Ichorstrand - OOPS

<DIV>Ok I mentioned in another thread I luckily got the Ichorstrand Bow which makes the T8 ammor and it has a higher damage than my old Grizzfazzles... I was very very happy to get it especially for the ammo! Paired with a higher damage rated long bow I'd be in heaven!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>BUT wait. I keep getting 800, 850, 790, 900 final parses with a maximum short burst of about 1050 and <STRONG>I am tearing my hair out</STRONG>!</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Here I am with a better bow with better ammo and I am parsing at LEAST an average of 400 below where I should be parsing with the setup I am in. I'm trying poisions, I am double checking my buffs, I am checking ACT to see if quick shot is broke. I cannot figure it out! ARGGHH. Also as I see the damage going off over the mobs head it looks small and see very few crits.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Then ona  hunch I switch back to Grizzfazzles. My parses went up to 1100, 1200, etc with one group encounter at 1500.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>BINGO the bow is bogus.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I could bore you with the parses but it's not neccesary. The difference is immediate and profound using Ichorstarnd I was always 5 and 6 in the parse or so. <DIV>That bow is wanted only for its ammo IMO. Stick with a longbow with high top-end damage. Even with summoned ammo my "Ghostly Bow of Bylze" can crit auto attacks of 5k with capped STR. I personally used the Snew Wrapped until I got Sarnak. Had Ichorstrand well before I had Sarnak and it only got equiped to summon arrows, and went right back in the back. Grizzles never came out of my bag after I had the Snew Wrapped.

I could have had the Wurm Destroyer months ago but passed it up cause I didn't want to spend my precious dkp on it. ( Notpriously cheap Ranger here)</P> <P>Ichorstrand however is broken. Asa  matter iof fact I would bet you that adamantine summoned arrows on a mastercrafted imbued ebony bow would have a higher damage rating... the thing is so messed up.</P> <P>Anyhow jazzed that i get the ammo and it helps on the old Grizzfazzles. <P>Ichorstrand isn't broken or bugged.  You can say the combat system is bad or flawed but based on the system in place it is doing the damage expected.  The DR on a weapon is only one factor on how good it is.  And it's not even the main factor it's a secondary one.  Weapon delay is still king in this game and until they revamp the combat system it'll remain that.</P> <P>Any ranger using a shortbow with a fast delay no matter what the DR is just asking to do bad DPS.</P> <P> </P>

Its the gap between the lowest hit and the highest hit that is far more important, the larger the gap the better. This is because of the mechanics of how crits work, i.e. max damage +1 as a minimum, therefore even if you crit on a low damage shot you will still hit for at least max damage+1. This can add a huge amount of extra dps.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>so 2 equal delay bows one with damage say 1-600 and the other with 200-500(which would have the same dr rating), then in the long run the 1-600 will hit for a lot higher dps depending on your crit % than the other.</DIV>
