Yeah I have, the sound track to the game I'm leaving this one for ... I won't mention the name as I don't want this thread to get locked too. But its not the 3 letter one that always gets a thread locked.

Stow that kind of talk, ya swab. You guys should check out the following albums:

Medeski, Martin & Wood, "End of the World Party (just in case)" - Utterly fabulous. MMW has been my favorite band for over 10 yrs now, and their collective genius hurts my brain with every new record. This particular beast came out last year, but given the situation around here, it's ridiculously appropriate. Spooky, foreboding, disgustingly funky.

Steve Kimock Band, "Eudemonic" - More cheerful stuff, good for when you need to put a lot of bad nerfs behind you and focus on the upcoming sunrise. Extremely talented players - Kimock's precision, melodic tone, versatility, and innovative composition make a delicious treat for the eardrums. I recommend their live releases; you can also download individual live tracks from the website. I recommend "Thing One" for the groove.

Tin Hat Trio, "Book of Silk" - This trio creates some of the most haunting, intimate, sorrowful, quirky, beautiful music that I've heard. "The Longest Night" is heart-wrenching, and "Lauren's Lullabye" is both touching and bittersweet, knowing that guitar / dobro / banjo player Mark Orton wrote this for his wife Lauren following her accidental death during the recording of this album.

Share your stuff, k? I'll post more as events warrant. Enjoy

Hey Kae.... listened to any Megadeth lately?/runs

Anything with Bela is good. Some Flecktones stuff gets a bit too close to 'smooth' territory for me, but on the whole it's good stuff. in concert futureman often plays the drumitar with one hand and 75% of a real drum set with the other, pretty slicki wouldn't consider myself a big fan of Sco's tone/style but he's really great. there's a sco/metheny collaboration called I Can See Your House From Here that I enjoy a lot, and I heard a bit of something he just did with John Mayer (who woulda thunk it) that I thought was pretty good.the "Trio -> Live" album is the one to own, btw. studio jazz always sounds bland to me. come to think of it most studio anything sounds bland to me.

Ditto on the live vs studio music, I used to be way more into live stuff, but IMO the studio enables a lot of artists to extend their reach and be even more creative using the larger sonic pallette. So there's good to be had on both sides, but I agree that for any improvisational music, live experiences are often the best.

Yeah, I've seen Bela & the 'Tones live a few times, Futch definitely CAN play a drum kit but he generally prefers not to... just sit down, grab the sticks, and put away the toys! LOL ok, I'm not quite that extreme but Bela deserves some more rhythmic variation than the drumitar provides.

I'm familiar with the Metheny / Sco album, I had it for a while but it's gone now. Sco's tone definitely takes some getting used to, especially when contrasted with someone like Pat who's generally very clean. The Mayer collaboration was on "I Don't Need No Doctor" on the Ray Charles tribute album. I saw Sco a few months ago with the Charles tribute band, it was sick as always to watch John work it. I love that guy. Very cool to see him in a more R&B context too. And yeah... John Mayer can play.. go figure.

Thanks for the Trio -> Live recommendation. I may check that out this weekend.

I shall now attempt to stay on topic. The last five albums to roll past on ye olde MP3 player (worth mentioning) are:Cake - Fashion Nugget. Their best album to date, although I've been called a chump by others for not selecting Prolonging the Magic. /shrug. All I know is, Italian Leather Sofa has one of the best lines in a song ever.RJD2 - Dead Ringer. Completely, absolutely, totally Jay's fault that this [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] thing has infected my consciousness. Hypnotic beats, funky melodies, and high-quality spins. Curse you, sir, for foisting this record upon my being, which has attached itself to my psyche like a leech.Frank Black - Frank Black. His first (and far and away best) solo album, hot on the heels of the end of The Pixies. Rockin' in that special way that only a man with the nickname "Black Francis" can. You'll come for the rapid fire "Whatever Happened to Pong?", but you'll stay for the roaring licks of "Fu Manchu"Beastie Boys - Paul's Boutique. You're not a BBoys fan if you claim to like them, yet have never heard this album. For shame. This album single-handedly resurrected 70s funk with "Hey Ladies" (and that's not a bad thing, either), but is so much more than just that. A lyrical roller coaster through genre after genre, culminating with an 11 minute mix track, one section of which has the most delicious backbeat...NERD - In Search Of... Pharrell is a madman. By all rights, his mix of hip-hop, hard rock, and 80s synth should not work. It defies the laws of nature. Yet, there it is, the platypus of music. And it grabs your attention from the start, and hooks you all the way through. "Rock Star" is, in my opinion, the worst song on the album, and that got tons of airplay.Hey, I never said they were new. I thought good and recently listened to were our criteria.

