Hello all,I have only started playing a ranger since PvP went live and am on NAgafen. I am not sure what the upcoming spells abilities are. At level 14 we are offered several options to take as master 2's. Anyone able to advise me whether i should take the big instant damage master2 that u need to be stealthed for or whether in a PvP environment Hunters instinct with increased attack speed, increased agility and increased movement speed during combat would be better? Thanks for any advice.Wratth L14 Ranger Nagafen

ugh... at the moment i would say reroll for better pvp success! get a zerker or a swash! played correctly they can pwn most other classes... however, if your gonna stick with a ranger, i would say go with the stealth shot...we arent really a close combat melee class, and the buff in question definately is better for close combat than ranged...Dunno how pvp server works, but if this is possible, this is your combination...

Cheap shot IMMEDIATELY

get your biggest VISIBLE attack off

invis right quick!!

run somwhere where opponent wont find u

stealth that bugger, run in and cheap shot again, repeat with whatever tools at your disposal.

I had a 32 ranger on butcherblock before pvp went live. First pvp toon i rolled was swash cuz their melee seemed better but i rerolled right after my first pvp fight. Player chars run around a lot more than mobs (usually cuz the priest they are beating up is running away) so ranged attacks are easier than trying to stay in a moving melee range. And when they flee backshot will slow them so you can stand and use your other bow CAs -- I had to reverse kite with the swash: sprinting after dude using autoranged attack, did kill him eventually. All that said i will take the Hunter's Instinct buff for lvl 14 master 2, it did well for me with my other ranger. For the other levels i will go with bow CAs every chance i get.

I took the buff, but regret it a little. I don't really remember what the other choices were other than that one of them was one of our high damage attacks. In retrospect, I wish I had taken that. Right now it's not easy to find decent upgrades for a lot of our abilities with it being a new server and our first priority is putting out damage. The situation is rapidly changing though as more people are starting to craft and offline sales is turned back on. Ultimately, I would say it doesn't matter a huge amount as you level so quickly. I will add however that it is difficult to use positional/stealth melee attacks in pvp. Cheap Shot only lasts 2 seconds in pvp and with the flow of pvp that isn't nearly enough time to stealth, flank, and execute one of our big backstabs. Don't take that to mean that it's not useful in pvp at all, but it certainly doesn't allow us to execute stealth combinations in pvp the way it does in solo pve.

On the pvp leaderboards there are 2 rangers in the top 15, 2 swashies, and 0 zerkers. Granted the swashies are ranked higher. Let me qualify that by saying that I'm sure things will change over time. From what I have seen so far, I think everyone has a chance to do well in pvp. IMO you are correct in saying that rangers aren't a close combat class though. I seem to have the most luck using guerilla tactics. As you get into your 20s and start to get more ranged CAs you really start to become lethal. We are so effective at hit run tactics it's amazing. I have even been able to pick people off the fringes of moving raid forces and get away alive. This becomes even easier once you hit 25 and get evac. I'm not going to get into details on tactics though as I'm sure there are people out there better qualified than I am. I'm not one of the 2 rangers in the top 15.
