View Full Version : Now that we are officially 'fine' what alt are you rolling?

Seeing as we are all a bunch of crap rangers and obviously have no idea how to play the ranger class I was wondering what people are going to roll altwise. So far I have myself a dirge that I kinda like, useful for raiding and pretty decent in groups.I have also rolled a illusionist who will become a coercer eventually. I had the opportunity to play a 70 coercer on a raid yesterday and wow that was fun, lots and lots of options and a crate load of tactics required.SO whats everyone else doing? You guys going for another DPS class like a Rogue or doing something completly different?

Looks like my illusionist is gonna go from questing and crafting pretty much sitting at lvl 50 into power lvl mode. Might also start focusing on my 33 Templar as well.

I switched mains to my Paladin about 6 weeks ago. It's great not having to log on everyday and wonder what else was being nerfed about my class.

I didnt believe all the hype about rogues being able to DPS as well as rangers, but as more and more ppl started talking about it, I became curious and rolled up a brigand. At the moment shes 53 (and going places she has no business being). I've already gotten a thumbs up, if I so desire, from my GL to play the brigand over my well equipped ranger. Shouldnt take too much longer to grind out to 70, pick up some decent gear, and start hitting a few raid zones to see how things go. At least when its all said and done I'll know, once and for all, the truth about rouges > rangers.

I might get flamed for this but here goes.. This issue only manifests itself in guilds that aim for high DPS groups - 16-20k depending on zone. The data the Dev's are viewing is across the spectrum of guilds - from the huge number of 'average' to the low number of 'uber' guilds. I know from personal experience how few guilds are actually able to really optimise for DPS. When you join one it's a real eye opener. I have no doubt that the data the Dev's are viewing shows us to be in a decant situation. I also have no doubt that in a very high DPS guild Rangers will be scoring behind Wizzies, warlocks, Swashies, Brigands and Summoners. This issue seems to only affect a very low percentage of the population so is unlikely to be recognised and addressed. My chosen alt - my Ranger as long as my guild wants me on raids . BUT it sodding hurts to be less than efficient for the 23 other people putting up with my gimped presence on the raids. The raw data might tell one story, but in the guilds optimising fro DPS - frankly Rangers suck. AND bows - SoE said they would fix them - your current bow content is junk - seriously - consider the bow DR's versus easily obtainable Legendary dual wielders or, in the case of tanks, 2 handers. Your bow itemisation looks like it's been done via script or a 10 year old. M.

I've liked playing my necro. I have him for when I solo a lot (playing late at night without a lot of time) They perform well in all situations - solo, group, raid, although I haven't gotten to raid much with em. It took a while to really learn how to solo with em. it seemed very easy when other people did it, then when I started to try and solo heroics they splatted me all over the floor. After dying a lot, now I can do it decently. Better make sure your spells are adept3 before trying

k i'll make a wizard I'd consider conj or necro but in the 1/10000000000000000000000000000 chance he made it past lvl 50, and the 1/10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000000000000000 chance it made it to 70, pet masters would be too expensive for me :smileyvery-happy:

Message Edited by Naku9 on 07-29-2006 04:50 PM

Not a high end raider, so DPS debate doesn't really affect me. Ranger is fun for soloing, groups, zones and any raids where the goal is not mastery by a professional raiding guild. Best of luck to all.

Got her from level 7 to 14 and I've got to say, she's pretty powerful at this level. I can only imagine how she'll be paired with my bf's fury. I have a conjuror I pair with my bf's berserker. Also have a shadowknight and illusionist I play around with. I have alt-itis. Gwyn isn't going anywhere, though. The solo game for rangers is just fine. We can handle the content we're meant to handle. But I do hope my raiding brothers and sisters get the boost that it's pretty obvious they need.

I made a dark elf assassin alt when I came back because I'm tired of the back and forth debate between the two and what they can do. Figured why be a side liner when you can put out a little work and actually know. But I'm not gonna stop playing Rha in hopes of better gear, spells, and maybe new stuff with EoF bringing him back in line with what he is suppose to be. Even just raiding after being 4months gone and 4 days back I'm making top 4 (albeit I'm usually #4) most of the time on raids with the occassional break into top 2 and rarely i'll get a number 1 when the assassin is slacking. I'd say it's a 80/15/5 split between how often those happen hehe. Anyways I find it hard to complain too hard anymore because between my love for playing as Rhanin and the crap, I'd have to stick to my guns and keep Rhanin going. Betraying doesn't seem like much of an option either beings it took me too much hard work and time to get Rhanin what he has already, couldn't imagine doing it again or getting past the feeling of [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]ing out. I've got other alts bruiser, fury, swash and I figure I'll make another with the new race option in EoF, just don't see any of them taking over as my main unless EoF turns out bad and I can't stand the way things go from there. I'm semi hoping for a pattern to solidify with EoF. Original eq2 assassin's were top dog, DoF we were top dog, KoS assassins, EoF /crosses fingers.....

But once in a while I feel like reading a good tale well told. :smileyhappy: Obviously I'm an Oblivion fan, so this was my shameless plug I suppose. Anyway, it's one way to take a break from being a Ranger...without rolling an alt. My 2 coppers'.

Elder Scrolls Online...

/drool

Edit: Doh! To answer the question: Like a few others said, I'm not in a 'uber-high-end raiding guild, so most of the debate is over my head.
My g/f's longtime main was a curly-haired high elf monk! Kinda platinum hair, tho, not blond. She didn't want to betray that toon, but she did make a cute high elf paladin that she planned to betray to shadowknight, just for irony's sake. But those toons got stranded in mid-betrayal, then the whole Haven thing went in, and I think we just gave up on that pair.

As for cute names...hmm. I'll work on that. Ashley recently made an alt ranger (!!), a little pig-tailed halfling named Posie. /sigh

Playing my conjuror mostly these days. Did get a chance to finally finish off Claymore on the ranger though. Pretty nice having it done on both my toons now.

In my book, being pretty AND a redhead go a long way toward mitigating any feelings of class inferiority. Sure, I'm only level 43, I'm still young, I haven't seen the world yet, and yada yada yada. Well, bleh. All I can say is: I still feel useful in groups, I still solo rather well, and I still get enough appreciative whistles and marriage proposals to make me all giggly. And you know what? **warning! Wait; there are other classes to play? Why? If you're not a ranger you suck! DPS hardly matters to a hardcore soloer!
