When I was like level 15 or so I "discovered" Blackburrow. I was a group baby, never did much of anything alone, and our group had never been in there yet. So, I'm wandering around invised thinking how cool this place was. At the time I don't think there was another soul in there. I made it down to the room with the named tactician who could see through invis.... who also saw me. I spun around and ran out of there, training every gnoll in the zone. I can't believe I lived through that, but was sort of fun.

The big thing back when I started as a ranger was to get an upgrade on your stealth spell so that you could get through your ranger subclass quest. It was a fairly frustrating class quest. What is funny is I did like 5 or 6 subclass quests and the ranger was without a doubt the toughest one of them for me. I digress, anyway before reading about upgrading your stealth on these forums, I had no idea I could even upgrade my spells. I was still up in my mid-20s before I made any real effort to do so.

Man, I had the best time reading these Noob Memoirs!!! The EVAC story had me LOL!

Well here's my story:

First off, this is the first and only game I have ever played (aside from Mario Bros.). Well, my BF got this game and was instantly glued to the computer. So one day while he was at class I decided to turn this box on and see what was so darn attention absorbing. (Gawd..why did I have to be so curious?? :smileytongue: ) So I started out at the character select screen and spent an hour making a pretty, pretty half elf! I was like man, this is pretty cool! (I mean, what girl doesn't like playing with dolls, eh? j/k) So I decided to see what happens next - so I picked a name (Ciarra, in case you didn't know) and headed out to adventure. I had seen the boat ride intro when BF started the game, and I really had no idea what was going on - but I sure thought I did! When the dragon came and attacked the boat - I was SCARED! lol (I'm so glad I was home alone, or I would have never lived down the humiliation of hollering at the dang monitor)

I finally did make it to the island, and what a pretty place it was! Until I was told to go kill a Goblin. Well, I kept dying - ALOT. As it turns out, the first weapon that they give you - yeah, you have to equip it first. I don't appreciate death or losing...if my BF had not come home and shown me how to claim all 10 of my shards AND equip my little weapon, I would have quit the game forever.

It took me a looong time to finally grasp what 'woot' is and [Removed for Content] 'afk' and 'lfg' and 'dps' stood for. I'm glad that my BF and guild were patient with me - and willing to gently mock my retardness 2 years ago. lol

I didn't know what poison was - I just put it on whenever my BF told me to. I was like level 40 before I realized (/gasp) that it makes you do extra DAMAGE!!! (/revelation) Oh, and speaking of revelations - when I discovered that we have BAGS and that you can put stuff IN the bags. OMG - I was like Yesss! Then I found out you could purchase more bags from the merchant...man I saved up my little bit of silver for those 4 slot bags and I was SO excited and proud. lol

Well, here are the reasons that I picked the Ranger class as my first toon - after very carefully reading the game manual (3 times). Scout class - sneak and pathfinding. (I mean, I didn't want to DIE, so I figured I could sneak everywhere - and I did for about 18 levels LOL) So, my BF had a Swashie and I wanted a scout class - so I rolled a Ranger. Default ranger, ftw. LOL Turns out, I LOVE the class.

Hope you all have a very great day and a wonderful Halloween, tomorrow.

/ranjah hugs

Ciarra

*edited cause I suck at making smileys*

Message Edited by brandi7920 on 10-30-2006 04:15 PM

haha the equip weapon story - that's a classic.

I remember some of the original things in the game. Like in the old days, invis *worked*, you could go to a lot of places invis. remember how you'd have to upgrade it every few levels, or mobs in your appropriate level zone would see you?

LOL

Just wanted to say thanks all. As a player since launch with too many t6 and t7 toons to count, thanks for helping me remember the "good ole days." With enough plat and experience to twink an army, it's really nice remembering the days when we had to learn it all from scratch (which I did). I only happened to be trolling these boards since I created my first ranger ever (5 years of EQ1 and what almost 2 now of EQ2). It seems like a great community. If you're on Kithicor, look me up. My ranger's name is Macord. Again, thanks for making my day with this thread.

Macord, Ranger of the 8th Season, Kith
