Hello fellow rangers,I am about to hit level 24 and I have no clue about what Master II spell I should choose. If I am not misstaken I think one of the veteran rewards gives you the possibility to reselect all the spells at a later time (level 60) so the selections I make now should not effect the end game. I know there are older topics about selecting Master II spells but I am afraid they are rather outdated (4-5 months old). Please motivate your choice(s)!Tindra SunriseLevel 14 Master IIShadow BladeBleedHunter's Instinct (selected)Impale
Level 24 Master IIWounding ArrowMakeshift ArrowsShadowflameShadow Lunge (selected)

Level 34 Master IIMiracle ShotPouncing AttackSalvage ArrowsCrippling Arrow

Level 44 Master IIHidden FireTriple FireBlazing ThrustLeg Shot
Level 54 Master IIBackup QuiverDire BladeFatal ReminderStealthy FireEdit 2: I hit lvl 24 and selected Shadow lunge.
Message Edited by Lito77 on 01-28-200603:38 AM

I went for shadow lunge this time. I went for shadow blade at 14, been using it succesfully for ten levels. 24 saw the upgrade to shadow lunge and the opportunity to go master II. Haven't checked the price for a master upgrade but I bet it's near the 1p mark.

Wounding arrow would have been nice too since I always open with that. However at first glance it seemed that SL would give more raw dps in use. And I plan to replace WA with the 29 dmg/snare skill that I can't remember the name of. Only 5 levels would be a bad use for a master II.

My first thought was to go Makeshift arrows because I just can't find any upgrades for that one at all. For no amount of gold, ever. But it wouldn't be to clever I decided. Arrows aren't all that expensive. The added arrows are nice, but you'll never keep up with your needed number of arrows anyway. Bit of waste to put an insufficient plug into a hole that you don't really care about. Maybe the upgrade to makeshift will have easier to find upgrades.

Shadowflame. I never use it. SL again appears to do far more raw dps. By the time I get all my arrow skill done and step in for the lunge, it mob is pretty much history. No need for extra massive dmg on another stealth skill you won't get to pull off.

Now, you have to understand that I am a total and utter gimboid when it comes to picking things like this. So you're probably better off doing exactly opposite from what I recommend

Don't discount your attacks that cause less damage but get used more often - they can raise your overall DPS more than upgrading the heavy hitters. That said, I'd go Wounding Arrow or Shadow Lunge at 24. Either way you're not going to make or break your toon, just go with whatever sounds good to you. Good luck

/Agree with Jay. At this level, any M2 is going to be a big help to you. Even the ones that aren't the "big hitters." Figure out which you use most and then make your decision. Personally, I wouldn't take the makeshift arrow. Rares at that level are cheap enough that you can just get the Adept3 upgrade if you must. At 60, I have most of my CA's at ad3 or higher. Backup quiver is not one of them. Even though a ruby on my server is still relatively cheap (35g or so), I don't need to upgrade it from adept 1 because I press that button EVERY 10 min when it becomes available. I have more than 4k of arrows on me at any time unless I am in a place where I am burning through arrows (raids or grinding groups). If that is the case, iron arrows are good and cheap too. You can get a stack for a couple of silver. That's me though.... push the button... never out of arrows. As you become less melee and more bow based, all your M2 choices should your involve your bow. But at this point, you still do a lot of melee, so no choice is a bad one here. Just ask yourself, "Which one do I use the most?" Good luck and enjoy.

At 34, I picked the debuffer ranged CA - crippling shot. You will become more bow-centric once you start and move through your 30s, so, definately pick a ranged CA and one that you will use often. Pouncing attack is melee so you don't want to M2 that one and why M2 salvage arrow, so you can get 10 more arrows create or whatever the benefit?

Miracle shot is nice but it will just increase the damage amount (if it increases range who cares, since you don't want to be too far away from the action and can't in dungeons) while M2'ing crippling shot will not only increase the damage amount but increase the debuff amount as well. Anyway just my two cents for what its worth.

Me:

14: Hunters Instinct (Still use as my constant buff with arrow frenzy)

24: Makeshift Arrows (Cause I was a [Removed for Content] and didnt realize salvage was going to be my next master, I did this and 34 the day LU13 came out)

34: Salvage Arrows (Best choice IMO, never ran out of arrows)

44: Triple Fire (If it hits every time, and with the procs, awesome, if the first shot misses, aweful, but I still use it all the time, so no complaints here)

54: Stealthy Fire (Given the other choices, kind of a duh thing here. It hits so hard its nuts)

I would like to replace Hunters Instinct with something more up to date, but I cant recall if theres another buff that does what it does. I mean, increase DPS by 38% or something like that, good night, thats awesome.

doesn't hunter's instinct get replaced by feral instinct? I can't find out how much agi and dps feral instinct does however.

I just started a ranger and am wondering what skills to take to master II also. Would be helpful if i knew of a site that listed the effects and magnitudes of all spells and when you get them.

Personally I am really attention deficit, and tend to forget to buy arrows, and having backup quiver master II, yeilding 65 arrows at a time, can sustain me short term. Just my 2cp.....but defintely take Stealthy Fire at 54.....One shotting mobs is the absolutey balls.

I took makeshift arrows, cause for one, you can keep up with your use, long as you click the skill as it pops and maintain a pack in inventory dedicated for spare makeshift arrows. I currently use a setup where I tend to harvest sometimes, and during those times I build up my arrow suply with makeshift feyiron arrows, holding roughly 2000 in inventory and 1500 in quiver ready to fire. Normal exp day I can buy 2000 arrows fast, but never faster then I can replace them once you have a supply ready and consistantly hit the skill. This will save a ton on arrows also early on. You do the math, free 65 per 10mins, or use iron or iron hunting arrows? By time your 60 you'll have spent well over a few plat if you buy arrows, or you'll spend nothing with makeshift minus the few slash arrows you may use for raids. Also I didn't go with backup quiver M2, instead went with Steathly fire, use it alot and its nearly 3k dmg for me solo and over 3k on raids, till i get snipers its a nice skill. I also didn't take any melee master 2's, frankly I hardly ever melee unless just really want to play around or I'm managing agro during early stages of long fights. Plus you burn power faster in melee then using ranged.Over all go with what ya wish or use more of, but I'd highly sujest getting makeshift arrows, its a bank saver.

Hello everyone,Thank you for all your valuable feedback. I was thinking of going with makeshift arrows when I hit lvl 24 but what I did instead was to upgrade it to Adept1. 35 arrows is so much better then 15. I am about to hit lvl 28 tonight and so far I haven't run out of arrows. Last night I also invested in a 10 slot quiver which I payed 24g for. Hopefully that wasen't to expensive I was getting tired of reloading and forgeting to reload before an attack.Next stop lvl 34. Talk to you then!Tindra Sunrise

On my server, you can pay 8-10g for a stonehide (T6 common) quiver that will net you either 14 or 16 slots, IIRC. Quivers are like bags; there's no level restrictions to use them, so you may as well just have one crafted for you after getting a T5 or T6 common pelt. Heck, just zone into a T5 or T6 zone and ask a 40-60 player to harvest one for you...
