<DIV>I am a transplant for Dark age of Camelot for which I Have played since it began and have enjoyed PvP to its fullest.  Yes both the bad and good times in which it brings.  The game has its good and bad points.  I have come to EQ2 with friends at work who played on a regular server yet wanted to try PvP.  So i joined them. </DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>I choose the ranger class since they wanted to play GOOD and I played the infiltrator class on DAOC and enjoyed it.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>My questions and concerns after 1 week of playing. </DIV> <DIV>Info :   Race Kerra....   Class  Ranger and current lvl  23....   crafting current is scholar lvl 19  will go into alchemy.....</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Questions:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1.  After only 1 week I understand that I do not have close to the knowledge of what the game is all about and such but I have observed that yes I will be killed on a regular basis.  But the aspect I am having a hard time with is this.  Skill will vary from person to person, Hell even their respective computer and internet connection could come into play at times.  but with all things being equal, does level have more of an affect in the outcome of a battle than gear and skill ?  I have a very hard time with those 2 or more levels above me, yet have no problems with those lower than myself.  so how much does level of a person play into a PvP outcome.   If attacked by someone 3 or more levels above me should i go for the border and run?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2.  I have read some forums and am confused to on this.  Agility is our prime trail we seek to gain, yet it states on the persona screen if i arrow over it that it affects power and evade  etc and that strength affects damage.  yet in game the rangers i have asked said to go agility.  Please advise.   And does Intelligence affect our proc rate on items ?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3.  Lastly in what way do arrows  tin, iron and now carbonite affect a ranger.  I was told the bow determines damage,  i can not see if range is increased with better arrows so why buy the more expensive?</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thank you for your time and guidance,  I have many more questions and will continue to search forums for their answer.  If there are any links or sites i should be aware of please advise.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Respectfully</DIV> <DIV>Akera     23rd season Ranger     Voxx</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV>

<DIV>I gave up playing my ranger, so others on this forum may be of more help.  However, some of your questions I can help answer:</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>1.  I cannot answer this as I do not play pvp</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>2.  Agility is your prime stat, however, the other stats have effects on you also.  Like you noticed, str affects battle damage while int affects proc and spell damage.  Wisdom affects your resists and sta your hitpoints.  You have to adjust these for your personal playing style.  Personally prior to LU20 I had put everything into agi and str.  However, post LU20, I would say to put more into str and int than into agi, (also I think agi affects your accuracy with a bow, or at least it used to).</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3.  The type of arrows only affect auto attack damage.  You can use tin arrows for your CA's but I don't recommend it because you will get auto attacks in there while doing your ranged CA's.  Typically I used to use makeshift arrows for nearly everything except for raids.  When doing the higher raids, I would switch to crafted arrows for the better autoattack damage output.  If you just click your auto attack ranged button on a mob, and then snare him, then backup, (called kiting), you can experiment with arrows of different quality to see the difference yourself.</DIV>

This is especially true in PvP where fights are short and ferocious. Agi dictates our power pool and that is it. Agi DOES NOT AFFECT CHANCE TO HIT. Add and remove Str gear and you will see your damage and attack rating go up and down. In short battles where massive damage is important (like PvP) str is the best. Luckily, all str gear has agi on it too so your agi will be high anyways. Go Str! </FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3.  Lastly in what way do arrows  tin, iron and now carbonite affect a ranger.  I was told the bow determines damage,  i can not see if range is increased with better arrows so why buy the more expensive?</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#ff0000>Answerred by other poster.</FONT></DIV> <DIV>Thank you for your time and guidance,  I have many more questions and will continue to search forums for their answer.  If there are any links or sites i should be aware of please advise.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Respectfully</DIV> <DIV>Akera     23rd season Ranger     Voxx</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV> </DIV><BR> <HR> </BLOCKQUOTE><BR>

As you get to the higher Tier of levels, its more about skill. Rangers tend to really shine at about 40 in PVP. However, Agility not only effects your power pool , but also your ability to dodge and parry attacks. If you play the solo game more often, dont discount Agility. INT is also an essential stat as it will increase the damage of your combat arts.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>3.  Lastly in what way do arrows  tin, iron and now carbonite affect a ranger.  I was told the bow determines damage,  i can not see if range is increased with better arrows so why buy the more expensive?</DIV> <DIV><FONT color=#6699ff>Auto attack is the only thing that is affected by arrow quality. Im finding that your makeshift skill, if upgraded to at least adept I , can keep you sufficiently stocked in arrows...outside of Raid. Raiding is a different story and you will burn through arrows quickly.</FONT></DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>Thank you for your time and guidance,  I have many more questions and will continue to search forums for their answer.

<P>It's very hard to quantify skills/gear differences and their impacts.  This is especially true at lower levels when your arsenal of CAs and abilities is more limited.  When you start comparing different classes, and their strengths and weaknesses, it becomes even more complex, so I will limit the discussion to a hypothetical situation of two, (say tier 4), Rangers.</P> <P>Try a rule of thumb something like this:</P> <P><STRONG><U>Experience:</U></STRONG></P> <P>Novice at playing your class:                       subtract one level of difference.</P> <P>Average at playing your class:                     don't add or subtract anything.</P> <P>Very experienced with your class:               add one level of difference.</P> <P><STRONG><U>Equipment:</U></STRONG></P> <P>Poorly equipped with CAs and gear:             subtract one level of difference.</P> <P>Average gear:                                              no additions or subtractions.</P> <P>Decked out to the max:                                add one level of difference.</P> <P> </P> <P>Say you have two Rangers dueling each other.  Both are the same level.  However, one is a novice with average gear, while the other is an experienced player with the best gear for his level.  Even though they are technically the same level, the fight will be more like 3, (possibly 4), levels of difference in favor of the well equipped veteran.</P>

<DIV>I am not so sure that CA damage is affected by INT. I have seen people say that it affects poison damage.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>To be more specific about arrow quality, higher quality arrows will make your auto attacks consistently hit in the higher range of the damage range listed in your bow properties.</DIV> <DIV> </DIV> <DIV>You do not need to wait until you are 40 to be good in PVP. I would say that after 28 you should do pretty well as you will have gotten Hidden Shot and Triple shot. Before you have those you will be somewhat mediocre, especially solo. In the 20s you basically make a transition becoming less and less melee and more ranged.</DIV>
