View Full Version : Back after a 4 month break

I left not too long after the ranger nerf. My evenings got kind of boring and I started back playing last night. During my hiatus I kept up with the forums and still see how rangers are not quite where many of think we should be. I have read that there is a new betrayal system that can allow you to change your class to an assassin. Can someone please post a link or give me an idea where i can do this quest. Also is it very hard? In addition, I rolled a Bruiser so my wife, who plays an inquisitor and I can duo. Can anyone fill me in on the pros and cons of playing a Bruiser instead of a ranger? Thanks

On the betrayal question...

To betray Qeynos you have to speak to Spockfuddle. He's near the fence in Qeynos Harbor. You'll have to do a few task to prove you really want to betray and then you become an exile. As an exile you live in Haven, which has a few necessary things like a broker (buy only), a bank, and a mender. Not much in the way of creature comforts. Now that you're an exile your faction status with both cities is set to -50,000. You need to do faction quests in order to build your faction up with your chosen city (you'll be directed who to go to). Once you get to +10,000 and your faction status is "amiable" with your chosen city you will be offered citizenship and will have to do a few tasks to prove you want citizenship. Once those are done the last part is to speak to a trainer and chose your subclass. Once you have selected your subclass you will get new combat arts and they will all be set to apprentice 1 (OH JOY!!).

Now...when you are betraying you can chose to go to the other city or build faction back up with your old city. This is because if you play a neutral subclass (one that exists in both cities) you have the option of which city you want to live in. SOE did this because under the old betrayal neutral subclasses couldn't switch to their opposite subclass like the good/evil classes could. For example: I betrayed my Guardian from Qeynos and built faction back up with Qeynos and became a citizen again as a Berserker. Since you want to betray and become an assassin you will have to betray Qeynos and build faction up to become a citizen of Freeport since Assassins can't exist in Qeynos.

Also...when you betray don't forget to clean out your apartment and relinquish it.

As for playing a Bruiser...

I love my Bruiser. I love being able to stand face to face and go toe to toe with mobs. The assassin will do more damage (quite a bit more) but he will also have positional requirements on some of his attacks. The Bruiser also has Feign Death and a self heal which really help out when soloing. Bruisers have great avoidance but can only wear leather armor so you will need to take that into consideration.

Whichever way you go...Have Fun!!

Thank you for the detailed reply. Now if I betray my ranger, am I only allowed to become an assasin or do i have an option to become a brigand also? They seem like they can solo and put out some nice dps also. I did truly love my ranger and left eq1 as one of the top bards on my server. When i came to eq2, i just wanted to be the ultimate king of dps. Being a ranger was great, learning about all of the CA's, learning about the procs, and just seeing all of those arrows fly.

As for the betrayal question. One of the people on my server wrote up a nice detailed guide if you choose to read it in addition to what has been written above, you can check it out here.
