<DIV>Hello. I'm a Ranger of the 31st season on the Venekor server. I really enjoy my class, but was hoping to get some tips on how to improve my PvP game. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Generally speaking, I seem to encounter two scenarios: </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>a) I get the drop on someone. In this case, I usually start off a back shot, or the one from stealth. The back shot has the advantage of snaring, which is always nice as people I get the drop on usually try to run away. When they do, it's usually a matter of balancing my sprint/mana to be able to get in range and still be able to get off a few attacks. Any tips on this aspect? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>b) Someone gets the drop on me. Admittedly, this is where I need the most help with. Often, I just panic. My "crowd control" moves, such as our stun and our root have a very short duration, and don't seem to buy me much time. Most of my opponents know I need a bit of range to really be effective, so they stick to me like glue. What should I do in this situation? One of the moves I've def. underused is our melee snare. Is this the key to getting some range? </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>So that's the jist of it. Granted, it's oversimplified, but it seems that I'm great until someone closes in and focuses their attention on me. At this point, I either evac or try to sprint and run away/stealth. Because of previous failures, I'm almost afraid to fight someone unless I can get some opening shots on 'em (and even here, they till run away successfuly about 1/3rd of the time.) </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Also, what is the application of Stalk? I've used this maybe...twice, and I'm sure I'm missing what it's for. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thanks in advance for any input (even stuff I didn't ask about - anything will help.)</DIV>

Admittedly, I am not on a PvP server.  But one thing I noticed was that you would start with back shot.  Since it is our only CA that can be used while running, I would think that it would be more usfull to use while pursuing a fleeing foe.  Hidden shot does more damage so I would be more inclined to start with that CA

I'm by no means an expert, I'm level 45 on Nagafen, but these are some things I've picked up.  If possible, try to get a mount to help with people running away from you.  Even if you cant outright run someone down, you can generally get off more ranged auto attack hits in.  Be sure to have your ranged CA's queue'd, so that you get the maximum amount of ranged dmg possible.  It also helps to take good angles in pursuit. If you know someone is running to a specific zone, try to angle your path to meet them there. Try to stay going in a straight line, and anticipate objects and zone boundries.  It's a matter of personnel preference, but I prefer to use a long bow for PVPing. You are mostly using your Combat Abilities, so the delay/dps doesnt really matter, and by the time you have exhausted them or are chasing them, the extra range comes in better then the dmg/dly IMO.  As for someone getting the drop on you...Alot of the time that is not a situation you are going to win. Rangers arent really built for surprise PVP.  One tip is to not allow people to get the drop on you. I constantly have track up and on PC only at all times. If someone comes into track range but you dont have a con for them, do / <name>. If they are not of your alignment, it will tell you and you can find out before they are in track range.  You also might want to consider a sword/shield combo for up-close fighting(or soloing). Again, you are mostly using your combat abilities.  I'd also look into the Point Blank Shot AA line. I dont know what the trendy choice, but this is useful for PVP, especially up close. It's an additional knockdown/blur/+ damage.
