Well, the ranger population has definitely toned down a bit.  I have no prob getting in a group when I play one.  It would be either a Ranger, for DPS and survivability, or Swashbuckler, because of massive debuffs and AoE fun.  It all comes down to your playstyle though.  Both are good at soloing, and both are good in groups. <div></div>

Have to go with brig right now, or assassin if you just want damage.  Rangers are okay but why go with okay when you can get good or great?

I have a alt Dirge who is great fun and a nice break from the DPS parse. However looking back, I do wish I had rolled a Brigand. Brigands have very nice DPS as much as Rangers in most cases and have debuffs that make them vital in any raid. Rangers with no utlity at all are easily replaced, sad but true.

I love playing my shashy alt. I think at has more to do with 'attitude' than anything though.<div></div>

you know i think i like all the scouts..  i've played all but a troub to 20 .. I do think that Ranger is my least favorite .. just poison+arrow costs + we lost the cool animations from procs = not as much fun anymore.  I'll be taking my Ogre back to the dark side as soon as I am able.I love Dirge.. alot of fun.. swashy/brig are too cool for school too .. and Assassin is way fun aswell.. Rnger is meh.. so so .. could be cos i played one for so long and still remember when it was fun.<div></div>

I do not have the energy to put another 1+ years into another character. I am not rolling another character as I do not have the motivation or desire to run through the same zones and quests again. SOE lost me a long time ago and I only stay because I like my ranger and have put so much time into him.

<FONT color=#ffcc66>If you plan on raiding, and want to play a class that is beneficial to a raid and has its own niche, play ANY scout class other than Ranger.<BR>We offer nothing that other classes dont do considerably better or equally with much more utility added in....except maybe our wit, charm and<BR>good looks. It's still fun to play rangers but in terms of game effectiveness, there are better options.  Especially for raiding.

Play what's going to be fun, that's the important thing. Don't get into a class just because it's the FotM and the next big thing, because if and when things change you'll be unhappy.

<FONT color=#ffcc66>But a Utility class is a Utility class, no matter what, and will always have a place when it comes to raiding.<BR>To me, raiding is whats fun. As it stands, Rangers who want to raid are having less and less fun.</FONT>

Their utility and versatility is much closer to what we had in EQ1 than the EQ2 ranger has.As for the popularity of rangers, I'd have to agree with your estimate of about 9 bazillion, heh. During mid-DoF I was often the only ranger on our raids, with sometimes one other. Roughly a month ago I was in a raid where I was one of <i>seven</i> rangers. And four rangers per raid is not uncommon. But if you really think a ranger looks fun, don't let any of that discourage you. There's usually always a place for us in groups and raids, even when there's lots of us around; DPS classes stack quite nicely for the most part. We may not be needed too often, but we're almost always wanted. <img src="/smilies/3b63d1616c5dfcf29f8a7a031aaa7cad.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></div>

<DIV>I don't really raid.  I mostly solo, duo, and join the occasional group.  As far as those aspects are concerned, I have just as much fun as I ever have playing the Ranger class.  True, the nerfs made me change my strategy when taking on a heroic mob, especially when I solo, but I can still take down the same mobs I always have.  I just have to be a bit more creative.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>As far as groups go, I'm always asked to join based on tracking, disarm trap, and evac capabilities.  Our decent DPS doesn't hurt either.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Just pick a class you think suits your playing style best, and go with it.  There aren't nearly as many Rangers as there were when we were kings of the DPS hill.  Two people in my small guild actually shelved their mid-40's Rangers and rolled new toons.</DIV>

I'm currently leveling up a mystic alt that I 2 box. I love my Ranger but if you plan on just 2 boxing (not getting any other people in the group) then we are not the best option. I find as I get higher up it takes me longer and longer to kill mobs snce my frontal mellee dps is that of a priest <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />. My best bet would be a swash or a brigand. Either do really good damage and have great debuffs. They are also great if you get a tank in your group since you wont have to move around alot like we do.
