Anyone got some tips on how to get the most DPS out of a ranger on the Lord Vyemn fight. I am in a guild with three rangers and we do a lot of the dps upto Vyemn but the Vyemn fight makes us struggle.Being stuck under his belly kinda makes it difficult to do much at all. Do any rangers joust in and out of his AoE that knocks you up in the air, if so how do you avoid the tail lash?

I have never fought Vyemm under his belly. I am always behind him and the only thing I get hit with is the same ae that everyone does (the one that tosses you), which really isnt all that bad. Just be sure to turn off autoattack during that time so the tank can regain agro. Only time I parse low is if someone turned Vyemm at me and I go splat, and then don't get rezed for half the fight. Now Venekor I do have to fight under his belly and just take the hit in dps (gives the others a chance to catch my zone wide <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />)

Only time I ever get hit by anything that kills me outright is if hes looking directly at me.<p>Message Edited by Marcuzs on <span class=date_text>10-23-2006</span> <span class=time_text>08:10 AM</span>

<DIV>I never get hit with Vyemms AE.  I get at the max range of my long bow and damage at range.  If he turns to me I get hit but as long as the tank does his job I am not hit.  Right after the AE goes off, I rush in do a few high damage CAs and apply my int line poison then back out to range and plink away.  I usually parse at or near the top doing this.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>There is no reason to get hit by his AE and especially no reason to be fighting like a common assassin under his belly.  And Assasins smell bad.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

Alot of people have...like a phobia of stepping outside what is normally allowed. I always use ranged attacks on Vyemm, Tarinax, Venekor. I know some, particularly Venekor can be tough to do, but it is possible. I always find it odd when people say not to range/stay under the belly. I mean, I have no interest in wiping the raid, but I definitely find it interesting seeing whether or not I can do it successfully (I have not caused a wipe yet..yet I am sure, for I will some day, and they will just have to live with it).I would rather really large mobs had a cross over area for bow/melee attacks than for me to get to test my luck. Nothing quite so annoying as having to run a mini marathon to get to bow range to hit Tarinax. (what I mean by this is that the point where you are not in their personal space is way beyond their graphical representations, the "sweet spot" still exists, it is just out by Neptune on some mobs.At any rate, I am not advocating rebelling against your raid leaders if they say otherwise. I personally just chat with mine and they trust me enough to allow me to bend the rules to accomodate myself.Merkades, 70th Ranger.Siege, Nejana.

<DIV>I gotta agree with Merkades here. It shouldnt really be an issue, as long as you are aware of whats going on, but you might wanna talk to the raid leader and explain it first, before just sneaking off... I personally just sneak off :smileyvery-happy: but it has yet to be an issue.</DIV>

Well atm we rely on our rangers dps and this under the belly [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] aint cutting it for DPS, the fight drags on and on.I'm thinking of having all three rangers at max distance to vyemens side, we should avoid the frontal and rear aoe's, which leaves us to eat the knockup aoe which does crushing damage. If we all throw on some light chitin rings and all our max mitigation stuff, i doubt we'll get hit for more than 1.8k.I was getting hit for 1.8-2k last time.Anyone tried the vitality posions to regen health, they may work i'm thinking. Just need to be careful and ease of dps when he wipes aggro lol.

<P>We've always fought him from the side or (for ranged peeps) WAY behind. I still get hit by the AE, but as long as your resists aren't in the gutter like mine, you shouldn't die outright. Just clear your target for a sec (ESC) and then resume the fun. </P> <P>Honestly, if your rangers are being told to stay under the belly, you might as well just go AFK or stay home altogether. That's like asking a wizard to limit himself to melee auto-attack with a wand. </P>

Some how I don't think that I'll be having this problem when it comes time for us to take on Vyemn. Reason being our guild leader and one of the top officers are both Rangers <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. That and both have been playing and raiding long enough to know that just because a tactic is touted as being "the only way" doesn't necessarily make it so.Edited to add: BTW I always personally thought that the whole under his belly thing was a bit odd for rangers. Granted I've gotten blasted by some AOE's from some mobs even at max distance. However I have yet to cause a wipe on any raid because I was at max distance.<p>Message Edited by Mronin on <span class=date_text>10-24-2006</span> <span class=time_text>02:36 PM</span>

Go out after the mem wipe and put in some bow attacks, then get back in.
