some people who posted in that thread have no idea how to play a ranger and should just stop posting about AOE risk vs reward cause it just makes them sound stupid.

I was in some loot and glory runs through some T7 instances this weekend. 1 zerker, 1 fury, 2 dirge, 1 assassin, and me (70/50 ranger). We are raid equipped (I'm not yet uber but getting there) with gear and group buffs I had both STR and AGI over 510, STA over 400, WIS and INT both in the low 200s Haste and DPS at 100% as buffs recycled. Things went poof. In a group we are still dps machines. The fury was parsing and and me and the assassin constantly battled for the top spot. We ran through Vaults, Blackscale, and Den in no time at all. Even got the ranger class hat for back-up gear from the guy in Vaults. In raid set up rangers get hosed just look at the procs and buffs we miss out on in the original thread you quoted. In groups we can still make things go poof.

If there is anything I would suggest learning it would be to ignore posters who post crap like learn to play your class or ranged dps is lower cause you trade it for AoE protection. Learn to ignore that crap and you will go much further.

I have a few fabled and legendary helms. My prefered choice is Cowl of the Pathfinder, only for the proc. I have 5 AA points in crit range, so the extra bit from the helm helps. Next preference are helms with nice INT bonuses. A lot of the helms share the same resists, so thats not a issue.

Just a quick newb question: what is wrong with using focus aim? I've been using it before my big CAs every time I fight a named, and if thats not good I'd love to know why.

Timidmouse:

Ignore the comments about Focus aim unless you are using the Ancestral Sarnak Warbow dropped by Venekor in Halls of Seeing. It seems to be missing most shots under focus (I don't own one so am not speaking frmo personal experience here). Current thinking is that it's tagged in game as something other than a ranged weapon. As a side effect of Focus is to lower your non-ranged attack skills, it hits less.

Sorry to derail the legendaryness of the thread - please return to your normal legendary service :smileywink:

Mirdo.

I'm far from a legendary ranger but if you're having fun playing your ranger that's the important thing. To get DPS numbers that actually make people comment about them you need to be in the right group setup and work your butt off during the fights.

I hate to derail this derailed thread, but I'm just coming back to EQ2. I remember reading that INT gives a bonus to spell damage, but CAs were not included as spells. I've seen a couple references to INT bonuses on equipment and that leads me to wonder, are CAs in fact considered spells for the INT to increase the dmg, or is it something else that I'm unaware of? I thought the 3 main stats for rangers were STR, STA, and AGI (not in that order) with WIS coming in a distant forth for resistance. Am I missing something?

Message Edited by Qwindar on 09-06-2006 04:42 PM

Here are some of the questions we should be asking ourselves..While assassin CA's ae still greater than Ranger CA's in terms of dps and recycle time.. What is the dps diffrence between t8 ammo and mark with decent int?At 100ish int - mark does 500-800 dmg (going off memory, if an assassin wish's to correct me - please do), while other members may trigger this proc procing 5x in 30s is very likely (the initial proc is alittle harder though) to a total of 4000 damage over 30s.. The question standing, does t8 ammo provide even a 4000 damage diffrence over 30s? And what is the diffrence in mark at 100 int to 400 or 500 int to t8 ammo?Personally, with playing another assassin, having random people play the same assassin with the same assassin who still tops my zonewide dps by 10-15% with adept 3's - with me at master 1's and while I maintain a 1.1k dps rating at nearly fully matered with the same groups... There is something wrong with that picture.. ----- Sidenote - I can do more dps with that assassin with a new hotkey setup, than I can myself while I am better equipped and better spells. Also - after talking with several high end rangers - the general idea is that it is "possible" for a ranger to hit 1.8k dps - however, zonewide parses still show the assassin being much higher - espessally after looking at disso's, and others parsings.

Thanks for the response! I never would've thought that a poison would be considered a spell, that's why I didn't make the connection. Come to think about it, that's why our INT AA line is poison based!
