<div>I recently fought a conjurer and it totally took me by surprise. I need some help with strategy!</div><div> </div><div>At the beginning of the fight, I did the usual and stealthed behind the enemy. I was in defensive mode and planned to hit the conjurer with a quick backstab followed by a cheapshot, then to use the remaining melee arts on the conjurer. I couldn't use range arts because you get a range warning if you go too far away in a pvp duel.</div><div> </div><div>What happened next took me by complete surprise, when the duel started my stealth instantly dropped, and that took me so off guard I had panicked. I tried to hit him but he stunned me and started nuking the heck out of me and his tank pet was doing some significant damage too. Still I got a poison proc off him then he started using the life transfer powers, and those always lag my machine so for the next couple of seconds I was totally lagging and unable to do anything. Once those were over the lag was solved so I was able to attack again but by now I had lost most of my health and could not recover. I lost the duel with him at 1/2 health. I only had a chance to get each melee attack off once, maybe twice for some. I was using high quality treasured gear (orc ringlord stuff) and HQ dual wields, and a decent t5 treasured bow. I was in defensive stance, and I was using a handcrafted T5 poison (the high damage front up, non-legendary).</div><div> </div><div>Would I have won with better gear? I can't really afford to upgrade much, but I could possibly buy a couple of legendary items if I really had to (I'd rather wait for T7 stuff though). What I would really like to know is if anyone knows:</div><div> </div><div>a) WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED TO MY STEALTH at the beginning of the fight?</div><div>and</div><div>b) What is the best strategy for killing a conjurer, seeing as we can't leave the very small combat radius for duelling?</div>

<div></div><p>Stealth always drops at the beginning of a duel for me. I am assuming this is done to prevent us from having an unfair advantage. For duels, you will need to adjust your strategy. Next time, you won't be surprised which will help tremendously. It caught me by surprise in my first duel also.</p><p>Fredethel</p>

But each to his own, Go adventuring in groups a lot, if invited to a raid always join. Plan on getting some decent imbued cobalt chainmail armor for my character, good stats+miti. Rings I am holding off on till after lu20, same with adept3s. That just leaves a cobalt imbued leafblade, and a 2nd dw weapon (preferably hq related (legendary).</font></div><div><font color="#cc0000"></font> </div><div><font color="#cc0000">The arrows you use are important (or were I havent been around for a while). Make sure you watch to see if you are not doing normal damage to a mob, if you aren't try using rounded, or blunted arrows. Or hunting arrows (slash). Oft times some raid/named mobs are immune to normal arrows, and weapons, in these instances you need legendary weapons/bows/gear to make a difference dps wise in your raid and/or group. Solo it makes a big difference. For dueling/raiding, be prepared to have multiple sets of items to adjust miti vs. cold, heat, etc. Watch what your opponent is doing the most daamge with, and get a rare potion of vs. miti for your tier.</font></div><div><font color="#cc0000"></font> </div><div><font color="#cc0000"> Tbh there isn't much good t6 ranger loot from what I've heard. <div></div><div>Stun poisons FTW! I have never lost a duel when I was using stun poisons. I usually spam cheap shot at the beginning. If I stun him, triple and the precise if they do not die from triple. Most everyone but tanks will die from triple. Triple will also proc stun again (most of the time) so they are chained stunned. Stun poisons are almost cheating it makes it so easy.</div><div> </div><div>Elbryan60 Ranger</div>

<div></div>Dont melee in a duel, use your bow, that's what makes us good.  and you don't have to be WAY far away to use a bow.  at the start, instantly cheap shot him, take 2 steps back and fire off your triple arrow series.  If that dont kill him right away, follow with your precise shot/ double shot series.  That should finish him off.  That's what i ususally do.  Works every time.

Don't use stun poisons.. we don't need them. Besides, it is not worth it listening to everyone whine if you do use them (even if other classes can stun-lock people to death), and the feel of having won that way is a let down.Judging from your gear, you are not high enough to use the tactic I favor for summoners (which is thorny trap to root/snare the pet, kill the caster), so I would suggest using cheapshot on the pet and kill the caster. The casters are not tough at all, their pets are much worse. You should be able to kill one within the stun duration, and if not, make sure you did not use your mobile ranged attacks so if stun does wear off you can run and still attack.Last thing.. don't get to used to how things are now.. everything changes in a few more days <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" />Merkades, 60th Ranger.Siege, Najena.

<div>As a recovering conjuror :smileyvery-happy: turned ranger always go for the caster and ignore the pet.  If the Conjuror dies so does the pet.</div><div> </div><div>I once fought a conjuror who was a lvl or 2 higher than I was and cleaned his clock with Triple shot and one other CA (cant remember its name off the bat).  To be honest I didnt see his pet at all I just locked on him and fired.  He got hit by all 3 arrows from triple shot and 2 more arrows from offensive stance and their poison proc's.</div><div> </div><div>His comment to me was</div><div>"[expletive haxx0red by Raijinn]? how did you do that I have never died so fast"</div><div>I told him what happened and he said "I'll never duel a ranger again"</div>

<div></div>Sigh. . .  I know, but I almost never duel only did it twice once on my conjuror and once with my ranger as I mentioned above.  We can keep hoping that they may actually test what they did themselves before making it go live but then we can also hope that a cure is found for the common cold.

<div></div><div>you dont need stun poisons to beat a conj JEEZFirst put on focus fire and brutal instinct, try to invis before the duel starts in 2 secondsNo use in startign off with cheap shot anymore, lasts to short.click tripple shot like your ahving a sezuire and as soona s duel starts you hit him with a tripple shot before he even gets to target you.If that ddoesent kill him throw down a quick precise shot, low cast time. and that should do it.If hes not dead by then...your probably dead yourselfBTW dont stun/snare the pet unless you ahve downs syndrome, if you let the conj cast, if hes good he will throw of a stun root or stifle off the bat and you will die</div><p>Message Edited by TrigunVash on <span class="date_text">02-17-2006</span><span class="time_text">12:51 PM</span></p>