I been really lazy lately so I'm still listening to the same Sam Bush and Mofro stuff I have been all month, and some Gov't Mule bootlegs. Gov't Mule lotta people probably know about, but if you like them, and never heard of Mofro, try an find some. Mule live is still the way to go though, especially if you catch em on some kinda sick tour like during holidays when they play a 6 hour show. I wore out before they did. Anyway, recommended, lemme see

Gov't Mule - Live With a Little Help From Our Friends : original lineup before Woody died, great show, two versions of it out there. The short one, 2 discs maybe about 90 min or so, the long one 4 discs, the whole show, lotta guests (as usual). Great old rock, blues, and solid jams. Lotta covers and original material.

Mofro - Lochloosa : Only one I got. They have another one out that I can't remember the name of, but they're front porch foot stompin music at its best.

Sam Bush - Anything, if you dig some kick [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] mandolin playing. Bela Fleck likes to guest on his stuff from time to time.

I really like the Mule. I only have Off the Deep End (?) and it's kickin' - the title is a lil different but it's the live disc with all the guest bassists they had on after Woody died. (RIP, Woody - we miss ya.) I love that Sco-Mule tune with Scofield rippin it up alongside Warren Haynes. "On the Banks of the Deep End" is another favorite on that album - I think that has Mike Gordon from Phish sitting in.

Mofro definitely has that back-porch swampy bayou sound going. I don't have any of their stuff, but I've seen them live and they put on a good set.

Sam Bush KICKS. I'm hoping to see him live around here sometime soon, I saw he's coming to town but I don't remember when - may have missed it. Anyone who can tear up a mandolin like that deserves some props. Heard some tunes where he played with Chris Thile (another mandolin prodigy) and wow... utter destruction.

Got some live Om Trio tunes on now, from a show a year or two ago. Really wish these guys hadn't quit before I got to see them, this show has Jake Cinninger from Umphrey's McGee sitting in, and it's incredible. Wish I'd caught them before they bid their farewells.

I enjoy the celtic stuff and some spatterings of Enya. I enjoy some of the tracks from all three Lord of Rings sound track cd's especially when I'm playing and need to get into and adventurous/roleplaying/fantasy mood. In all I listen to a lot of stuff and I take the full spectrum plunge only avoiding country and most rap. To recap some reading in the thread, never enjoyed Megadeth all that much and Mustaine is pretty pansyfied if you ask me though he gives off a humorous air imo. I have had the extreme misfortune to have practically never seen a live show, but then again I'm not much for being in the middle of a bunch of people especially when people are general what cause me to fly into blood rages and smash funiture screaming about great golden monkeys and cats with shivs. ROFL

I like a good range of jazz and as of right now I dug up some Miles Davis and have listened to his album Kind of Blue.

I've also just bought not long ago an Ultimate Collection set of Billie Holiday, a mix of lots of her music over the years with a smattering of some up tempo songs for the sunshine days and nothing gets me into a good low like her song Strange Fruit. She is an awesome musical artist and one of my favorite listens even though I'm only a 20 year old welp hehe.

Across the more instrumental field I do like classical music and listen to Bach a lot lately but I get into just about any of the more well known composers anyone can name off but few can spell rofl.

Beyond my jazz and blues stuff, I listen to a lot of metal, rock, alternative, grundge, you name it, it has heavy riffs, melancholy, superb lyrics/music, and in general whatever catchs my fansy and I'll listen to it.

I have been fiending on System of a Down, Hypnotize...and I'm still fiending on Toxicity. Can't wait to get Mesmerize. The lead singers vocal work combined with the classic revolutionary obsurd genius guitar and drums rocks out as something truely pleasing to me. Add in their perplexing, sordid, off the wall lyrics especially more so in some songs than others and you have a great experience from beginning to finish.

Korn has always been on my listening list nuff said.

Red Hot Chili Peppers are relatively new sort of as far as my listening taste goes but they have a very secure spot on my list.

Touches of Green Day, Godsmack, Metallica, Aerosmith, Ozzy, and a few others smatter my rock listening time as well.

A few other big hitters for me include Staind, My Chemical Romance, Toadies, Pearl Jam, and 3 Doors Down.

Hell, I'll regret it, but I even listen to a little Jewel I'm embarrased to say.

I like a small amount of Cold Play.

I love The Shins, Frou Frou, Iron & Wine, Cary Brothers, Colin Hay, John Mayor, Nick Drake, Remy Zero, and some others in varying degrees.

I listen to a lot of stuff hehe. In general I like melancholy low songs for the majority of the time, I like some fun stuff a little bit, and I also have my irregular need for venting raging music and to play it loud.

Yeah thats the "The Deepest End" show. That was seriously bad [expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]. 2 discs and the dvd, I think that whole show was around 6 hours long before they finally got done playing. John the Revelator with the Dirty Dozen Brass Band was [Removed for Content] great on there. They have two albums they put out with all guest bassists that led up to that one, titled, oddly enough, The Deep End vol 1 and 2 lol. Theres a really cool version of Maybe I'm a Leo on one of em, can't remember which one off the top of my head. They put some neat little surprises on alot of their cd's though. Live With a Little Help From Our Friends has a cover of War Pigs, Live at Roseland has Dont Step on the Grass Sam, theres some cool stuff they do.
