I had an (cough) interesting experience the other day, I was in a group in RE and the tank (who made it clear that he has a ranger) kept making wise cracks on how I was doing my job.  I belive a pulled some hate once, though he kept cycling through the mobs but other than that I do what I normally do,  lay down some ranged attack then come in for some melee (and usually do a crapload of damage).  Then at one point, we were in a real close quarter area and I used only melee attacks and he says " I know rangers use bows sometimes, I must be mistaken".   At that point I bailed, as my philosiphy is not to argue, I can always get another party.  I would have been more than happy to accomodate him if he had just asked, but I can do without the smart-[expletive haxx0red by Raijinn] remarks. My question is are we only supposed to use a bow?   I mostly solo, but I've never gotten a complaint or been told to when I've grouped.Sometimes you just can't if your in a rea that close quarters with mobs and walls.  I can't believe we are given all these melee skills and we aren't supposed to use them.<div></div>

<div>It really depends on your level and situation.  At T6, in groups and raids I only use my melee CAs while waiting for my ranged CAs to refresh.  But, at lower levels many of our melee CAs do more damage than some of the ranged.  And, if you are soloing, you will have to use your melee skills.</div><div> </div><div>As we progress up in levels, the gap between melee and ranged DPS widens significantly.  But it's hard assesing your situation without know what level you are.</div><div> </div><div> </div>

<div>Then you probably did the right thing by leaving the group.  You are in enough demand that you shouldn't have to take verbal abuse from someone in any group.  Just go find another group.  Better yet, group with guildies (if you're in a guild).  And yes, At 38 you still have to mix it up a bit (ranged/melee) to maximize your damage potential.</div>

<div>Ya, at 38 you'll be doing melee quite a bit still, (pending on the situation) but at 60 dont let us catching you use melee if you have ranged CA's up. Or you'll go to ranger jail :0)</div><div> </div><div>Leoric</div><div>Level 60 ranger</div>

In raids I joust in every other time (once a minute roughly) to fire off Longshank/Dire Blade, then the other low-damage melee arts, then Elude. Only takes a few seconds. Soon as I run out, I use Improved Surveil then I can usually fire Stream of Arrows and let it run 25 secs because I've got my hate way down.

<div></div><p>Well, we are not supposed to use anything. You can use your fists IF you want. Of course, that woudnt be too efficient would it?</p><p>Its a playstyle question, some ppl like to use more melee and melee CA:s than other. Do they suffer in DPS? Dunno, might be... but who cares? I think the main reason here is to play as YOU like (if the other dont like it, iths their problem, not yours.</p><p>++Xan</p>
