I just rejoined EQ2, and was pleasently surprised to find a game that is now fun.  I spent a few weeks rolling up different classes, but finally decided on a ranger.  Not, not because it was "easy mode", i just wanted to be a DPS class (see below). Now I know the DPS was out of whack before, but what are we supposed to be now?I am new to these boards, but I am baffled.  Is there some dev post or something outlining any sort of plan?  Basicly all I see is a big DPS nerf, no consideration for how the class should be developed.  What is a ranger supposed to be?  Shouldnt you decide that before you rip the class down?  If we are not DPS as I was lead to beleive, what are they?  We have no appreciable buffs, no healing, no great utility, and now below average streaky DPS.Where is the planning?  Where are the dev responses with some sort of plan?  Anything?  The only post I can find is something to the effect of "rangers shouldnt be the best DPS" from some dev.  <b>Ok fine, I dont care if the DPS stays the same, but what is a ranger supposed to be then? </b> I want to know so I can pick a class I will enjoy and be useful.I hope someone from SOE actually reads this, because as a new player this is very frustrating.  I have dragged a group of friends with me to the game and none of them can answer me now either as to what good I am either soloing or in our little groups.  I dont bring much to the table.  We are power gamers, and even in a game where we are playing casually I want to contribute to the team.  We have a nice team setup with a tank, a healer and wizzy.  I was supposed to add DPS or ultility to our team.  I am certainly not ultility, and my DPS is medeocre at best.  They want me to reroll, and I have to agree with them."Lucky" for me that my ranger is only in the mid 20s.  I guess I will just roll something else and get some PL loving from my friends until I can find a clear answer to this core question.PS. Not the point of my post, but soloing stinks now too.  Our class defining abilities are only used one time to start a fight when we solo.  I didnt mind so much when fights were a furious mix of the two, but now..its a shot and then I turn into Mr. Crapy Assasin please let me survive this fight.  What the heck kind of planning is that?  No one picks a class so they can shoot a mob once and then turn into a godawful version of another class for 9/10th of the fight.  At least there was a mix before.  I can understand the frontloaded damage was too high, but if all you do is nerf that what are we left with?  An so-so opening move and a bad assassin (or whatever, I am no class expert but i think they are what I am shooting for)?<div></div>

I guess from the lack of ranger responses and some of the other threads I have now read....I didnt miss anything, there just is no plan.  Just a dumb kneejerk reaction to high ranger DPS with little consideration for what the class should be.I can only hope that SOE takes a minute to first define what it is they want a ranger to be before they implement their next "fix".<div></div>

<div></div>Oh, we're still a DPS class - they didn't give us any new abilities, they just "fixed" our old ones. Whether or not you still feel capable of filling that DPS role is subjective. I know I can still do damage, I just wish I did more of it. I don't feel like it's very fair that a rogue with more additional abilities can also bring more DPS to the table than I can.

Well there is no new plan since the developers consider Rangers still to be a top DPS class regardless of all the data that have come from beta and live players. You will never get an official response other than the standard "we will monitor the development etc etc..." from SOE.After some time things will be adjusted if enough people stop playing the class. I wouldnt hold my breath though. I also played a Wiz since launch and it completely sucked for the first 6 months until it was considered the official joke of the game. After more than a year wizards still lack in dps and is useless in raids. This is just how this game works, no matter what class you will pick, the designers will eventually break it completely. Reason is they lack the ability to design something consistant and always have to redesign the mechanics of the game.<div></div>
