I'm at work and trying not to get depressed about my beloved Ranger (lvl42) - god knows it's easy to get depressed just being at work. Thanks to being in the UK I did not have the chance to get on for more than 10 minutes last night. To help lift my spirits I would appreciate some dispassionate feedback from Rangers on whether the problems are as bad as I'm reading. Is it really that bad, and across all levels or does this affect just high-end Rangers going into KoS? Does it make soloing impossibly awful? Will we be outcasts from any sort of group or just some sort of dumb mascot taken along for the ride?

If the changes are working as intended I'd also appreciate a statement from SOE on how they see the class being played and our position in the hierarchy. If there are problems it would also be good if they could tell us how to interpret the comment made yesterday in locking a thread that "they are listening" (is this the interpretation of "listening" that Tony Blair recently used - that is listen and ignore because I know better, or an indication that something is wrong and will be fixed). I ask this because I know the testing threads warning of this outcome were huge.

If SOE recognise that there are unforeseen (or even foreseen) problems that will be addressed then please say so quickly before all the goodwill covering the launch etc is lost for that segment of the population that is proud to call itself Ranger.

Arcos - Ranger of Crushbone (ex Innothule)

Message Edited by Dessellion on 02-22-200610:08 AM

dont be.. i just spent a couple of enjoyable hours doing stuff.. its not a gimped as the posts on here make it out to be.. just had to adapt.I did work out that defensive stance is best for solo now as it reduces the amount of damage we take alot cos its alot longer for us to kill.but its not as bad as pre LU13 .. bout half way between the extremes.

I didn't think it'd be that bad for rangers. As a Templar, I know what it means to be humbled after a big update. But soon, you learn you can do the job just as well. It just doesn't require a mindless strategy anymore.

Take for instance the Templar pre DoF. In an xp group anywhere close to 50, I cast a couple of spells and just meleed or just sat back and daydreamed. Post-DoF I had to actually think a bit while playing my character. My Wizard alt, just to compete with Rangers in xp groups had to constantly be on his toes and thinking of ways to maximize dps over multiple fights.

It's nice to see a Ranger out there on the first day post-update that can still get the job done and isn't so concerned with class changes that, from my perspective, don't scream HUGE nerf to me. More like a fix to bring them in balance with other dpsers and to make the system make sense. I mean, come on, melee weapon procs proccing on ranged shots? Might as well ask for my Templar to proc his prismatic on ranged smites hehe.

Were rangers even using their defensive stance while soloing in the past?

I know I'm going to get several, "You don't know anything because you don't play a ranger!" posts for responding like this. As a Templar, I did know what the other priests were complaining about before our big nerf. And after it happened and adapting a bit, I found I could do my job just as well. It just required a different way of thinking.

I'm guessing this different way of thinking for rangers is going to be they'll be more successful with an encounter if they mix their very good ranged ability with their average melee ability. That's just a guess though.

Have fun flaming me!

I cant speak for other rangers, but I have always made a habit of switching from offensive to defensive during fights whenever a mob would come into melee range. So to answer your question, yes, at least one ranger did use a defensive stance...

UK here also, and I managed a hour last night.Well basically here are the key points as I see them:1. KoS mobs hit hard as hell and have a ton of HPs2. Our hardest hitting bow attacks except sniper shot arnt making a dent in their HPs.3. Without the stun/snare potion going off.after the initial attack with the bow, we're left using melee skills.4. Our melee skills are crap, and rangers want to use their bow.5. We're still totally reliant on posions for damage.6. DPS is very poor and imho is only going to get worse the higher level we get.Overall impressions:It's no fun. For me this is the main point, I have a fabled lvl 60 ranger with all adept3's and 8 masters. I'm sorry but I should be able to lay down some damm serious damage with my guy. This simply isnt the case, he feels SO lightweight and weak. Before I got the impression that when bow shots hit the mob they were really doing damage, now I just feel like my shots are weak and pointless.
