View Full Version : Got LU19 quickly before work - why is my taskbar mostly grey?!

In Europe we get LU's later than the US on out US based server.  Racism aside, I only had time to just grab the update before I left for work and I noticed that half my taskbar seems to be grey.  What the hell else have the done to us?!?<div></div>

When they removed the sub professions, they revamped the spell lines level 1-20.  When you logon for the first time after the patch the game updates your knowledge to reflect the new revamped spells.  Just go through your hotbars and remove them since they are level 1-20 spells.  After that you will be good to go.<div></div>

But I quickly sorted my knowledge book by level and some of the CAs on page 6 (newest ones) were also grey?!<div></div>

They should just make one GIANT hotkey.  It becomes whatever skill you should be using at the same.  Just press it and it changes to the next skill. The hotkey also increases in size every second that you do not press it.  The screen starts flashing red after 5 seconds to alert you that you are not doing anything. You would also not need to autoattack.  Mobs just start being damaged whenever engaged to simulate being damaged by autoattacks.<div></div>

Personally I think you should be able to use EVERY skill EVERY time.  But if you are too far, not in stealth or whatever... cast time goes and the skill/spell fizzles.  THAT would actually reward a player for being knowledgable about the class and its abilities, instead of having a UI crutch.<div></div>

Keep up the good fight Fennir. You are and have always been a Brother-In-Arms. Don't let them get you down.I actually kinda welcome the across-the-board nerfs. It will let us get back to being the Rangers we are known for instead of having the fair-weather rangers take over.

<div></div><p><passes out Kleenex></p><p>Maybe the UI options are configurable - it may be that you can disable those features that make it 'too easy.'</p><p>But if you're thinking the UI is making your game too easy, you obviously assume you don't "need" those features to play your toon. Right? So really, what difference does it make to you if the buttons are purple or pink or blue or whatever? You know when you're stealthed, flanking, too far / too close, etc - so you don't NEED those features, and I'm not sure why you'd mind that they're there. If it's concern that they're helping someone else understand the mechanics better... that's kinda silly. Why care about someone else's ease of play, WRT the UI at least? I can understand the GAME itself, like Shader said - death is kinda trivial right now and I wish it was more of a challenge, for example - but complaining b/c the UI options might help someone else understand the game? How odd. <img src="/smilies/69934afc394145350659cd7add244ca9.gif" border="0" alt="SMILEY" /></p>

<div></div> Although  I agree that there are many thing in the game that have been made a bit too easy, greyed out spells that can't be used because you aren't stealthed or in range isn't  one of them...IMO.What cheeses me off is there were a couple of spells that I still use from time to time that were revamped/removed that were still on my hotbar.   So I'm right in the middle of a fight pressing them wondering why they didn't work..   They should have removed them entirely<div></div><p>Message Edited by Bhobski on <span class="date_text">02-04-2006</span><span class="time_text">08:48 AM</span></p>

<div>If you want a real challenge disable the UI all together and just bind your abilities to hotkeys.  Then you won't see anything that will aid you in the game...like target health, your health, whether a CA can be used, etc...</div><div> </div><div>/sarcasm off</div>

We're complaining about things that will make new players better rangers from the ground up by helping them understand positioning and things like stealth? Why are we doing this again?<div></div>

There is nothing wrong with UI changes that assist players as a general rule, but I just think it's a better game when players have to actively seek out information about the current combat situation rather than have it handed to them on a platter.  If you try to use an AE when a mob is mezzed, you get burned for it.  But if you try and use a backstab skill when not behind the mob you don't really get punished, just an error mesage.  I think you should be accountable for both kinds of mistakes.<div></div>

I have posted maybe 5 posts here in 2 months? It is the whiners and the flamers is why I haven't participated more. You need an alchemist? Alfreya and Clarah have been friends of mine almost since I started a Ranger. I'm sure they would be willing to help you with poisons at a pretty fair cost. Tell them Narsan sent you.
