View Full Version : Ranger, too nerfed to start a new character with?
I'm new to the game, so bearing in mind I've not known (nor will ever know unless Sony undo their patch) what is was like pre LU20, what I wanted to ask is whether or not it is still a worthwhile class to play, or whether or not it has been nerfed to sucha standard I'd be better off to try something else.I know you're frustrated at what they have done to your characters, but being as impartial as you can, should I continue with my now level 8 Ranger or start again with somrthing else? Thanks for te help in advance.<div></div>

play what's fun for you. If you like bow class, play ranger, if you like tank class, pick one of them, if you like soloing^^^ mobs, go mage, it's all dependent on what you want. Not the flavor of the month class.<div></div>

<div>My ultimate advice is - play what you like. Fun is more important than DPS and comparing to other classes. Playing ranger offers great variability, the need for proactive playing with in combat movement and using ranged and melee combat arts.</div><div> </div><div>If you like how your ranger plays, stick with it as it can only get better - some kind of boost to our combat abilities is likely to come in few weeks or months. If you are not sure, then go ahead and try different archetypes, you can have 6 or 8 characters (depnding on your subscription plan) so you can get taste of all four main archetypes - scout, mage, warrior and priest. I have tried them all (lvl 46 inquisitor, lvl 27 ranger, lvl 20 paladin, lvl 24 necromancer and others as well) and like the scout classes the most so far. </div>

<div></div><p>I rolled a Ranger on Darathar PvP server last Tuesday when it came out.I love the class. I've always loved the bow classes in all games. So even if we're nerfed a bit. Even the fact that half of our attacks are ranged, its still a fun class... Just don't solo!</p><p>Also ranger is great class for PvP... Track rocks... when it works <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

<div></div><p>depends on the level range for soloing i suppose. At 27 i have no troubles soloing at all. I have problems killing even groups of solo mobs, thats why i preffer single target encounters, but with them i am still effective. The fights are quickly over and i dont need to rest between encounters like i had with my inquisitor (using subpar crafted drinks, for T3 levels i am on T2 drinks).</p><p> </p>

If you want to be the uber DPS killing machine, I suggest you go elsewhere. We are still a very playable class. As a matter of fact, if you have Rangering in your blood this may be a GREAT time to start a Ranger. You will have to learn every trick at your disposal to do what we could do in our sleep pre LU20.I personally will play a Ranger if they make us throw rocks and swing wooden spoons. I'd scream and complain the entire time, but I'd still do it <img src="/smilies/8a80c6485cd926be453217d59a84a888.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></span><div></div>
<div>Rangers do REALLY well in PVP and is IMO ultimately why these nerfs were put in. They can do a lot of damage on the run with the bow autoattack and the other person can run away all day long. You can run, but you'll only die tired kind of thing.</div><div> </div><div>Note: I did NOT reroll a ranger on pvp....too much pain involved emotionally lol</div>
