View Full Version : My thoughts so far...

Ok, heres the deal.  I quit playing back about um...December.  I heard KoS was coming back and by continuing to read the boards i heard the devastating news of the ranger nerfage.  So of course, I assumed the worst like any normal paranoid individual.  Coming from a person who mainly solo's, these are my thoughts so far.  Note, i'm level 58, and my gear is about average to small raid capable.  I do have the CMC, and the standard normalities.   Also note, this is not a post about dps, this is a post about the "feeling" of the game with these changes from a fresh stand point. Overall, I'd have to say I'm not as [Removed for Content] as I expected to be with all the doom and gloom that came about in here.  However, from a soloist standpoint, there is much more improvement needed.  Being that the basis of a ranger, in this game situation, is ranged combat, and the majority, 80%+ of our skills require us to use ranged weapons, I find it somewhat, unfair that i'm almost being forced to resorting to fighting like an assassin just to be able to solo.  I do not have the melee skills they do, nor do I want them, I'm a ranger.  That being said, here is my fix for this:Certain skills, in reality/theory would require a bit more concentration than most others.  Is it unreasonable to assume that a skilled combat archer would be able to fire off single shot, or even rarely double shot skills while running, or moving?  I could understand things like a triple shot, or a massive hit requiring patience and a steady aim, but things like a "leg shot" just don't seem impossible to me.  Easy way to balance this out, give rangers the same type of concentration spell casters have.  Allow for a chance of interruption when being hit.  Obviously, if the guy hittin me, hits my bow, then it might not land properly.  Thats not to say that I can't recoup from such an attack, just that every now and then I might not be able to. As far as procs are concerned, I believe that the multiple "fixes" for your "bug"(which should've been labeled 'unintended results') are a bit overlapping and supsequently harsh.  Its understandable to make the proc rates based off casting time.  I can accept that, but to top it with CA's only allowing for a single chance to proc off multiple hit CA's is unlogical.  If i have arrows, and i have poison, you can bet your bottom dollar that I will have poison on every single one of those arrows.   Your fix for this was too quick and not well thought out.  However, you want to fix this and still maintain some simblance of balance, here is a fix for it:Allow procs to happen from every single hit off a CA.  In the case of "ranged" ca's which require expendables to use in the first place, make specialty poisons for them.  Kendrik's Bolt Poison or some such non-sense.  Same applies to Hail of Steel for Swashies.  Logically, having to apply poison to EACH consumable would of course consume some small bit of the poison.  Whereas theres 200 procs per poison vial, why not make it work for 400 arrows instead?  Each arrow fired would consume one of these procs.  Each Proc would hold with it a % chance of going off on ANY amount of arrow used.  If a CA uses three arrows, then by all means allow for 3 procs removed.  I'd be more than willing to sacrifice consumable poisons in such a manner when other classes wouldn't for melee skills JUST to have the ability to proc off every hit. The solo content of rangers is thought out well enough.  Obviously if an enemy gets within a certain melee range, i'm not going to be worried about using my bow stances, so i'd switch to melee ones, defensive considering my MAIN OBJECTIVE IS RANGED COMBAT.  Its not a bad thing, requires a bit more skill to play the class that way.  However, having the inability to fire my bow if necessary while moving, or to fire it when something gets right in my face makes it pointless to be a ranger, when I can go roll an assassin and have the same chance to kill, but with skills meant to for close combat.   I know you guys are thinking through this very very carefully, and these are my thoughts on it.  Your rangers here do not mind helping you, not one single bit, but after all that has happened in the last few patches, they're starting to feel alienated again, much like it was back in LU13.  Even if were still not back to those levels of suckage, we are quite fearful it may happen again.  So forgive us our paranoia, and take our suggestions into consideration very seriously.<div></div>
