P> </P>

<DIV>Ill help you. I came back after a long absence, and it was a lot tricker this time.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You have at your disposal these to use for kiting effectively:</DIV> <DIV>culling the weak/heard/etc</DIV> <DIV> a leg shot, (snare) </DIV> <DIV> a root (looks like a piece of armour icon) </DIV> <DIV>a true snare (weapon shot no damage, in 70s i have vines)</DIV> <DIV>RED High damage 1 shot poison</DIV> <DIV>BLUE snare poison, </DIV> <DIV>PURPLE -agi poison, </DIV> <DIV>even con arrows </DIV> <DIV>heal potions</DIV> <DIV>str potions</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You also have high dam spells that are only cast invis, you can use to start in most instances.</DIV> <DIV>I usually use sniper, a hiddens shot or culling the weak (culling should still have a snare effect also)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Start with culling the week, then leg shot. then your other cas as needed. (including debuff ca's)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Mob will come real slow because you have the above poisons on, which proc and snare, and stacks. Use your personal snare, vines (in 70s other name lower) to bring him to almost a complete stop. I don tuse this one till it gets really close, and you want to try to space them out so that you keep the mob running slow. Your root root/stun is used when everything else fails and he is inclose. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>When kiting, ca's actually arent that great, but your auto attack with a longbow and good arrows hits very hard, procs your poison alot, and it allows your CA's more time to pop back up. Your trap spell is a life saver when you get it. Its very handy for when things get out of control.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Done right, you will not get hit very much, but when you do, use a HOT heal over time potion, and snare/root it again, and cycle your slowing ca's as they pop up.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Contrary to popular belief, each fight will be totally different, as your procs are very random, and it will get very expensive. Dont expect to kill more than 3-4 hard mobs, before something goes terribly wrong and you escape/die.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Kiting on uneven ground can be very helpfull, like on mountains, as sometimes the mountains will make the mob take strange routes to get to you.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Start with a 1 up green, they wont hit hard, but will give you some good practice. (At least till the next patch then a 1 up greeen is going to hand people their [Removed for Content] again)</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Save your root;/stun for when they are in your face, thats the best advice. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Like I said, what you do with your money and your time is your business - not mine, and your choice to buy a character on an SE server doesn't hurt me in the slightest. I don't think any less of you b/c you bought your toon at 52, and I can completely understand your reasons for doing so. I just have a strong opinion on Station Exchange and this is one facet of that opinion. I know it's not a popular one, and I'm fine with that. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /> So don't sweat it, you're not causing any trouble at all. Good luck on Vox.
