My second main use to be a lvl 45 Ranger but after LU 13 he just awful to play and he went to the great alt-heaven in the sky and was deleted to make way for another. but i have been missing the Ranger way of fighting and after finally clearing another character slot i am restarting the ranger again... it started off fun and am now like lvl 16... but a few things are nagging me...

1. at no time do i feel like a bow specialist, basically i just use a bow to pull and then use melee for most of the fight while waiting for cheap shot to refresh so i can pull back and use bow again. i really miss seeing a large chunk of hit points fall away from the mob before it even gets to me.

2. these days poisons seem um silly...is it just the lvl 20 below poisons just seem to have a DoT but no large up front damage... and although they say 25% chance youll be lucky if they proc once a fight. it just seems like DEVS have really screwed up what a ranger is. they SHOULD BE like a mage in the sense that they use a bow (nuke) to pull mob then using cheapshot (root type) to stall the mob and nuke some. high damage from afar but nerve racking upclose but it seems they have forgotten the reason why a lot of us play rangers is to use a bow... not spend most of the fights goign hand to hand with mobs

currently i am using mostly adept3's and a rare bow ... does our dps in soloing ever straight getting exciting... im less concerned with how ill perform in end game but the journey there.

and lastly im still surprised that we still cant walk around wearing our bow instead of showing our melee weapons (cos we are more than likely to finish a fight in melee)

uhh wasn't lu13 the update that made rangers the [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]?

Lu13 gave us ungodly damage via the proc bug. It also eliminated our ability to kite almost altogether.

See you young whipper snappers sit down and let old Rhanin tell you a story.....

Long ago a Ranger could kite his way out of almost any mess and the good ones could and did kite some epics and all sorts of named and to many this was a grand time in our history. Now along came a fateful day marked LU13 and many only saw our ability to shoot and scoot dead and buried. It wasn't till later that many began to discover we had amazing powers of proc'age and could solo via other means. So to many at first it seemed as if lu13 had ushered in a rather large nerf on our hiny.

Anyways there by OP was prolly one of the many who made a ranger for our ability to farm high end lvl 50 content via kiting or just cause we solo'd amazing with it. He prolly also didn't stick to his ranger much after we got the kite nerf, like many, and most peeps don't keep up on other classes they don't play so they prolly never got wind of our proc windfall. Once the proc discrepency was later found out and widely documented and well known many jumped back on hte bad wagon.

The procs weren't bugged, the amount of procs were just too high. Now, it feels kinda low, but... atleast poisons last longer Besides, you didnt need to kite after LU13, you could kill yellow +++ kinda easy just with the mere DPS... (hmm wonder why we got whacked)Thenagain, mages still do that ... *sigh*++Xan

Message Edited by xandez on 09-18-2006 10:01 AM

While we are on the subject of longbows. Is it still better to use a long bow vs. a shortbow? You get better range with the long, but the short shoots faster.

To be honest, I'm not sure which is better. I imagine that it depends on the situation. However, until something is done about the cost of arrows, I'll be using a longbow.

I have to agree with the OP, I play on VOX so I have twinked my ranger pretty good, but bow just seems to suck in most situations. I do extremely well in straight up melee, but bow usually sucks, especially against other players.

I'm a lvl 19 ranger btw.

I use my bow whenver possible. I use my melee skills to enhance my bow shots. Cheapshot step back, quick bow shot. Point Blank and cue up a hard hitting shot. Lunging Blade, step back hard hitting shot. If they are still alive after that, it's not by much...
