View Full Version : How to maximize DPS?

I'm a decently equiped Ranger: Level 70, all Master I or Adpet III spells, Grizzlefazzle Bow, with Legendary/Fabled gear, but today for some reason I couldn't break 500-700dps in the parse during our Labs raid. My group set up was: Fury x 2, Monk x 2, Swashbuckler, Ranger (myself) Granted we were a pickup raid, but still, that seemed a bit low. I was using Grandmaster Caustic and the level 62 summoned arrows. If anyone has any suggestions on how to maximize DPS while raiding (taking into account I'm on a PvP server, so we only have Q classes, and the group setup above is probably typical if where I'll be placed) I'd appreciate it. <div></div>

I knocked poise for a long time and said I'd never get it. I recently got it a few days ago.... get poise.

<P>Ok let me clerify or maybe make my point about poise a little better. Shed some light on my new found faith in this once unspeakable ability hehe. Poise not only makes all my attacks faster but it really helps me at least get deep into my ranger. It speeds my whole game up and makes me feel like I'm alive and kicking and taking a chunk out of the mob. I'm less bored while raiding and I feel and AM more affective. Being less bored alone helps up my dps because when I get bored I slack and don't feel like putting the work in. The faster ca's mean less time wasted casting and more time refreshing ultimately (espeically on long long fights) letting you pump out some CA's a second time right before the fight ends. It helps with being at 5m and/or running from melee to ranged since you burn through melee abilities even faster than before. Cramming more shots into Focus, even just one or two, makes more difference than I ever imagined. And like I said it really helps set a brisk pace to my dps, I feel faster and more lethal, keeping me on edge better and longer. I don't ever see myself going back. And on those burst dps fights, especially large group ae fights where things drop like flies and casting times often leave you doing barely any dps since it died before your shot went off, poise is a must. Burst dps with poise on a ranger is great. I'm going maxed ranged crits/poise/maxed melee crit for my AA setup once it's all said and done.</P> <P>I went from doing 700-900 dps before poise with drops below that into 600 and 500 on occassion and peaking into the 900 only 20'ish or less % of the time. I most often sat around 700 750'ish dps.</P> <P>With poise I'm doing 700-1000 dps BUT I never drop below 700 unless I'm slacking/bad circumstance and I am more often floating in the 800-900 dps range on most fights and spike 1000'ish about 20% of the time.</P> <P>Nothing else changed except me getting poise....well I lost like 40 int and 20'ish % poison crit chance from respec'ing =P. I have 2 t7 masters (killing and cloak) and no t6 masters ( none that i still use anyways). All my bow shots are adept III except snaring and none of my melee are better than adept 1 with one or two at app4 (yeah i'm workin on it i was gone for awhile lol.)</P>

<P>Beg to ditch one of the fury's and steal an inquisitor. Inquisitors can DPS buff you so your auto attack hits harder. They also have a group proc that works on both melee and ranged. If you can steal away a coercer or bruiser that is nice also as both can buff your DPS mod. Dirge are also very nice especially if the have the Don't Kill the Messenger AA that increase all crit abilities by 7.5%. Troubadors can also have this AA but they don't have the group melee proc's like a dirge does. Conjurors are great for the Ember Seed proc which works on both melee and ranged. And at a 20% proc rate goes off like crazy. But they are usually better off in the mage group with the troubador and unlikely to be put in the melee group.</P> <P>If you can get yourself to 100% DPS mod you will greatly increase yout overall DPS.</P> <P align=center> </P>

<DIV align=left>This is not the first time I see this question. Several answers are already given (look for example here: <A href="http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=39&message.id=36164" target=_blank>http://eqiiforums.station.sony.com/eq2/board/message?board.id=39&message.id=36164</A> <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></DIV> <DIV align=left><BR>There are some limitations on PvP server regarding available classes. For the given limitations, I think your DPS was not too bad. But I still believe you could improve the group setup al lot even with classes available from Qeynos. What I’m missing in your post is some information about your self, like Attributes and AA. I think there may possibilities to improve your DPS by getting better equipment.</DIV> <DIV align=left> </DIV> <DIV align=left>How did the other compare to you?</DIV> <DIV align=left> </DIV> <DIV align=left>What did you do during the raid, which CAs did you use in which sequence, what did you and your raid for debuffing the mob? Questions, which you need to find the answered for your self. For some things, you need to try them out. The basics are available in the Ranger forum. How to apply them to your play style is up to you.<BR></DIV>

*blush* Can't believe I forgot the AA information: I have 50 AAs, Poise/Perfectionist. The entire raid we had a 70 Monk parsing 700-900. I was always in the top 5, along with another Ranger, Wizard, and Zerker. Thanks for the link, definately going to have to take a look at that! <span>:smileyhappy:</span> <div></div>

Well, in my experience, the difference between 700 dps and 900-1000 dps is mostly working really hard for it. You really have to use every ability as fast as possible in the right order.

<DIV>Learn your ranger inside and out.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Went thru Labs yesterday myself and parsed from 600-1.1k (Using ACT to Parse) depending on how quickly I got to the sweet spot and what spells were up. I have all masters, except Stream, Snaring Shot, Shocking Thrust, Culling, Amazing Shot, Long Blade, and Lunging Joust, and those are all Ad3s. Not much in the way of buffs came my way.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>That 18k Sniper Shot looked good tho.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Don't sweat DPS. Thanks for all the advice, not sure if my group make up will be the same this Thursday, but I've switched some gear around to increase my strength and gonna see if I can bump up those numbers a tad. Practice makes perfect, eh? <span>:smileywink:</span> <div></div>

Finally just turned off my parse channel and enjoyed the raid, helped alot! <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /><BR><p>Message Edited by Shaulin Dolamite on <span class=date_text>08-22-2006</span> <span class=time_text>08:43 AM</span>
