View Full Version : Two-handers for Rangers

Stylistically are there any other rangers that would love to take a few bow shots at a mob and then when they closed to range you sling your bow and pull out a nice big helluva two handed sword or big freaking club or a stave and take a few last big wacks to beat them down ?

I have never been a big fan of the dual wield scout image, and with the push to be able to make your characters more individualistic, I would love to see this class of weapons open up to us. Some will prefer and stay with dual wield and say leather armopr , but me, load on the heaviest chain you can, grab yer bow and [Removed for Content] and a half sword, and go start a war.

In old EQ1 there was a ranger only 2 hander, swarmcaller, proc'd a slow, then you would often, fer simplicity swap with a higher damage two-hander, was a great utility for us solo or in group situations, and a style that i learned to love.

Not looking to do more damage, not looking to steal other class's weapons, just something fer us to debate, use at times, have fun

Hm, first off for the refference you made ot eq1, we were also able to kick, [Removed for Content] is with the no kick lol, anyways as well as for eq1 rangers were also 1/3 warrior, they even had taunt lol, but this game rangers are full scout so i highly doubt you will get far with the eq1 thing.

As for armor i use legendary chain anyways, i dont care about my stats really, fabled armor will increase it, so will imbued items so will legendary jewelry, i think if you wanna play yer char play your char, not whats best for your char.

EDIT: oh and as for the 2 handed weapons, hmmm id halfto think about it, i didnt like my shadowknight with 2 handed weapons a whole lot, but yeah they r nice... OH and my guild did silent city raid tonight, and there was this bad [Removed for Content] dual wielder that dropped, had 70hp and 60 power on it with like a nice 45 or so damage rating, was oh so sweet

Message Edited by Gnome mercy on 02-03-200610:25 PM

Even though I am a dual weild fan myself, I liked having a few 2handers in EQLive, always helpful for mobs that have DSs or when tanking (less ripostes) when needed. Great for jousting if you did not want to kite in PvP. And simple variety.Merkades, 60th Ranger.Siege, Najena.

At 43 I can tell you I DO carry large swords. But they are 1h. Sword of Thunder got me through my twenties/thirties (ghoulsbane sucked), at 43 I havent found a good 1h weapon (other then my bow of course). So presently I am carrying an ebon imbued leafblade, and using PGT until I can get SSOY.

I do prefer 1h swords though, shame their is a lack of good war swords for rangers 1handed past 30 (ghoulsbane sucks).

I think the only 2h weapon a scout can use is the spoon that Cazel drops in cazel's mesa.2h blunt weapon. looks like a giant spoon.

I'm also a fan of dual wield only (on the melee side I've never done anything else) but maybe the OP is right, if someone wants to change their style, this might be a viable option. As for soloing, this would be purely a preference, as with the major bow CAs one can solo in concert with dual wield weapons pretty well. Just my opinion. :robothappy:

Until the last update I was able to weild my 2 handed Bone Bladed Claymore. But this was obviously a bug, since wizards and conjurors in our guild could weild theirs, as well. When I looked yesterday it was appropriately red and unweildable.
