While I understand that the Ranger class is struggling at the moment, is there anyone that feels the ranger class is still fun to play? I have a ranger, 41, who I love to play, but you all make it sound like all the fun is gone. I have found that she is still fun to play, but, I would like to know if anyone else out there still enjoys the Ranger class. Thanks,Denuve

I enjoy it! The issues reside in the lvl 70 end game raiding environment, not in soloing and grouping

Rangers still a fun class, and a good class.. The only problem your seeing with all this talk, is rangers are capping off at 1.5k dps, while others are capping off at 2k dps frequently..The problem isent as big as these boards make it seem.. But, we have alot to fight with.. This is david and goliath fighting here, and a measly slingshot isent going to do it But enough of that, you will still do great dps in groups, have a alright time soloing. You will only see a problem when your maxed out on everything and jump into a raid.

I love my Gwynnie Gwyn Gwyn Frooooooak! Solo we're fine. Grouping we're fine. It's in raiding that the class needs to be addressed, because it's been more than made clear that there's a problem somewhere.

Message Edited by TaleraRis on 08-01-2006 01:34 AM

Well, its not just dps and rading. We are horribly expensive when it comes to poisons and arrows. Yes i say arrows because even with a master summon arrows the summoned arrows will not be enough during constant grouping.

Rangers are extremely fun when soloing, and under any circumstance during the early levels 1-50 or so. It is also the coolest and most unique class as it is the only true archer class. It is perfect for curious people who like to explore and cover ground quickly. Spells like tracking, evacuate, stealth and abilities like safe fall makes all that possible.

BTW, raiding is overrated. Its just another form of grinding except the things you need never drop and you need to be on your toes for 5 hours straight just to see someones parsing make you look bad.

Solo we are fine. Grouping we are great. We are one of the best burst DPS classes out there due to our aggro control abilities. Raiding is not overrated. Raiding is fun. It's the only way you are going to discover all the content, and being a scout, I like discovering new content. I also really enjoy working as a team to take down that epic boss. It's a thrill.

We are okay when it comes to raiding also. Only in the high-end raiding guilds, who pretty much do nothing but raid 6 days a week, is where Rangers are a problem. Their strats are built around DPS. If you don't aspire to be in one of those guilds, then you'll enjoy your Ranger. I do everyday I play. Many casual guilds have made it to the end game, so there's no need to worry about missing content if you are not in one of the elite guilds.

Enjoy your Ranger.

If you tie summoning arrows to a key you use a lot, then you should stay well stocked.

I love playing my Ranger.

I thoroughly enjoy the style of play, the ability to solo...I like it all around.

Sure I have my issues.

I am playing my alt more since I am nearing the cap...I want to slow down more...enjoy the scenery.

I am happy though, when my alt is out of vitality and the crafting vitality is gone as well...because then it is arrow flinging time...and with my new fangled Grizzlefoshizzle bow...I fling them with even more satisfaction.

Happy Happy

Joy Joy

I think the endgame stuff is heated because at that stage.. DPS is really important...i'd certainly hate for anyone to NOT play a ranger just because of the stigma that Rangers dont do good DPS.. they do, if anything they dont do as much DPs as some other classes in the endgame or require alot more work to get there. For 99% of the population though thats not a problem.. and thats what Lockeyes data pertains too.

All the talk about insufficient raid DPS is discouraging, but unless you're a dedicated raider, it doesn't mean the whole class is completely worthless or anything.
I love my Ranger. We have more fun than a pride of Kerran in a box of catnip

I thought a group of Kerra was a gaggle...

So confused...does wikipedia have anything on kerra? I will have to check.

Gaggle? GAGGLE?? And this from one of my kerran brethren... /sigh

Actually Tex is right, we must be a pride, cuz we say "For the pride!" in one of the warcry emotes.

(But a whole pride INSIDE a box of catnip? How about just a field of catnip? Mmm, fresh and tasty.)

I still enjoy my ranger, and I'm level 70 and a raid nightly. It's not as much fun as it use to be but I still don't have any serious alts I play instead of my ranger. Maybe I'm just a glutton for punishment, who knows.

Someone in the big OMG! thread said something like "there's no reason to play a ranger unless you have a sentimental attachment to the class like Jay42 does," and I just about died laughing, I felt like such a martyr. Glutton for punishment is more accurate though, since I'm not really trying to prove anything by playing my class. Just being sentimental, I guess.

The DPS wars you hear about are strictly a discussion amongst elites. Nothing wrong with that, but if you are not one of them the discussion really doesn't apply to you. And even casual guilds that are getting into some raiding content will typically not excommunicate you from their guilds just because you are a Ranger.Short version: ditto of Gareorn's post. Enjoy your Ranger. :smileywink:
